So, hold on - you use this tool to open doors, flush toilets, press lift buttons, etc? And then wash it thoroughly between use, so as not to transfer toilet button germs to the door handles, lift buttons, handbag contents, etc? And everyone would definitely do that, right?

I think I'll just stick with using (and washing) my hands.

    • Well think of it as clothes.

If you get germs on your clothes you can still wash it and the germs will never touch your body so everybody could have germs on their clothes but not themselves and as long as the launder it everybody should be OK.

This is basically that but for your hand/finger.

Personally a little bit extra but if you have a sneaking suspicion that the surface you have to touch is not very clean then this is the next best option but then your pocket or pants will get the germs or virus etc but at least hopefully if used right not your own body.

It's all by separating your body from other points of contact and letting your shoes and clothes be the buffer and well now this new contraption.

Personally it looks uncomfortable to keep in your pocket and maybe socially awkward in some scenarios but we have learnt that safety and health is important and if it works it works.

      Best of luck to you.

Couldn't you just use a tissue?

        • Landfill.

Imagine how many tissues you would use compared to just one of this over a period of a year.

Initially it will seem like this is a waste but compared to alternatives like wet wipes or tissues as you say this is actually much much better over the long run unless you only plan to leave your house for one day this year.

Yeah this is about repetitive use over a long period of time.

Tissues are good in the meantime though if you have no other alternatives.

@AlienC: No worse, I'd imagine, than the water and chemicals taken to clean this thing between each use?

As you've said below, this is just a toy, and each to their own. I'll be sticking with using my hands though.

          • @AlienC: When it first broke out in China, they used toothpicks.

            Biodegradable, and cheap.

        • Couldn't you just use voice control?
          Door open. Door close.
          Tap open. Tap close.
Toilet flush. No, no, I just said flush.

          • @bargainparker: "Eleven!"

Nah, I'd get stuck somewhere and never get out.

            • @banana365: Elevator going to floor eleven eleven please stand clear.

          • +1

@bargainparker: I think you are on to something there but in public places it is gonna be weird telling the toilet to flush while the other guy is making a brick sandwich in the other cubicle.

Sometimes silence is golden when you are doing business on the throne haha lol that and how is the toilet meant to differentiate between a voice in one cubicle and another.. Some loud mouth might tell the whole line of toilets to flush lmao when someone is on the holy throne lol.. And whispering to a toilet I think won't help the situation either.. Funny idea though

Personally I wanna see some one telling a door to open or close maybe a good idea for a TV skit show.

              @AlienC:

Some loud mouth might tell the whole line of toilets to flush

Yeah, I'd probably do that. Be honest, who wouldn't be tempted? "Engage cold water bidet"

So this gets hooked onto ones keys and kept in ones pocket. Retrieved, sorted and held with a hand, used them put away with a hand. Then later on grab with the same hand, etc, etc, etc

      yeah, nah.

      • It would only make sense if it was copper.
most people are scared of a virus, not a bacteria, so it doesn't replicate outside the body; so it doesn't cover the whole tool.

But yeah, the tool will touch things. Should have been silver, or copper, or any one of the naturally biocidal metals, not cheap aluminium.

  • do we have to wash it after every use?

    • It depends its up to you but ideally yes.

It's like gloves or a mask just a buffer so if there is germs or a virus on it then if you wash it then the germs or virus will go away and you essentially get zero contact with potentially harmful surfaces.

Now, if only these were not cheap knock-offs and actually made of copper or one of its alloys such as brass, which have great antimicrobial properties.

Some of the older folks might remember when door knobs were mostly made of brass.

      Huge oversight.

      I agree.

    • Time to change our door knobs.

      • Just get rid of the door problem solved crisis averted.

        • +1

Just get doors like in Star Trek, but you need to make sure they have the whoosh noise.

  • +1

I’ve been looking for something like this but with the functionality of a car key where the bit that touches the door can be folded away so that it doesn’t touch the inside of your pants/handbag etc

    • Just buy allen keys then

    • +1

That is actually a genius idea.

Yeah it seems that they rushed this and missed a lot of use case scenarios.

Like not being able to open round knobs.

    • +1

Ideally, pulled in like a USB.

  • +1

Sorry, how do you turn a round door knob with these?

    • +1

Looks like you can't probably need another tool for that lol.

      Missed opportunity. Huge oversight.

      • What if i touch the tool accidently?

        • Then it's useless lol just a fun toy I guess.

Have to sanitise hands as you would normally if touching a compromised object or surface.

Yeah I personally think this device has good intentions but funny way of implementation and lots of oversights.

I'm not buying one because idgaf about dirty surfaces atm I just wash excessively as always right after or just gamble my life away cbb.

          To each their own.

          Best of luck to you.

    • +1

You keep on poking the person next to you with this tool until they open the door for you.

  • +5

What you need to do is point it a bystander and say "Would you kindly open the door for me, or I will have to resort to using THIS!"

    • Anything is a weapon if you are crazy enough

      • MacGyver probably

saw a bunch of kids trying to open a door with their teeth at school this morning…

    • Pics or it didn't nvm

My butler just uses white gloves. Seems to do the trick.

  • Great for not leaving finger prints 🕵🏽‍♂️

    • It's almost like this is targeted at a demographic of society that does not want to leave fingerprints.

Early last year I saw a short video of a guy pressing lift buttons with a loop of thick wire glued to the top of a disposable lighter. Press the button, light the flame for a a second or so to sterilise the wire and you're good to go. Maybe not as good for door handles, but cheap and effective.

    • I’ve been doing that for ages, except I wouldn’t call the wire I use thick and I “crimp” the wire instead of gluing it.

  • Can also be used as a Lock Ring

  • What a coincidence, I just saw this on a facebook video. How does facebook knows that I will come across this on ozbargain. creepy……..

  • And the 'Tool of the Year' award goes to…..
