The Makita 36v blower is a beast. The 18v in this redemption however not so much…

The Makita 36v blower is a beast.

I got my kid to sit on his bike and turned on the Makita blower behind him. Was good fun.

Yes, the 36V is a beast, the 18V is fine for blowing leaves off your deck or cleaning up after doing some woodworking…etc.

        I recorded it…

        • That's exactly what happened.

  • Is this mower best for Gorilla grass and value for money? Or which cordless is best in this range ?

    • +1

I have this exact mower. It's good for medium sized lawns. For bigger, you'd probably want something self-propelled.

I'd rather get this with the 3 x 5.0Ah than 2 x 6.0Ah. If you're on the Makita platform, then it's a really good deal because you can get skins like drills, impact drivers, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, blowers…etc. which all use the same batteries for really cheap.

Performance wise, it's probably similar to a ~$500-ish petrol mower. Definitely better than the cheap, nasty stuff and looks like it'll last a while. I love the fact that it's battery powered. no need to fill up jerry cans, buy oil, rip the cord to start. Not to mention it runs smooth as silk (no vibrations like petrol mowers), and all you smell as you mow is the fresh smell of grass, not exhaust fumes (which makes mowing the lawn much more pleasant IMO).

Overall I'm a huge fan of cordless garden tools. Petrol mowers aren't that bad, but I'll never use a petrol line trimmer, hedge trimmer, small chainsaw…etc. again. The battery powered ones are just so smooth and easier on your arms vs. the vibrations out of the petrol ones.

      • I tried an electric line trimmer recently. So quiet, vibration free. That was a weird and wonderful experience.

  • I wish toolswarehouse would have a sale on EGO tools, particularly the hedge trimmer and blower.

    • Is the EGO mower stronger than Makita? Is EGO better for Gorilla grass?

      • I'm not sure. I've got an EGO whipper snipper kit and love it. Would like to add some more EGO power tools

    • May not be what you’re after but TT have a good deal on their commercial blower in the 7.5ah backpack kit https://www.totaltools.com.au/159322-ego-7-5ah-56v-commercia…

Isn't this just RRP? Blower is via Makita redemption so you can get it from any authorised dealer

  • Why not pay the extra hundo for the 21" Victa Cordless?

    • How much extra is the Victa blower ?

      • Don't need one, need a decent Cordless battery mower

        • need a decent Cordless battery mower

EGO brushless then… (with the dual uplift blades)

  • Just go Ryobi 36v or the Brushless steal deck Ozito version, this is just too expensive. You're paying for the name mainly, obviously it's going to perform better than the cheaper options but I couldn't justify spending that much more

    • Obviously if you have Makita batteries it's the better choice but if you are starting from the Ryobi 36v range is great

    • +2

Strong disagree. Ryobi is somewhat okay, Ozito is just cheap stuff that's fine for something you'll use here and there.

My dad still has Makita tools that he bought in his 30s decades ago. I bought into Makita because they have the tools I want, but DeWalt, Milwaukee and Hitachi/Hikoki are the only other brands I'd ever go with.

You pay more, but they'll last forever and when you don't want them anymore, there's plenty of resale value. With Ozito or Ryobi, there's no real resale value. When you buy a mower to last you 10 years, don't cheap out.

Decades ago many things were made to much higher standards. And for actual tools some brands the premium can still be worth it, likewise the 5yr value from Ozito too. But mowers these days however is not something id be banking on 10yrs from especially an battery one. Im actually on the lookout for a new mower myself.

        • But mowers these days however is not something id be banking on 10yrs from especially an battery one.

Why though? Unlike petrol mowers, there's less to go wrong. DC brushless motors are super reliable.

          • @p1 ama: Battery systems. Ask anyone who has had an orphan battery system lol.

      • You pay more, but they'll last forever

Doubt the current models will last anywhere near as long.

      • But it's relative to what you pay.

The tech will be outdated in 10 years anyways. No Nicad Makita drills would perform like any of the new Ryobi lithium stuff

Edit: FYI Ryobi sells very good on Gumtree 😁

  • Yes this is RRP, same as Bunnings or totaltools (and they have the redemption too)
The only deal here is if they actually have stock, bunnings and totaltools near me are sold out, I got the last one 2 weeks ago.

It's a nice mower, the catcher works 5x better than my previous cheap petrol one, and for a suburban back yard it's perfect, plenty of power and the catcher and mulch function work very well.

But yeah, it's not for someone whom wants cheap, you buy this if you want to commit to Makita quality and ecosystem

My only gripes are, the kills-witch on handle's spring is too strong, If you have RSI like me it's painful and its only a bit lighter than a petrol one.

    • I agree, I'd like to 3d print a clip to hold it in the on position but in the meantime I use a bit of velcro attached to the handle
