Only $164 more? Is 5G going to make that much of a difference unless I'm watching 4k netflix on it?

      • 4k wouldn't look great on the S20FEs inferior screen anyway. You'd be getting the 5G model for it's Snapdragon processor, not because it's 5G.

    • +1

5g is pretty pointless right now, and who knows if it'll ever be useful?

Really, it's more of the battery life that matters on the s20fe.

      • Let be honest, 99% of S20FE 5G buyers are buying it for the snapdragon processor, not the 5G radio.

        • snapdragon processor

Yeah, if their 4G model use snapdragon I will buy 4G.

I think overseas 4G model are difference, right?

        • But aside from the extra battery efficiency, who cares?

Citra is already fine on both devices, and neither will be able to run ps2. We're way past the point the soc matters anymore. Maybe the race will matter again when we start trying to emulate ps3, but it won't be with either of these chips.

          • @Wonderfool: If you play PubG or COD or something, the extra processing power is useful.

To be honest, very few people need to processing power that the S phones offer at all. Most people would be totally fine with an A series phone.

But battery life has been a problem for a long time on the Exynos S devices. That makes the extra battery life pretty attractive.

  • Another 1 Android upgrade will drain your battery like no day and night.

Are there any Aussie stores selling just the S10 these days? My folks like the smaller form factor.

    • selling just the S10 these days

My wife also looking for smaller phone but S21 too expensive.

      • The market is so limited these days for sub 6 inch phones. I'm leaning towards Pixel 4a's for them

        • Yeah 4a 4G but so far very limited stock and no discount.

      • Look at the S10e got one for my wife recently
if she wants a smaller phone

        • I think no new available anymore.

        • Optus has some left. Just grab on OptusPay with a contract.

  • Was considering an upgrade from S10 to the current generation but honestly felt no need. My battery is still going strong, happy with the camera, the phone lasts a full day of moderate use, so I'll probably wait another year or maybe even two before I upgrade. Obviously don't have the + version but at the price I'd say it's a fantastic buy.

  • I like my Xiaomi Poco X3 but damn this is a tempting deal.

    • I'm spoilt by Mi9t. I like a change every year, it's earlier when the hardware is a big leap or screen size gets bigger -this seems like a side step.

  • Carrier version . Carrier firmware

    • +2

Probably just a Telstra splash screen at startup

  • +1

The best 4G phone you can buy at this price point

    • You'd want the 5G version of the S20 FE

      • This is overseas model and it said snapdragon on the spec and 8GB ram.

    • Others have mentioned that becextech provide poor customer service and high shipping fees. Plenty of examples.

  • Hey Denmec, Sorry i meant to send this one.

    https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/samgals20fe128gbsnapcla…

    Anyone bought from this site?

    • +1

would rather pay 50 dollars more and get it from Samsung Education Store Or, same price if you have the 50 dollar voucher

    • Hmmm I'm not sure if I'd trust becextech they seem to have quite a few customer service issues

  • Thanks OP got one to replace my aging Moto Z Play 1 that I got for $450

  • +1

I recently bought S10+ (refurbished-Excellent condition) from Kogan - 512GB White - $670 - Pretty happy. Got the android 11 update. My reason to buy was that I needed fast phone for daily use, water proof and oxy/heartbeat meter. My experience with Samsung flagships is at least 3 years with updates and good performance. Still have s8 for the mrs, its working great(S8 will remain on Android 9 unless you want to go any other rom). So at least 2 years with S10+ for me unless I loose it or break it.

  • How many more updates can we expect from this? One more year?

    • +1

It will get Android 11 and then, roughly, 12 months of security updates after that. But that's not a hard and fast rule. The S8 is still getting quarterly security updates, I believe, and it's official support period has expired.

  • Curious to know what the difference between carrier version and non-carrier version? Does it mean it won't work anywhere outside of Australia or is it just some Telstra app is installed onto the phone?

I did find this post detailing that it can slow down updates?
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2492395

    • Yep, carrier phone updates have to be approved by the carrier before they are pushed out which means you won't get updates as quickly. Sometimes there may be some bloat apps installed by the carrier too, but that's a lot less prevalent than it used to be. The only international limitations are the 3/4/5G frequencies (bands) that the device supports since the networks in difference countries sometimes use different frequencies.

      • Thank you so much! Did you know whether the carrier logo flashes on start up and shutdown that would drive me aboslutely crazy if it did.

        • I doubt it. My Telstra branded S9 doesn't show a telstra logo.

  • Wondering whether its worth moving from the pixel 4 to this? I miss my old S8's higher resolution screen and expandable memory. I'm not a fan of the S20FE (I don't debate its value), and one of the few who prefers the curved screens.

  • Does JB have instore click and collect?

There's no chance I'm using their super crap TOLL delivery ever again

    • +1

They do have click and collect, but it doesn't seem to be available on this product. The stock might be in a central warehouse or something. You might be able to persuade them to transport it to your local store for collection if you call the online sales team.

    Look up Exynos chipset reviews…

    • +2

It's still a fast processor. Way faster than 99% of users need. Just not quite as fast and energy efficient as the equivalent SD processor. It's a bit like saying, I won't buy a 70 series Landcruiser because it's V8 turbo diesel only has one turbo but the 200 series V8 turbo diesel has twin turbos. Therefore the 70 series is bad.

The fact is that it's still a very, very powerful processor and very few people will notice any difference, except maybe a few minutes of battery life. Just like the 70 series still goes hard, just not quite as hard as the 200.

Store pickup is available for this S10+ at any JB-HIFI stores ?

    • +1

Question literally got asked 2 comments above yours…

  • -3

worth only $499 in my opinion

    • +4

Unless you are the one selling it, then "it's a perfect condition phone. Does have little crack top right but doesn't affect the phone."

      $799 Ono

  • Ehhh, not sure if it's really worth it. That's solidly past used note10+/s20+ money and too close to a brand new s20fe 5g.

  • Not sure if this the place to post it but looked up other variants of the phone and found this Amazon and couldn't work why there is such a price difference between the two of them?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Samsung-SM-G975FZWAXSA-Smartphone-…
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Samsung-SM-G975FCWGXSA-Smartphone-…

    • What the… The cheaper one is 512gb too, what a bonus.

      • Ikr I'm trying to work what the catch is because there has to be one right…..?

    • The cheaper one seems like a reasonable price. The more expensive one is a massive rip off, unless it's the ceramic back version, but I don't think it is.

  • Carrier Version - so will it work on Vodafone NZ or Vodafone Fiji please ? THX

  • Build quality of this is better than Note 20 Ultra?

    • no

    • Notes tend to have the best build qty, even if its battery life sux like the Note 20 Ultra

  • Is this phone crippled when you place a non-Telstra sim into the phone? Can you access VoLTE?

  • I have a cracked S8 screen and don't want to replace the screen. Is this a worthy upgrade or is the lack of 120HZ and 5G a miss?
I don't play games but alot of movies and streaming/browsing.
    Any recommendation? Cheers.

    • +1

      120HZ and 5G

120Hz kills your battery and the S20Ultra and S21 dont last as long, vs S10+ Note 10 Plus

5G coverage is at around 5% maybe less. not worth it.. 4G is fast enough for everything out at the moment, I dont see 5G being useful for another 5-10 years.

I'll be using 4G for another 5 years before i change…. My phones on wifi 90% of the time anyways 4k video works fine for me on 4G not that i can see much of an upgrade form 1080p on a small phone screen.. its hard enough to see it on a 65" TV

      • Thanks for your advise. Do you mind me asking what you're currently using?
I might add I do have a SD card from the S8 that I would like to carry over, hence why I refuse any S21 series.

        • +1

Check out how much of a power hog 120Mhz is even with a 5000MA battery… the issue is that the GPU and CPU has to work harder to pump out the faster frames.

          • @vid_ghost: Thank you, appreciate the effort.
I think I might the bullet and purchase the s10+ this evening. Will definitely open it before 3 months! lol
Is there a simply way to transfer internal storage + numbers etc from the S8 to this S10?
Previous phone was an S3, so I'm a bit of an illiterate when it come to Mobile tech.

          • @vid_ghost: My s21 ultra has a lot more battery at the end of the day with 120hz max resolution than my S10+ did.

        • +1

"Do you mind me asking what you're currently using?"

I moved back to using a Moto Z play 1 .. its super old and showing its age but works fine for everything i need it to do. The battery life is also still amazing.. i did use a Galaxy S7 for a while but the screen cracked a tini bit on that and i kinda hated how small it was.. battery life also sucked… watching movies on the Moto Z play's 0.7" larger screen was also much better… i will take my time moving over to the Galaxy S10+.. no rush for me

I think phones are a waste of money for how much they cost so i dont really bother upgrading very often. I prefer spending my time watching shows and movies on my 65" OLED TV and using my 32" PC Monitors for everything else.

  • +1

My phones already been delivered… Ordered yesterday at lunch time and it came in today at lunch time :) it was $4.99 for normal post or $5.99 for express so i paid the extra $1 for express and wow.. that was the fastest i've ever received something from JB-hifi…

It will probably stay sitting in the box for the next 3 months as i dont need a phone right now haha.. Another OZ bargain deal got me again. i guess I'm now happy to wait a while for another Galaxy Note10 Plus deal to pop up

  • +1

Damn I think it's out of stock.

  • Damn I was about to sell my second hand one to a mate for $250 though it does have a minor crack on the back.

  • For those who ordered and looking for a case, I got this one and I highly rate it. Quality is good a slim fit. Reasonable price for a genuine Samsung.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07NBXPQ1V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_f…

  • Mine arrived today. Only 3% battery upon connection to charge. Wow, my battery may be doom.
I bought this case: Genuine SPIGEN La Manon Wallet Card Cover for Samsung Galaxy S10/Plus S10e Case

    • Mine was on 7%. Wasn't too happy about that… its old stock, mine was manufactured around November 2019.

      • Same here.. 5% battery on start up but its the charge and discharge cycles that kill it in the end.

    • Yeah, it's not great for a lithium battery to be sitting with low charge for long periods…

  • Battery lasts only 1 day, from fully charge, with light use, should I return it?

    • 1 day doesn't seem right at all with light use.

      • Battery was at 3% when first plugged in. I have turned off, GPS, NFC, and auto brightness features. Optimised all unnecessary apps to sleep when not in active.

    • I can get about 1day on moderate to heavy use. But I have only deep cycled the battery once since new to calibrate it. Since then I try to top up using wireless charging and keep it between 40p to 80percent.

  • any other places still selling S10 at a decent price? looks like there are none left anywhere
