[Refurbished] Google Chromecast Ultra $62 ($42 with Latitude Pay) + Free Delivery @ Kogan

70
FREESHIP

I don't require the remote control and standalone capabilities of the new Google TV Chromecast (I already have a Mi Box for that), and I want the option to use ethernet without having to purchase any additional adaptors. The Chromecast Ultra comes with a power+ethernet adaptor as standard.

They're factory refurbished direct imports, not new local stock.

Shipping is free with the coupon. Stack with $20 off $60 purchase through Latitude Pay

If you use Netflix might as well get the google tv one for $45 (after the Netflix voucher included)

I understand the value there, but the Google TV one does not come with an ethernet adaptor as standard. The Chromecast Ultra does.

Just took a look at the ethernet adapter, what a terrible design! The power/data cable to the Chromecast goes out the right side, and the ethernet plugs into the left. So on a powerboard you're losing the ability to plug in anything either side of it :(

        • I find I get one of those angled double adapters help be get around bulky adapters like this.

      • Speed tests on the Google TV dongle show the wifi (AC and above) is faster than the 100mbps ethernet anyway

    • the google tv one for $45

      $44

      • I like to round up ;)

Interesting proposition OP, but as you mentioned you already have the Xiaomi Mi Box, why do you need the Chromecast Ultra?

The Mi Box already has the Chromecast functionality built in and if you just want Ethernet, it's cheaper to purchase a USB Ethernet Adaptor or USB Dock (Ethernet + more USB Ports - Like this one) than it is to purchase a Chromecast just for the Ethernet. Plus with the adaptor/dock you retain the remote/Android TV function which in my opinion is way better than casting from a separate device.

I have a secondary TV in a different room. It is a dumb TV that is currently serviced by a Chromecast Gen1 from 2015. It's functional still, but it behaves erratically if you cast anything except a mirrored mobile device. I have a powerful router so I doubt it is a WiFi range/signal quality issue, but I want to eliminate that chance entirely.
I have already wired up all the important rooms in my house with ethernet ports in the walls, so this will let me utilise that. I will also take the Ultra with me when I travel, and the smaller profile both through physical size and not having to facilitate the remote and its batteries results in greater overall convenience.

The MiBox already has a USB Ethernet+Hub attached to it which works great, but that services the primary TV.

  • Thanks for notifying us on the FREESHIP code, OP, got the newer Chromecast w/ Google TV instead, stacked with LatitudePay $20 off.

    • Do you pay for netflix ?

  • "I don't require the remote control and standalone capabilities of the new Google TV"

You don't want them either. I used the google TV as a Chromecast device to play music from my phone on Sunday night. I was using my Bluetooth earphones [stored music via poweramp] with while shopping on Monday when an ad for Gillete broke through - it was YouTube on my phone deciding it was time I got another advert delivered…

This is the first time that has ever happened, and my worst suspicion from a year ago when I noticed that setting up my new Android phone automatically signed you into to all Google services including YouTube with no option to sign out other than rolling back to the factory version then disabling. :-(
