  • Are these good (response times) for PS5/XBX?
Or would a 144Hz be better?
If the later, you would need a hdmi 2.1 converter to DP?

    • +4

It will max out at 60hz. The ps5/xsx can do 120hz though the game range that can achieve this is currently very limited (COD BO Cold War can however).

      reddit user r/zuca32 said this:

"Personally if you’re considering buying a new monitor I think you’re better off waiting. Companies are definitely going to make HDMI 2.1 monitors now that it’s compatible with PS5 and XSX.
I think with an adapter it would remove key features like free sync. Also a straight wire is always going to be faster and more powerful than 2 different wires with an adapter. (Please correct me if I’m wrong on this) If a HDMI 2.1 to DP exists though and doesn’t lose any features and has the same speed then I would definitely buy it."

      • Thanks. I’m will wait for a deal on HDMI 2.1 monitor.

        • Be prepared to wait until at least the 3rd quarter or end of the year for a deal on one though.

    • +1

If you want to go for 4K/144Hz and you want to use PS5/XBsX, you need to make sure you get a monitor that supports HDMI 2.1 (and preferably VRR works on HDMI port).

It's unclear which VRR Sony will support (it could be forum VRR (basically the VRR that's defined in HDMI 2.1), it really depends on which one Sony TV uses). Future monitors will have the support needed (as monitor makers know there are people wanting to connect PS5/XBsX to a monitor). Another thing is HDR. Honestly, all HDR400 monitors are fake HDR. It's good that Microsoft will allow more control of AutoHDR in each game (rather than a global switch in the Settings).

A 4K/144Hz with HDMI 2.1 monitor obviously is better, but it is going to cost more. If you are aiming mostly for Sony exclusives, it's hard to tell whether those first party exclusives will support 4K/120Hz (maybe for online play / multiplayer, they might).

        • Bah, doesn't pivot. Any recommendations for one similar specs that does?

  • Got the QS on Wednesday and can't get it to work at 4k with a 1060. Have been using HDMI, may I need a displayport?

    • Mate I had this exact issue.

HDMI gave me 4k at 29Hz, changed to a display port cable and it's 4k @ 60Hz now.

      • I am running 4K@60Hz atm on hdmi, If you ever need to use hdmi I suggest you try another cable, as I find there’s a lot of variation in both the quality and standards-support in hdmi cables.

    • My original Display port cables wouldn't handle 4k at 60hz, I ended up getting 8k cables off Amazon, they do the trick.

      • OK but I always buy the cheapest cables I can find and I have never had a Displayport not work at 4K60 or 1080p240.

    • How do you like it? Would you recommend it for gaming on PS5/XBX?

      • +4

Don't know about gaming, but great for office work. Spreadsheets, coding, word, excel etc.
Delivery was also very quick, 4-5 days max.

    • +5

try to get them to give you the difference. See:
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/price-match-guarantee-anz/cp…

Do you by any chance have dell voucher? I'd buy it from you if you do. :)

      • +1

Thanks, I've emailed for the price match, I'll see what they say.

        • What email address?

      • +2

Thanks didn't know I can do this :) will try

      • Got my hopes up, but looking at the terms you can't also use a coupon with a price match, so the fact that "old price + coupon" was higher than "new price + coupon" doesn't work.

"You may use either a coupon or a price match on an item, but not both. Price matched items also cannot be combined with any member purchase program discounts you may be eligible for."

        • +4

I just got confirmation from Dell, I'm getting a refund for the ~$34 price difference :)

Everyone asking gaming performance on this, if you have ever played on a monitor with over 60hz refresh, you'll not enjoy this monitor. I bought the 27" 4k version last year and while 4k resolution looks spectacular, the 60hz refresh rate started giving me headaches, even in something like World of Warcraft. I switched to 1440p 144hz and it's a sweet spot for me now. 144hz 4K monitor is close to $1400 right now.

Unless you only play AAA titles where graphics are more important than refresh rate then this is not a bad option, noting that these days you can by 55" 4K TVs for few hundred more.

    • Is that why my Aldi 65" kills my eyes playing Warzone these days?

I'm considering buying a gaming monitor, I'm waiting for a PS5 too. I was hoping something I could use for gaming, but music production too.

      • I often wonder how going from 60in TV to a small monitor would go… I cant get my head around it being as good…. ?

        • You’re likely going to sit much closer to the monitor, so with the reduced viewing distance it should feel about the same size. Possibly bigger, depending on the monitor. It will also look sharper. Definitely a trade-off worth considering.

          • @Shenannigoat: The problem is FOV in console games is set for large TVs and you usually cannot adjust it.

          • @Shenannigoat: Currently I sit about 6-10 ft away from TV and dont have an issue except for sore eyes, but I think thats from concentrating focusing so hard.

        • I prefer to sit close to monitor rather than far from TV due to poor eye sight.

    • 27 inch 4K is mostly a cheap way to get into 4K. At 27 inch, you cannot see the 2K vs 4K difference that easily (other than texts). Also, most GPUs are not really capable of 100% 4K (shadows, effects are often rendered at lower res.).

However, as I also own both 27 inch 4K and 27 inch 2K high refresh rate, it is difficult to give a 100% objective opinion. The 2K high refresh rate costs more and deep down I do want to justify it over the 4K. Though I do agree 2K high refresh rate gaming is better than 4K/60Hz for PC, it is not a clear cut for consoles (mainly because so few of them support 120Hz). The other thing is UHD blu-ray playback.. though on PC, it is currently a big mess.

  • Just wondering if anyone has a spare Dell $30 coupon they could spare?

    • +1

I've got a $55 coupon if someone wants to go halves.

    • I have a $55 voucher if anyone wants to go halves

      • Do you still have the DELL $55 voucher available? Thanks!

  • +1

Can anyone say whether this supports 1:1 pixel mapping of lower resolutions?

In other words, if I feed it a 1440p signal, do I have the option of having a 2560x1440 'window' in the middle of the screen or will it always scale up to 4K?

    • You want part of the screen to show in 2K and part in 4K?

      • No, just a '2560x1440' pixel image (approx 21 inches diagonal) in the middle of the screen surrounded by black bars.

        Like this: https://i.imgur.com/ZTSbaUr.jpg

        • -2

Lol, maybe get a 32 inch piece of black cardboard and cut out rectangle in middle and stick it to a 24 inch monitor?

          • +1

@beanlanda: Nah, just considering my options for when my GPU can't handle games at 4K. I figure the options are as follows:

            • 1080p scaled up - Lowest res but divides evenly into 4K so shouldn't be any worse than native 1080p
            • 1440p scaled up - Higher res but does not scale evenly so more blurry than native 1440p
            • 1440p windowed/pixel mapped - Sharp but small

Never had a monitor this size before so not sure which I will prefer

            • +1

@Richocho: Nvidia Control Panel (if you enable GPU scaling) will allow you to do 1:1 scaling in the middle of the screen. However, I think you'll find that 1440p scaled up looks fine.

        • Can I ask why?

          • +1

@pharkurnell: Avoid artifacts caused by using a resolution that isn't native to the screen. The artifacts are usually a blurred image.

    • You can feed whatever resolution to the monitor but I guarantee that no monitor can fudge a non-native resolution properly.

The outcome will be losing the sharpness, making it blurry.

Why would you want to do that? You can always use the OS to scale up the UI.

      • Monitors can fudge 1080p to 4K pretty well as 4K is a direct multiple of 1080p.

    • +1

You need to check the manual. The 27 inch version (which is IPS so a different type of panel), 1:1 is not supported.

For 27 inch 4K, with the pixels being so small, you would prefer to use Windows Display Scaling. On the 27 inch model, if you insist on feeding in a 2K signal, the monitor will run in interpolation mode (which won't be as sharp as a 27 inch 2K @ 2K - it is full screen though). 32 inch, I can understand why you would want 1:1 (it will remain sharp and the pixels are larger than 27 inch 4K version).

In short, the 27 inch 4K version does NOT offer 1:1 mode. If you fed in a 2K signal, that monitor will display it as 2K but through interpolation. As for whether this one (32 inch) offers 1:1, you need someone who owns it to test it or check the manual to see if 1:1 is listed as an option in the monitor's Display menu.

  • This or the LG monitor currently on sale with Scorptec:

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/25plus-inch/747…

I don't really game much (usually simulation games and maybe Forza 7 or NBA 2K20).

  • +1

For office work should I buy this or a pair of 27” 2K screens…??? Keen for opinions please!

    • +2

Get a pair of 27's or a 38" if your company is footing the bill. IMO 4k is nice and sharp and all but using 4k at 32" without scaling has tiiiiny fonts and icons. Its legible but gets tiring fairly quickly, you'd need to scale it to 125% or 150% and at that point you get the same real estate as a 27" 1440p monitor.

  • Would this go alright for amateur (very amateur) photo editing?

    • same question here but for more advanced photo editing!! I previously had an imac 5K retina. Most gorgeous display ever. Then I bought a mac mini M1 because it just 5000% faster than my imac. I need a good 32" 4K monitor. Would this one be good enough?
      Thanks in advance guys

      • +3

Ahh if you're coming from a retina display….I wouldn't recommend a VA panel lol.

I have this monitor (coming from an IPS) and the colours don't pop as much as my old IPS did to be frank.

        • hey good to know. I recently bought a ViewSonic VX3276-2K-MHD which is an IPS panel (although QHD and not 4K) and I have to say I am not particularly impressed…. The screen looks washed and quite poor quality (despite me trying to adjust it). I heard many people say that dell monitors are usually the way to go

          • +1

@gg99: You are coming from a high end panel and seem to be looking at more entry-level oriented panels. You likely will find you need to spend $600+ to get something that is a similar level to what you are used to.

            • @witheredcouch: I could potentially spend a bit more (eg. about $600) for the right monitor. Could you please recommend a good one? I have a preference for 32" 4K. Thanks :)

          • +1

@gg99: ViewSonic budget class IPS monitors… yeah… my experience is the same. How can an IPS panel be so ordinary… I don't get why ViewSonic does this. It feels like ViewSonic use rejected IPS panels in their low cost monitors. My Dell one ended up being cheaper and better by a significant margin.

There is a ViewSonic 27 inch 2K IPS monitor I kinda want to give away, but the reason I don't want to is because the quality is subpar I really don't want my friends or relatives to have subpar IPS experience.

      • +1

This will be a very significant downgrade from the 5K iMac display.

      • At that level you'd be looking at the LG ultra fine monitors or DIY a 5k Mac screen for about $900

      • this is exactly what I've been hesitating for the last 3 months. I see all these deals here on ozbargain which is very, very tempting, and I was actually after an ultra wide that might have similar quality to iMac or LG 5k monitors on display at apple stores. There is NO EASY WAY to see these monitors in demos! To me, it's bit of a gamble as these monitors are not on display and there is no free returns.

So, is there no way to achieve similar quality to iMac or LG 4k/5k monitors at apple store without spending close to 2000?

        • +2

Nothing will look as good as the mac monitors, they're 5k and have a glossy finish which gives them extra clarity over antiglare screens.

Buy a naked panel: LM270QQ1 (same 5k glossy panel used in imacs), LM270QQ2 (used in LG ultrafine) ~$650
          Buy a driverboard: R9A18 ~ $300

You can either assemble in an old broken imac or make your own vesa frame.

          Viola! 5k monitor for cheap

I got Cashrewards on top of the LOVEKEANU discount when this was on special a couple of weeks back :)

    • Last time I used Cashrewards on a Dell S series monitor (late last year), Dell eventually rejected that claim.
Doesn't hurt to try, but unless Cashrewards indicate the monitor (range) is eligible, don't assume you will get the cashback.

      • The only option on CR (in app at least) is to click on the offer line for monitors; they dont make any distinctions for the monitor range except for classifying the Alienware monitors as part of Alienware on a cashback basis meaning 6% back instead of 3% for monitors.

I also tried today using the LOVEKEANU discount and CR tracked it within 30mins and its now showing up as pending approval; if they approve it then all good but if not, $450 bucks for a 32"4K monitor is still pretty good.

  • Ha, further discount (>35%) because less people would buy the VA panel?

Now hesitated to buy this one, or pay more for U2720Q.

    • +1

32“ ordinary VA vs 27” high quality and brighter IPS. If colour is important to you then you wouldn‘t have considered the 3221QS but if size is your concern then yeah, this S3221QS is quite a good buy.

Have you considered the S2721QS if you prefer IPS and don’t mind 27“?

      • Thanks, currently use 2x 22" as dual displays. And yes size is the major concern not color.

        Been thinking a ** minimum 27 4K ** as the main monitor and turn a 22" vertically.
Would be OK to S2721QS but have been advised to get a U27 because it's premium - not fully convinced yet if it deserves the extra $$ for my usage.

Now in level 2 Selective Mutism :)
        - should I pay a little more than S2721QS for this more fancy-looking curved 32", or even more for a U2720Q - the USB C connection won't bring the value very soon as my Surface Laptop 2 has only a Mini Display port.

        • +1

I think the U2720Q is too expensive for what it is. It doesn‘t offer a lot more than the S2721QS apart from the USB-C. Yes, it may have a higher build quality than the S2721QS, but IMO, doesn‘t worth ~$370 more (RRP). Keep in mind that the S2721QS is on special often, and can be had for under $360! I‘ve got mine for under $300 from the Black Friday deal. I find the S2721QS a nice monitor especially at such a low price. If it breaks, I‘ll just chuck it out!

For the price of U2720Q, I’d rather pay $300 more for the LG 32UN880-B or the BenQ EW3280U, both are IPS 4K 32“.

Now back to the S3221QS, I reckon it is a bargain at $452.76. The only thing that is holding me back getting one myself is the VA panel and it is curved but if it was an IPS then Dell would priced it a lot higher. The curve might take a little time to get used to especially if you have not had a curved monitor before. To me, curved monitors only make sense when they are bigger than 32“ or ultrawide, Dell probably make the S3221QS curved because of the VA panel, to minimise the poorer viewing angle limitation of VA. Their other IPS 32“ monitors are flat.

If size matters over viewing angles, brightness, colour accuracy then grab the S3221QS. The VA panel of the S3221QS is decent from what I read on OzB.

Does anyone about good deals on a 32inch 4k FLAT monitor? Been looking for a while and most of the deals are for curved displays, thanks

  • Can i use on a mac mini m1 via usb-c?

  • Just wondering if anyone has a spare Dell coupon they could spare to me? Thanks.

  • 10% with cashrewards. I am tempted.

    • Very tempting! To buy or not to buy?

  • If I have used dell coupon would CR still work? Dell coupon was spend $100+ get $40 off

    • It may not work but I would use the coupon instead of CR as the coupon is instant saving vs the need to wait for the sale to track then approve and even if you did not use the coupon, there is a chance the sale will not tracked.

Try use the coupon with CR as it wouldn‘t hurt to try. If it’s tracked then yay, if not then you won‘t lose much because the cashback is calculated after discount and excluding GST.

      • Will bring it down to $370 ish. Don't mind at all

    • How did you get the coupon?

  • +1

Of course, everyone loves a great product at a great price. But let me offer a different point of view. Don't be scrabbling around for discount coupons to save a few more bucks just yet. Instead, have a good, hard read of Dell Australia's returns policy. Make sure you've seen the product working, and know exactly what you're getting. Have a look at the reviews for Dell Australia on ProductReview; there's 514 one-star reviews, out of 603 total! Read a sampling of those reviews; after-sales service seems to be the main complaint. Check out all the previous Ozbargain threads about this product.

I bought one of these monitors two weeks ago, and I'm happy to report it has no serious electronic or mechanical flaws that I can think of. (Ok, the control buttons UI sucks.) No dead pixels, as far as I know. It was delivered promptly. And yet, I'm a bit disappointed. My 15-inch UHD Thinkpad has a beautiful, beautiful screen, but when hooked up to the Dell monitor… well, something gets lost along the way. It's a bit like the difference between a laser printed page vs. a really high quality dot matrix equivalent. When I get up close to the Dell pixels, they're just not as sharp as I was expecting. Text is a bit not-quite-right. Yes, the Dell screen is much larger than the Thinkpad's - which of course has an affect - but I think there's more to it.

Bottom line: do your research first. I'd strongly advise checking out an actual working unit before plonking down your cash. And really think hard about Dell Australia's reputation for after-sales service. There's some really angry people out there.

    • Does your Thinkpad have a glossy screen? As much as I hate seeing reflections on glossy screens I find screens with anti reflective coating such as the monitors from Dell cannot produce as sharp images especially text as glossy screens.

      • Both have matte finishes, so that shouldn't be a factor.
Interestingly, OzB looks worse than anything else I've seen. Fiddling with controls doesn't help much.

  • Well, I bit the bullet and ordered one. I really have to wonder whether it's going to be too big coming from a 24in screen. I guess that I'll find out in a few days or weeks. It'll be my first time with anything about 1080p screens.

More on this issue - if you bought this monitor for $487 couple of weeks ago, and now it's cheaper.
Try 30 days price guarantee (after purchase) at https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/price-match-guarantee-anz/cp…

I emailed them last Friday, got a reply today with a refund of $34 coming my way soon. Thanks to Juns for this idea :)

More feedback from me, while monitor is great and I enjoy it - colours, sharpness, curve all great, I can't keep thinking that blacks should be blacker, even for a VA panel.
If anyone knows proper calibration could you please post here.

  • I bought this monitor and it is working great except that my DELL latitude 5511 laptop (it has 4k support) display will not turn off after x minutes of inactivity. Had contacted DELL support team and after several fix attempts suggested by them, it had not resolved the issue. Was wondering if anyone who bought this monitor has the same issue?

    • Yea, it‘s not expired until 04/03/2021 perhaps they take the 10% Cashrewards cashback into account which reverted back to 3%.

  • purchased yesterday and now it's running on my desktop.

side by side with the IPS 3219Q. first thing I noticed is the black is actually dark grey compared to the other monitor. with the colour set to "STANADARD" this monitor looks a bit yellowish.

it also weights more than the IPS.

nothing to complaint for less than half price.

    • How’s the curve and viewing angle?
