  • One of the best Futurama seasons yet and looks/sounds awesome in HD. Good deal.

    • Except this is for DVD, not BD.

Except this is for DVD, not BD.

    • My apologies, had thought this was for a Blu-ray deal. Definitely worthwhile to invest in the BD edition if you have the equipment.

  • Only 13 episodes are listed there. Season 6 has 26 total I believe, so it might be volume 6, not season 6, as many animated shows are commonly released with season 1 & 2 combined as volume 1

I have only seen the first half. Hopefully with these episodes the writers have had a chance to get back into their groove (and by that I mean the sleep deprived desperation that seems to produce better work)

    • Missed that, good pickup - might be better to wait for both volumes in a boxset.

    • I think you will find that the (so called) missing episodes from season 6 are actually the 13 season 5 ones.

      • I think it got wierd with the production codes as technically the movies were season 5. But it does appear that the dvd's have now been released as 1-4 + movies + 5-6.

      • The first thirteen episodes of the season have been released on a box set called Futurama: Volume 5, on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. It was released in the United States and Canada, on December 21, 2010.[2] The remaining thirteen episodes will be available on a box set called Futurama: Volume 6, due for release in the United States and Canada on December 20, 2011.[3] Both volumes have all episodes ordered in production order as was the case with Volumes 1-4.

The numbering of Futurama seasons is a mess. The original run of the show (from 1999 to 2003) was created as four seasons, but was aired as five, so people are divided on how they should be counted. Then the DVD movies were edited into four episodes each when they aired on TV, and that is sometimes counted as a season. And now, every year we get 13 episodes which are sometimes counted as a single season per year, or as one half of a 26 episode season which lasts two years.

So, depending on who you ask, this set contains either Season 5 part 2, Season 6, Season 6 part 2, Season 7, or Season 8.

… It's a good thing you listed the actual episodes ;)

David X. Cohen stated that the first thirteen episodes (known as Season 6-A) aired during 2010 as the seventh broadcast season, and the remaining thirteen episodes (known as Season 6-B) aired during 2011 as the eighth broadcast season.

      That would make this 6B

Seasons 1-4 $12.78 each def buy.

Personally I wouldn't buy a R4 DVD as the audio is sped up by 4%. All of the voices sound ridiculous with the higher pitch. Stick with NTSC.

    • +1

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates PAL speedup. I'll never understand how anyone can stand hearing people sound like chipmunks.

      • Is it that noticeable? The only time I've ever picked it up was on my old skool Star Wars VHS tapes, where audio was often out of sync because of the issue. Why do we speedup anyway, just a quirk of PAL?

        oh nice bargain lol.

        • I don't understand why it affects video, because NTSC video is 30 fps, but the 4% PAL speedup affects all film/movies, because they are 24 fps, and PAL is 25 fps (or roughly 4% faster). So films that are put onto PAL DVDs are 4% shorter i.e. run 4% faster. With NTSC, they somehow manage to get around this issue and play at the normal speed. I don't know the technicalities, sorry.

  • And iTunes has this set as "Season 8" for 19.99 AUD. It's SD though. If you snag those discounted iTunes credit, works out even cheaper.
