Original Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Smart Watch Wristband Heart Rate Fitness OLED Global

it also supports multiple languages - so it has to be global (FYI, the Chinese version only supports Chinese and English)

Supports English, Spanish, Russian, Italian, French, German, Ukrainian, Polish, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish, Japanese, Arabic, Czech, Thai, Indonesian, Greek, Vietnamese, Romanian, Chinese and Dutch. The aforementioned languages will be launched successively.

    • +7

There are a few variants, a Chinese-only version that supports NFC, and the global variant that does not.

      • In China, the Mi Band 5 brings support for NFC and the XiaoAI voice assistant. The Russian variant of the Mi Band 5 launched with NFC, but the global model lacks this option. In fact, it lacks NFC, SpO2 tracking, and a voice assistant. (Source: Android Authority)
    • "They are not support NFC function." in the product description.

Why? I've worn my mi band 3 for the last 2.5yrs everyday.

  • are these too big for kids?

    • +6

It's a good size for kids - I bought one for my 6 year old daughter and it fitted her well.
She lost it a week later though… I don't think it was due to the fit. Most likely due to her personality ;)

      • +1

I find that the band comes open very easily with any kind of sideways knock or nudge. Mine has dropped off my wrist several times but luckily I noticed it. That's also how I broke my first unit - it hit the ground hard and the buzzer stopped working. My brother put a third-party band (from eBay) on his that doesn't have that issue - it's more like a regular watch band.

    • The actual watchface is about 45mm tall and nearly 20mm wide, so it may look a bit weird, but the band goes quite small. However it might not register their heart rate if it can't go tight enough.

    • I got one for my son (9 yo) 5-6 months ago. It looks fine. The strap is a bit annoying but he loves it.

      • thx, ill give it a go

  • Great! Got 2. Thanks OP!

  • +2

Good deal, but my Mi Band 4 still works well enough and the 5 isn't enough of an upgrade.

    • +4

According to reviews, you need to charge the 5 a lot more often than the 4. On the other hand, charging the 5 is a lot easier.

      • Yeap magnetic change cable on the 5 is great. Currently wearing the amazfit band 5 (mi band 5 with spO2 and Alexa) and being able to just snap on the charger aswell is excellent

      • +1

Im not sure about this. My partner now has the 5 and I have the four and she hasnt had to charge hers more often than my 4.

  • Thanks OP got one and hope it's a good purchase

    • +3

      hope it's a good purchase

definitely, got one 2 months ago. great device - lasts super long with battery life (im getting like 1 week of usage per charge) and strong vibrations for notifications for them Uber Eats free codes ;)

      • thanks for reminding me about those Uber Eats codes theyโ€™re expiring today ๐Ÿ˜‚

      • what free uber eats codes…

        • +2

oh no.. did you miss out ๐Ÿ˜ญ two weeks of free codes

          • @skido: damn…. anyways does this watch do NFC?

            • +1

@ozbargainerlife1: unfortunately not, the global version doesnt have nfc

              • @skido: hmm.. you happy with it?

                • +1

@ozbargainerlife1: ye bruh, been serving me well. I use it mainly for notifications and I dont have to always pickup the phone if theres something thats not too important. the fitness aspects also work well - tracking steps, heart rate monitor etc

overall a solid device and great value at this price

                  • +1

@skido: only buying because of your positive feedback!

                    • @ozbargainerlife1: 100% just worth it for the notifications alone. I lost mine in the surf last month. Been eager to get another one just didn't get up to it. Now I'm in, won't be wearing it in the surf though.

  • I have a 4 currently but I don't know whether I should go for the "hip" look and get a Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite instead of a band 5.

Does anyone have the watch? The only thing that bugs me is that the watch has 1/3rd of the battery life.

  • got it for $34.99, $5 off via the app

  • Iโ€™m looking for a watch that
    A) tells the time
    B) notifies me of calls, messages etc (including WhatsApp)
    C) can help control Spotify

Will this watch tick all these boxes for me?

Anything additional to this Iโ€™ll count as a bonus

    • +6

      A. yes
      B. yes
      C. yes

    • +2

Battery life on these little Mi Bands are also great.

My Mi Band 4 lasts a few days and i never really need to think about charging it

      • +2

Few days? Mine lasts a few weeks!

  • +5

Use this app, it's a bit fiddly to set up but I prefer it over sending my health data to Xiaomi.

    • Does it drain battery?

      • Yeah it uses some battery, depends on how often you have it set to sync your band.

  • I have been using my Mi Band 3 for ages… Is this worth the upgrade?

    • I too would like to know this, my mi band 3 still. Am curious if the battery life is as good as the mi band 3 as it has less features.

    • +2

You get a nicer screen and you can customize the display. It's a good upgrade.

Just give the 3 as a hand-me-down to the missus/kids/neighbor/colleague/postman/checkout chick/doctor/airport security/rubbish bin in that order.

      • Does NFC payment work in Australia? I know this one doesn't have it, but am curious whether it is worth paying more for the NFC version

        • You need to buy the specific NFC version AFAIK. That model is more pricey.

I solve that problem using Westpac Paywear. Basically a little chip that sits on my band. Very useful.

    • YES

  • +2

Does this work well with iOS/iPhones?

    • yes, I use it with iPhone and have had zero issues

    • Yes can control music and use the "find device" mode on the watch and it'll make a sound on your iPhone. Very neat feature if you can't find it but sure it's in the house.

  • still waiting for NFC to work in Australia, maybe Mi Banned 69

    • +3

      Do not ban 69.

      • it's illegal movement counting

    • Wait so the NFC version doesn't work with payment in Australia?

      • -1

        is this a sarcasm question?

  • These are very good for the price, however the software is meh and i've already had it lose connection with bluetooth on multiple occasions and only way to fix it is to turn off bluetooth on the phone the back on after which it syncs straight away (no it's not the phone as my galaxy buds etc never have an issue).

Again really great for the price but there are downsides, if fitbit was even double this price for an equivalent device i would definitely go back to fitbit (moved to this when my Alta died and i didnt want to spend $100+ on the new versions).

    • To sync the band with your phone, Bluetooth and GPS have to be on. To ensure that the band stays connected, Bluetooth alone needs to be switched on. If the Mi Fit app is installed and running (in the notification shade), you wouldn't need to manually connect in the event of a disconnection, so long as GPS and BT are on. It's not a pleasant experience especially since I only like to enable GPS when I'm navigating, but for less than $40 and all the features it offers, I can live with the inconveniences.
Alternatively, you could put the band in pairing mode and manually pair it to your phone. This I imagine will increase battery drain on both devices but may be too negligible to notice.

      • +1

Yep got all that, tried the manual pairing too but then it got more confused sometimes hahaha so removed that, i have bluetooth on all the time as i frequently connect my ear buds, unfortunately i can tell its a bug as it wont sync with the Mi App but as soon as i disable bluetooth and enable it .. syncs instantly .. bit annoying but not the end of the world for the price.. just pointing it out for those who are more sensitive to the quality of life stuff … for the price reseting bluetooth one or 2 times a week just to sync isn't a big deal

  • Honestly I prefer the miband 4, miband 5 has bigger screen but i wanted a nice watch face with my MiBand Tools app but the catalogue is much more limited than with miband 4. My perception is that the battery life is lower than the Miband 4 too.

    • Mi Band 4 gang ๐Ÿ‘Š

      • I miss mine, I lose it cause the strap for these Mibands are trash, does anyone have any suggestions for a better for secure fit band?

        • I must admit - I lost mine a few times. Once it was at the bottom of the gardening bin. It does feel like only a matter of time before I can't find it for good.

          • +1

@ajm07: Put some blu tack inside the band for grip.

        • Check out bands here (change 5 to 4 for mi band 4). I got a silver mesh one for mine, looks great.

  • Are there people who like wearing an actual watch who wears these bands too? Or are they mutually exclusive? :)

    • Have seen watch on one wrist, one of these on the other - but why bother?

      • so you can track your fitness and receive notifications while still getting to wear nice timepieces.

  • Is it to ugly use it everyday in the workplace? lol legitime asking

    • +2

Well if you work for gucci, YSL, Vogue magazine, perhaps it wouldn't quite fit in. I have an office job for a large multinational and wear a Miband 4 and when I'm infrequently in the office, haven't felt any negative perception of wearing one.

      • Cool. Got one. Thanks

  • +1

I lost mine in the first month, the band unlocks quite easily. It came off a few times accidentally before I lost it but it was a good product.

    • +1

Yep I agree with this. My band is usually catching on my son when im lifting him up and it unlocks. Still its just a minor thing.

      • Look at replacement/different watch bands from fasttech if you need a better band/strap.

        • Thank you for the store link. I now have a midnight blue band comming to replace my failing band. ~$2AUD delivered too!

  • -3

Man I would be all over this if I hadnt just realised committed in my brain to buying a more elaborate smart watch in the form of a Samsung Watch3. Just gotta find one at that $400 sweet spot.

  • Thanks OP, had this unit in the back of my mind for a while now. Nabbed 1.

  • +3

Or just skip this deal and wait for the Mi Band 6?

    • +1

looks like Mi band 6 is about to be released

  • Such a shame it can't be used for payments… Correct?

    • Not outside China I believe.

  • +2

Complaints about battery life are nonsense. Just charge it while you're having a shower.

    • eh I never take mine off even when swimming, it really doesn't need charging often anyway.

  • got one thanks

  • I have a four but am upgrading to an Amazfit Neo. https://www.amazon.com.au/Smartwatch-Real-Time-Monitoring-No...

I love the idea of a watch that does all the running tracking, last 4 weeks, looks great and can't ding me with notifications.

  • +1

    Does this have silent alarm?

    • How would a silent alarm wake you up?

If you mean does it vibrate, then yes.

  • This is just a mi band 4 renamed..

Still plagued with the same problems.

During workouts and fitness such as cycling heart rate could be 148 and the watch will detect 68.

This throws your calories off as the band uses time + heart rate as a calculation for calories lost.

This in turn makes you lose 30 calories instead of 300 calories.

  • Please, have a look at SoundPeats Watch on Amazon. Does pretty much the same thing, but with a bigger watchface for the oldies. It's a barebones smartwatch but has all the fitness tracking capabilities and heart-rate monitor and decent battery life. I'm not the biggest fan of the app though, and still questioning how much juice it uses on my phone. But watch functions for the most part without it.

Had a Mi Band once, but too small for messages and notifications.

  • How are the apps these days, including battery life on the phone? I stopped using my miband 4 as the partner app was draining my phone battery a significant amount.

  • Got one for my 14-year-old daughter on the last Amazon deal. She loves it. Ticks all the boxes and more when compared to the Garmin VivoSmart 4 or the FitBit Inspire.
The band will fit small wrists. We also purchased the Monuary extra 15 different colour bands for $16 - she changes them to match her mood/clothing.

  • Anyone use this with their Oneplus phones, any issues with it? I had a fitbit charge 4 which stopped working and said that since Oneplus wasn't on their supported list, they can't guarantee it works…
