Most will have themselves the rechargeable battery pack that can be swapped over to their new favourite controller when changing for many a reason. MADDDDDDDDNESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

      • +1

Madness that you can get rechargeable batteries for free from IKEA if you sign up to Ikea Family.

        • +3

Now I'm just moist. Stop it!

        • +1

Wot? Is it for new members? I've been a member for years. Can I get free batteries?

          • @BadGiraffe: New IKEA Family members get $10 voucher.

            • @Pricebeat: Need to get my family signed up. Wait… this is exactly what they want. They've played me.

    • +26

Means the controller will last as long as the electronics, not the built-in battery. Get a battery pack if you want.

      • Exactly. "built in" batteries are trash anyway, theyre always low mah (capacity).

Anyone who thinks built is better has obviously never used an xbox controller with rechargeables that actually last.

    • I'm curious what percentage of Ozbargainers have Eneloops in their home, and what percentage of those Eneloops are unutilised.

      • +2

I have only ever used eneloops for as far as I could remember. I don’t think I have bought disposable batteries (AA/AAA) in over 8 years apart from 9v batteries for smoke detectors.

    • +1

      ozbargainers have a lot envelope

    • +1

      Devices using rechargeable batteries? Madnesssssss

    • +8

You need to realize that built in non-user replaceable batteries are actually anti-consumer and contribute more to e-waste. In a lot of consumer electronics today what dictates how long a device is useful for is the lifespan of it's lithium battery.

Remember the days when mobile phone batteries were removable? Nobody complained about that.

    • +4

Just pure evil that I can put my existing rechargeable batteries in this device, and that when the battery has hit its end of life that I can change it without buying a new controller, OMG, just MADNESSssssss, why are they #1 being environmentally friendly, and #2 making life so easy? arghhhhhh I'm over it, O V E R it!

      • -7

I’ve used my PS4 DS4 since it’s launch and the battery is fine. If you want to use your controller for 40+ years you make a great point.

        • +1

A quick google search would show you extensive amounts of battery failure and hugely reduced battery capacity over a relatively short period of time of use on the DS4 controllers, with the only solution being to buy a whole new controller. Your single use case is not by any means the norm.

          • @ColstonAUS: I would love it if the controllers had the smarts to recharge rechargeable batteries in the controller rather than having to get the official battery pack to make it work like a PS controller.

As in… plug the cable in to recharge the controller and play at the same time, and never having to remove the rechargeable batteries until they die for good.

    • Why? I've got eneloops that I bought back in 2013.
They still last over a month in my xbox one controller.
I haven't even opened the 4 packets of eneloops pros I bought when Dick Smith was going out of business.

    • I remember reading that its due to a long standing deal Microsoft signed with duracell I believe, or whichever company has their batteries packaged with it. Which is why Nintendo and PS controllers are wireless standard, and you connect via USB to charge or use.

    • MADNESS that when you're playing PS5 and the battery runs out on your controller, you have to tether to your console like its 1985. Oh lets not forget the controller is garbage after a handful of years = again more tethering to the console like its 1985

  • +1

These connect too PC similarly to Xbox one controllers?

    • +1

Connect via Cable, Bluetooth or if you have the Xbox USB Wireless Dongle (some laptops have this built in, not many though)

Cheeky new feature which I'm loving is that you can fast sync switch between Xbox and Bluetooth by a quick double tap of the sync button.

      • No special with windows adapter.

      • If you have bluetooth, is there any reason why you might need the USB wireless dongle?

        • +1

Honestly bluetooth sucks, if you have multiple things connected at once it acts like you computer is under 100% load. FPS tanks and button presses become unresponsive. Many complaints about this online.

        • Bluetooth works with the controller.

        • I didn't actually know anything about the FPS drops - however my controller is connected to bluetooth via a dongle that has absolutely nothing else connected to it so maybe I'm not experiencing them as much. Switching between PC (bluetooth) and Xbox is flawless for me with the new function, just wish the Elite V2 had the same!

      • Wow this feature alone makes me want one.

      • On the double tap sync, does that mean I could switch between Xbox and my android for remote play or xcloud?

Thing that annoys me just having one controller around is always resynching between the two.

        • Sure does mate! Very much a quality of life feature

    • +1

you will need xbox wireless adaptor - for some reason blouetooth tanks your frames - think there is a windows bug

    • bluetooth sucks with these.
so much trouble, every 2nd reboot u have to repair and stuff, just a pain for $80
end up just using with cable to avoid the hassle

      • Re-sync what? I’ve had not had issues in over a year use (both normal Xbox model and this updated model)

If you’re talking about with the Series X (or possibly S?) then there is definitely an issue at the moment that no one is quite sure the cause off. For example if I turn my Wireless headset off first I have to do a hard console reset before my controller pairs again. This is obviously sucky but I “solved” the issue by making sure I switch my headset off first / now I have my console in energy saving mode.

Annoying I agree, but apparently a fix is on the way

        • i was referring to windows with these.
its a joke, i almost took it back but works ok with cable

          • @Nilfunds: Strange! I’ve been pretty lucky it seems though!

          • +1

@Nilfunds: I can confirm Ive been having weird issues with the Elite Pro 2 and the new X/S controllers with bluetooth. Random disconnects and weird frame rate drops. Recently ordered the dongle hoping that will stop these silly problems.

  • +1

Price is for red, blue, white and black controllers

Um… maybe too many people bought them, but Carbon Black is showing $89.

    White, red or blue….

    • You're right. Price changed on black controller. I'll update it.

      • Showing as 78 for me.

        • +1

Thanks. Updated. Amazon playing games with us.

          • @hotrod01: I see what you did there.

  • I purchased this last time with the Xbox Series x and got 25% off. Just wait for sale on Microsoft store.

  • Cheers, have been needing another controller to play some halo with my little brother :)

  • Can anyone recommend a battery charge pack thanks

  • Do these have drift issues?

    • No.

      • +1

Maybe not immediately, but willing to bet you'll be getting reports of drift issues in a year or two.

    • This is the very reason I was on the look out for a new controller. I tried the quick fix for the xbox one controller by removing the side plastic clip which didn't help.

    • Could be some sticky button issues though
      https://www.theloadout.com/xbox/series-wireless-controller-f…

  • I think i'd prefer the new controller, the D-PAD is better suited for emulation from what i've seen some people say

    • Can’t stand just how noisy and obnoxious this dpad is… let alone how it has a lot of resistance compared to the best dpads. In fact the whole controller is loud. Buttons sound rattling and loose. Only smooth quiet part is the triggers.

  • Bring on iOS 14.5 hahaha!

  • +3

I was going to buy one, then thought, I just use the one that came with the system, my friends can use previous gen. Sorry friends

  • +1

How do these compare to the Xbox One wireless controllers for Windows? Is there much improvement?

  • +1

Add a $1 item + Little Birdie voucher (if you still haven't used it) = $59 posted.

    • which item is $1?

  • Anyone who owns both this and dual sense care to comment on which they prefer?

    • +1

Xbox Series controller is way, waaaay better in all cases EXCEPT for one specific use case - playing PS5 games which have been optimised for Dualsense.
There is only one such game - Astro's Playroom.

  • is this the exact same controller from this deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/609192
not sure if there X/S , S/X means anything

    • Yes, same controllers. X/S or S/X is just to clarify it's for the new Xbox series S and series X consoles, though they're also backwards compatible with the Xbox One series.

      • cheers. thanks

  • I've also got a questions about using one of these with Windows.

Has anyone had a decent experience using one of these with Windows 10 ?

    • +1

I've used both this controller and my Elite V2 with Bluetooth/Xbox Wireless Dongle and Cable on Windows 10 quite a bit, haven't found any issues. Some comments above nothing that Bluetooth is causing FPS drops, I wasn't aware of this to be honest, but will test it out. But otherwise have no issue with the Wireless Dongle or Cable

      • Legend

    • +1

plenty of issues. gave up and just use with cable. got sick of repairing it

fps drops, yes, drifing, yes, cable - perfect

      • I think I’ll definitely go the cable

        • +1

i've got a Broadcom AC Wifi card with Bluetooth, like 80$ or something.
just saying as i dont think its my bluetooth adapter.

its ridiculous when you sitting in front of pc and the Xbox thing dont work.
have a bluetooth keyboard use daily with 0 issues.

so often you have to remove it from bluetooth devices and pair again for a gaming session, its a joke.

if you go bluetooth, while it works, closing Nvidia Experience program helps fps drops

    • I use Xbox Wireless Dongle and it works fine. Rarely it will take some time to sync. Otherwise it good

  • +1

Is there anywhere I can get the Wireless Dongle for cheap? My old one is broken and Bluetooth keeps on dropping out.

    • I’ve read in others comments (maybe different post) that the firmware update fixes this problem. Perhaps give it a try while waiting for a cheap dongle?

    • +1

I sent my 3 year old one back to Microsoft and they replaced it with the new smaller model when it stopped being recognised by my PC

    • Available at Amazon for $29 https://www.amazon.com.au/Xbox-One-Wireless-Adapter-Windows/…

Could get for $24 with the $5 CR cashback today.

  • Got mine from goodguys commercial for 72

  • Lol, everyone is roasting the number 1 comment from Seph

  • -2

What a ripoff!! Still uses same old tech from previous generation! Shouldn't cost more than $40…MAX!

    • +2

You do realise the specs aren’t the same, a few differences are,

      1. New wireless radio standard to work with phones including both iOS and Android
      2. Bluetooth Low Energy
      3. USB-C port so you can charge and play
      4. Updated D-Pad
      5. Dynamic Latency Input which matches your button-presses to frames on-screen to minimise any possible lag
