Keychron K6 Wireless RGB Mechanical Keyboard $69 + Delivery ($0 with mVIP/ Free C&C in NSW) @ Mwave

1660

This is the current cheapest price around for the aluminium version of this decent mechanical keyboard (RRP $109).

Review + Mod

Note:

  • This is not a hot-swappable version. I strongly recommend that you should get the aluminium version which is kinda more premium than the normal one at the same price.
  • Don't select "Mwave Transit Cover " to minimise the delivery cost.

Some other Keychron keyboards are currently on sale too:

Mod Note: Updated main URL to all Keychron K6, as the Aluminium Gateron Brown are out of stock.

Brown switch version is OOS. Red and Blue ones are still in stock

For those after Gateron Brown, an alternative would be BlitzWolf BW-KB1 which sells for similar price on eBay (Aus stock)

  • I have the K1 v4, the battery doesn't last more than 4days. Turning off the lightning or the keyboard main switch doesn't help much

I went through all of those and none of them have a numpad. What's the point of a keyboard without a numpad? Do people enter numbers with the number keys in the top row? Seems antiquated and slow right? I can't imagine using a spreadsheet without a numpad but maybe that's just me.

    • a lot of people are used to working from home using their laptop's keyboard… its more common than you think…

but i myself agree i cant live with numpads maybe for gaming…

    • You can have a look at K4, that one has numpad.

    • What's the point of a keypad if it's never used? Not everyone edits spreadsheets. Personally I'd never go back to a tenkey keyboard - they're awful ergonomically. A discrete keypad on the right of the mousepad is a better solution.

  • I have been considering getting a mech to replace my non-mech Logitech.

It's a shame that mwave don't stock any of the hot swappable versions of the Keychrons. I am not going to immediately replace switches or anything like that but liked the idea of not having to throw out the KB just because a few switches stopped working.

    • you can still replace them by desoldering them and soldering new ones in, it's just a bit harder.

      • Nah, I can't solder. I have tried to learn but have had zero success. Just a bit too clumsy.

I sold mine after waiting for ages for the key customizing software they promised before release. There is currently no ETA on it and last I heard the software team don't even know if they can get it working. There's a dedicated light switching button that can't be reprogrammed - ridiculous for smaller keyboards where key functionality needs to be maximized.

  • Damn, no deal on the K8. Had my eye on this one for a while…

  • Any deals on the K4?

  • Anyone know what country these are built in?
Keychron is registered in Hong Kong, but I'm guessing they probably manufacture in China…

edit: found it in the manual, Made in China.

The one thing I do not enjoy about my Keycron is that the compact layouts are non-standard and fairly radical.

This is a hybrid between a 60% and 75% layout, which chooses to include keys like arrow keys, page up/down and home, where you think they might be useful, but actually completely interfere with your muscle memory.

I often find myself still pressing up instead of shift and so on.

So whilst it does look awesome, and the keyboard is functionally great, give the layout some thought before you commit to one of the Keychron's.

Overall happy with the keyboard, but everything about the bottom right section annoys me to this day.

YMMV - I don't have any issues with the 1.75u r shift for typing.

Getting custom keycaps that support 1.75u r shift without breaking the bank, that's another issue entirely.

  • Considerably cheaper than aliexpress, but how?!

I ended up getting the optical brown TKL keyboard. I've been happy with my Motospeed with red switches after only having it a few months. I really didn't need to buy this Keychron, but I think it's my endgame when it comes to keyboards and the price was right.

I have too many keyboards. I have too many keyboards. I have too many keyboards.

    • Me too, but this is endgame type stuff (for me at least).

      • ive only ever used browns in my life. the only two options for $69 aluminium are gateron blue or LK optical blue… shrug its a sign

        • I just found out that it's 4cm tall (not including the keys) and cancelled my order. That's more than 2x what I consider too tall. It's as thick as a digital piano.

That's a bit of a shame as otherwise it would have been perfect for me.

It's all fun and games until you spend $1k on a keyboard that you'll get in 2022.

  • Been using K4 for a year
    Best keyboard ever.

    Had Das and Corsair before
But this is a fantastic value and quality

  • How do these compare to the non-wireless Kogan ones? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-full-rgb-mechanical-keybo…

    • +1

I’d take the Keychron 11 times out of 10, especially at this price. Even full price.

  • Found more Keychron K6 Wireless RGB Mechanical Keyboard - Gateron Brown in stock: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/keychron-k6-wireless-rgb-me…

And the Keychron K2 Wireless Bluetooth Compact RGB Mechanical Keyboard - Gateron Blue https://www.mwave.com.au/product/keychron-k2-wireless-blueto…

  • Wow! Very rare to see wireless mechanical keyboards.

  • Owned a K2 for a couple of months now. Can’t speak highly enough of it. Just bought one of these K6 models, hopefully it’s just as good.

It’s a shame they’re not hot-swap, but I really can’t complain for this price. Stoked with this deal.

    • Which key type did you go for?

      • +1

On the K2 I went for Gateron Red, but I swapped them out for SP-Star Purple switches.

On the K6 for this deal, went with the aluminium case LK Optical Blue switch

  • guys keep in mind the K6 has a stupid keyboard layout and there isn't a dedicated del key. Not sure if this matters to you, but it would drive me insane.

  • Anyone have a concise and condensed summary of all the switches available?

i bought k8 $120 a month ago, awesome keyboard, k6 layout is weird but with this price it's so tempting

I ended up buying https://www.mwave.com.au/product/keychron-k2-wireless-blueto… all up $92. Looking forward to getting my fingers on it.

Got a k6, looking forward to it

Any aluminium ones left in stock?

  • This or the logitech g915 tkl?

  • Was close to buying this but I saw a lot of reviews about switching connections between multiple devices. chose MX Keys instead.

Woulda liked to test a mechanical kb tho….

Been using a K8 alu with Gateron browns for a while. Really enjoy typing on it. Fast and accurate. Best mechanical keyboard I have owned but my experience is limited to the K8 and a Corsair K95 with Cherry brown switches.

This deal is a steal - ordered. Thanks OP!

Edit: You really need to use a palm rest with these keyboards. The top of the key caps are a significant height off the desktop even with the keyboard legs retracted. Much higher than anything else I have used. Keep this in mind, I couldn't use the Keychrons without a palm rest and I have large hands with good reach.

  • Is this better than G915?

  • Is the k2 aluminium brown switch rrp @ 109 or is that the sale price

    • seems like back in stock back to retail for the aluminium brown :'(

      • but back retail price*

  • I got the K6 because i wanted a compact sized wireless keyboard as i use it both for work Windows and home Mac and the easy switch between the 2 was a great feature. I onlyuse it wired now, as the wirelsss works perfectly fine on Windows but eventually it just starts lagging on my Mac. Tried updating firmware and they even sent me a replacement but issue still happens. No other issue with other Bluetooth products.

It's a great price for a decent quality mech keyboard, but don't rely on wireless capabilities if you're on a Mac.

    • i have zero issues with k6 on the macbook air m1. i keep hearing how Apple don't implement the bluetooth stack properly so maybe it might be worth it to get a bluetooth dongle of the latest standard to override internal bluetooth? and there might be interference coming from somewhere or another device.

this gets discussed regularly on reddit and fb groups, so take a look around there and see if you can get some advice (if you haven't already).

      • Yeah it most definitely could just be my Mac version. It's a Pro 13" 2019. I haven't had an opportunity to test it out on other Macs.

I was thinking it's the keyboard bluetooth because i use wireless earphones and mouse with no issues.
