If anyone is wondering if you can shuck the SSD, you can but the internal drive is mSATA (not m.2)
You'll need a mSATA to SATA adapter to connect it a standard SATA port.

    • Yeah i think with the speed difference between SATA based (maximum 550mb/s) and nvme (3,500mb/s 3.0, 7,000+mb/s 4.0) makes it not worthwhile for most setups

      • Good for secondary storage/game drive. For primary is go NVMe

        • Also handy for some Macs that use mSATA

          • @Scrobo: There are no macs (at least that i'm aware of) that accept an mSATA drive at least without the use of adaptors. They pretty much always used their own proprietary connectors other than their earlier 2.5" SATA SSD's that Toshiba made.

    • Do you know what the internal drive is? Would it be better than 870 QVO sata drive?

      • I believe it’s an 860 EVO (or something equivalent) which would be better than 870 QVO

Wow, is this the lowest ever?

    • Keen to know as well, anyone?

    • +2

Looks to be the cheapest ever posted on OZB

just checked out buying 2 100 gift cards from shop back, it works without after pay for any of you wondering

    • +1

For anyone using this method its best to buy the "swap gift cards" then redeem it as ebay gift cards. Swap gift cards give 5% back

$200 for 2TB if you buy this with afterpay

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-Samsung-T5-Portable-SSD-…

  • The extra $1 to grab a Razer Mask is totally worth it.

    • +5

I'd pay an extra $1 not to lol

      • +4

But wearing the mask ensures people are socially distant from you 🤨

        • +4

So does coughing, which is free.

    • cut it in half and hang it up as a flag in your room

It's cheap to go from mSATA to SATA with something like this

At less than $200 for 2TB of SSD, it would make a fantastic game drive. There's been many tests done on the load times between SATA SSDs and NVME and there's only a tiny negligible speed advantage to going NVME as the bottleneck tends to be the CPU loading the assets into RAM rather than the loading of assets from storage.

  • Sorry, but how come it's showing $249 for me?

    • Did you put it in your cart then apply the coupon code?

      • I did, with the code PAPDY20 it said "This code can't be applied to your order".

        • Hm, it looks like it’s only an option when you choose afterpay as the payment method.

          • @TheRealCJ: I also did this, but still $249. Thanks for your message anyway TheRealCJ.

        • do you have eBay Plus?

        • It should work if you select After Pay at checkout first, then apply the code, then pay.

If you did try to apply the code first, it won't work. If you try select After Pay after attempting to put the code first, the code will not yet be applied. The code always has to be applied after selecting After Pay as the payment method.

    • pananozbargain,
You have to Log out with AfterPay

      • +1

You mean checkout with Afterpay? which I did that. It's still showing 4 payments of AU $62.25. :-(

        • Yes lol

T5 is quite a bit slower (500MBs) compared to T7 (1000MBs) . If you need a faster speed, probably should consider the T7. I use T7 for my portable 4K video editing needs, can really feel the difference.

    • Massive difference in price too, and you only get the full speed difference if you have one of the newer USB 3.2 Gen2 ports. With your standard USB 3.0 Type-A you can expect to see read/write speeds up to around 465MB/s with a T7.

      • I just checked that the Xbox series X supports USB 3.2. Can anyone comment on whether it is worth it to get T7 over T5?

      • There is no way you can get those speeds on a USB 3.0 connection
IIRC the best real world speeds recorded on USB 3.0 were in 200s

        • If you say so dude, i regularly transfer files to one of the older T3 models from a 3.0 port and it was doing 400+ all the time.

    • If you want faster, you're much better off buying an NVME USB-C 10Gbps enclosure for $30 and an NVME SSD - you'll get around 1GB/s. If you want even faster and you have Thunderbolt 3, grab an NVME TB3 40Gbps enclosure for around $100 - good for 3-4GB/s

    • +3

Unless you have 3.2 Gen2 or 3.2 Gen 2x2 equipped system, it may not be worth spending extra for T7. I was an early buyer but speed is identical with my old T5.

  • Great for Xbox or ps5 storage

    • +1

using it to play games on PS4 games on PS5 and the loading times are extremely fast. PS I used a T5

    • That appears to be a compromised ebay account, possibly fraud listings, as the eBay account was originally made in the UK but is now being used to list items in AU for too-good-to-be-true prices.

      Avoid buying from that seller.

      • thanks for that

Still in stock if you get it with a mask for $200

  • SSD only option is back in stock. Purchased 1.

  • Has anyone had their order shipped yet? Mine hasn't been

    • Nope but Ebay says to expect delivery by Monday, so let's see what happens :)

      • Oh Thanks me too.
        Not shipped yet

  • Just shipped.
