      • -1

        Thanks… Hope it helps someone.

    • there are thousands of cheaper earphones on the market.. you decide

these are noise cancelling - comparable against AirPods Pro, wf1000xm3, galaxy buds pro etc

      • -4

        these are noise cancelling

I only use mine when the wife is out shopping, so no need for noise cancelling.

        • +12

Alright everyone, you heard the man. jv doesn't need noise cancelling. Time to delete the post and pack up shop

          • +2

            @LittleJerry96:

            you heard the man

I heard rumours that jv is a woman

        • -1

just sell your wife, so no need to wait for your wife to go shoppin

          • @[Deactivated]:

            just sell your wife

Then I'd have to pay capital gains tax…

@jv: Yeah keep her for negative gearing.

              • -1

My TW1s just died after my son threw them in the pool.

      Instant buy.

      • +2

Did you throw your son in the pool as retaliation? #iamnotadetective

        • +1

Yeah he did, son couldn't swim so ended up buying another

          • +4

@michael9865: Buy a new child? They're free at the local park! What a total amateur!

            • @Munki: They don't come with the receipt so no warranty. Might aswell get the ones they are giving away on gumtree if you don't care about warranty

      • +1

These are a big improvement over the TW1.

  • got last time they did this deal, is an amazing earphone, go for it! the case is smaller than the sony ones and the quality of the sound is the same! i never ran out of battery

    • What's the mic quality like? Seems to be the downfall with the cheap earbuds I've tried so far. Tried various Soundpeats and Jabees and everyone says my phone mic and old Jabra 65t sound much better and clearer.

      • never used the mic on mine

      • +1

Microphone before a firmware update was actually useless, very disappointing for a $500 RRP unit.

After the Firmware the mic is passable but not as good as Apple airpod Pro 2 or Jabras, but I think these have better sound quality.

The one issue I have is the APTx codec implementation is poor and has lag . My $30 Tronsmart ear buds work with less delay on the same codec, I dunno what Sennheiser have done wrong here but they've done something wrong.
On Android if I want latency free YouTube/Prime/Netflix viewing I have to open developer settings and manually set the codec to SBC. The irony is SBC should have more latency than APTx. I have read that video streams will adjust playback for audo delay with SBC which might account for it but sadly you can't set a default codec, the ear buds have it hard coded.

Overall I give them 10/10 sound quality, 7/10 Microphone, 5/10 codec.

    • Noise cancelling is significantly better on the Sony's however (I own both)

      • it does the job, don't think the difference is a factor to go for the sony

    • +4

yea you put superglue on the bud and stick them in your ear. if you dont do it, happy to do it for you. heard noise cancellation works better this way!

    • Found that guy who watches Facebook videos max volume speakerphone on the train…

    • +1

Why did you even comment? You have nothing useful to say. Your comment was not helpful nor was it funny. Next time just don't say anything.

    • Hahaha.

"I also don’t want anything in or over my ears"

Then maybe this product isn't for you, as they literally go in your ears. And you seem happy with the phone speaker. Like… what are you expecting people to say to you?

BTW the audio quality is just miles better. Night and day. But you'll never know if you can't tolerate either headphones or ear phones. So why worry about it?

Got the V1s and after playing around with the EQ for awhile hit the sweet spot I reckon. They sound unreal for bluetooth earbuds/headphones even better than the XM3/XM4s (post EQ adjustments) for mine. The V2s sound very similar going by most of the reviews. Do note that how they sit in your ears matters a lot so good idea to take a few seconds initially to adjust it while playing a track.

  • +21

I also have a set, I got them in addition to the Samsung Buds+ I already owned, expecting them to be fairly similar but for $250 I thought it was worth a go. Sound-wise they're superb, I prefer them over the Samsung's, but not enough to justify paying twice as much IMO. However, that's not why they've completely replaced the Buds+. There are two reasons for that. 1) the interface of the Buds+ drove my up the wall - I listen to 2+ hour DJ sets, not individual tracks, and if I ever need to pull them out, adjust them, or tap them to start or stop playback, I frequently accidentally double-tap, causing it to skip to the next track. Even knowing how sensitive they were and being extremely careful every time I reached up to them, about a quarter of the time I'd accidentally double-tap them and want to rip them out and throw them down the street.

The TW2 don't do that - you can easily adjust them or pull them out without risking touching the tap surface. I haven't yet accidentally double-tapped the left bud and skipped to the next track.

The second benefit is ambient audio pass-through - with a double-tap of the right bud, the TW2 use their mics to pick up and amplify ambient sounds, so you can have conversations without having to remove them. If you wear them while shopping and you need to speak to the occasional cashier, I find this extremely convenient - I don't have to take them out and hold them in my hand while I talk to anyone, they can stay where they are and I can hear close to perfectly well.

As a full comparison, the TW2 aren't comprehensively better than the Buds+ - Samsung has the upper hand in terms of mic pickup when taking calls, the Buds+ are significantly clearer for people to hear you when you're wearing them. I never had complaints when using the Buds+, yet I get them all the time when using the TW2. They're still usable, but make you harder to hear, which is a huge shame in such an expensive ear bud from a company with so much experience in the audio field.

The Buds+ are also superior when it comes to Bluetooth connection quality - the TW2 will suffer from 2.4GHz radio frequency noise such as in an area highly saturated by wifi signals, causing them to drop in and out, where the Buds+ will keep on working without skipping a beat in the same environment tested against the same phone.

If I could combine Samsung's Bluetooth and mic quality with the design and interface of the TW2, that would be my favourite bud. As it is, I have to accept the TW2 can't do everything perfectly, but it doesn't drive me up the wall using it, and for that I've settled on them for my daily use. I will reach for the Buds+ if I know I'm going to need to talk on the phone, but then I'll pop them back in the case and swap to the TW2.

    Highly recommended.

    • Thanks for the long post, very helpful. Have you tried taking calls with these ear buds? Are you able to do this on the street and not have the other person not being able to hear you?

      • Sorry for delayed reply, I haven't been on here in a week.

Yes, I take calls with them all the time. I forgot to mention I used them for a week with the factory firmware and found call quality absolutely useless, after the firmware upgrade they have improved massively. Still a long way from the Buds+, but actually usable now. Originally I would have to pull one out and swap to phone audio to have a usable call, but most of the time people can hear me well enough although there are still occasional complaints.

    • +2

Wow thanks. Answered my question. Looks like if going for best mic, buds+ is the better choice

      • Yes. I also have a high-end Plantronics headset I use at my work desk which is indistinguishable from phone audio - always crisp and clear. The Buds+ aren't quite that good, but for bluetooth earbuds they're really up there. I just find them far too temperamental to use that often :-/

    • You've hit the nail on the head regarding call quality and connection issues. I got this when it was last half price but returned it two weeks later.

It was unusable for calls with even the slightest background noise; the recipient heard cars, buses, people and even someone else's conversation clearer than me standing still outside in the CBD. Don't even attempt to try walking with them as it'll pick up wind noise like a yacht in a storm.

Sound quality is good for my ears. For reference I have Westone W20 (cable and FiiO Bluetooth) and Bose QC35ii that tick my music listening boxes.

Fit was average and are not weighted well for my ears, they did fall out once and thankfully not into a drain. The Samsung Buds v1 fit well with the wings at the end but sound quality isn't quite there.

After I returned them I bought the Soundpeats Trueair 2 which worked much better for calls but not great for sound quality. I keep these for laptop conference calls.
I also picked up the Soundpeats Sonics which work surprisingly well for the price and call quality is a step up from from Sennheiser but down from the Trueair 2 due to the design.

I'm waiting on the Samsung Buds+ as I think it'll make a good compromise between portability, sound quality and call usage.

  • Anyone else have problems with these falling out! They just straight up don’t stay in my head and I found them uncomfortable. Sounded superb though!

    • I use comply tips. Never had an issue.

    • Tips are hit/miss. I have hundreds from old purchases, some iem's come with 5 or more pairs.
Swap over with other pairs, you might get a winning combo.

    • Thanks for the pointer.

    • You're most likely using incorrect tips. Change the tips to a different size (larger perhaps) or get some Comply tips. That should help.

    • Tried all the tips provided, could never get a comfortable fit. Will invest in the comply tips.
Do any of you have recommendations for which tips to buy?

      • The Complys come in various densities and sizes. I've found them all to wear out relatively quickly (I guess it doesn't help when they're quite pricey) but they are very effective

Rtings is a joke when it comes to headphone reviews, only stick with them for displays

      • -2

Totally agree! Stick with them for TVs and monitors… They're hopeless with sound….

      • +2

What part of that review is a joke. Genuinely curious?

        • I think its anything that disagrees with their opinion.

          • @poxy001: Well if their opinion is anything like my opinion, it must be fantastic and worth listening to.

        • +1

Well seeing how every audiophile review site rates them at 9 or 10 out of 10, I'd say that's a concern. WhatHiFi have never done me wrong before.

@da1nonly: I think the issue here is that people are only looking at a number rather than the qualifiers. I never take number ratings seriously. You should always look at the actual justifications instead and see if they match your personal preferences rather than caring about a number. The Stelias are actually pretty bad for their price point(much prefer the Clears myself). Where as the QC35’s are solid for their price point.

Are the Stelias better? Yes absolutely. Are they 20 times better. I don’t believe so.

End of the day, audio is always going to be subjective though.

    That RRP is a joke

  • GREAT PRICE! I got mine at $300…last year, damn this price is tempting

  • I got the TW1 and great sound etc on last ozb deal.
Please note: of they haven't fixed the battery leak issue. It will frustrate you no end.

For me, the left ear bud never disconnects. Even when in case. Keeps playing audio.

I have to DC my ear buds from Bluetooth everytime I put them away.

The firmware update was supposed to fix and did not for me

    • I read that if you stuck a USB cable to the case it would stop or limit the battery drain issue. have you tried this?

      • Like leave a USB cable plugged in?

        • Yeah, its meant to be a 'hack'. worth trying with the cable now and if it works some people buy those short type c adapter/converter things so it sits relatively flush on case.

worth a google to confirm from someone else on the internet before listening to some other random on the internet :-)

          • @dainese: I haven't opened them yet, but I bought them too.

2 years warranty, if they play up just return for a refund.

          • @dainese: that. is a good idea.

            ill have a crack!

            • @Kossac: Not sure if it slows the drain but I used the USB hack from day 1 and it still fully drains after 2-3 days. It's annoying but undecided if it's worth upgrading to this or the Buds+. I guess you could simply charge it every day but the battery life will surely decrease more quickly.

              • @pe arl: Ah damn, is the USB hack purely to limit the battery drain?

                • @dainese: Yep if you look at some of the past deals some people have bought magnetic USB-C tips so you don't have to carry a cable everywhere. I guess it helps but it's no permanent fix.

                  • @pe arl: That is a terrible flaw. It may matter less for a heavy user that requires regular charging anyway. Wonder if it is a hardware issue or a software issue, or both

              • @pe arl: The Buds+ have come down alot in price, may be worth buying if still on sale and returning these for a refund.

You could get lucky and be sent V2? Lol

            • @Kossac: i have a few sets too! but not tried the Sennys. Good luck

        • The hack doesn't work, returned mine

  • Tough deciding which TWE's to consider buying to pair up mainly with a Win10 desktop PC and occasionally my SGS9+ phone pairing for watching videos, and perhaps when lying in bed.

Sennheisers seem like a good all-rounder but don't have a great EQ page, and only the right earbud can be used on its own.
SGE Pro seem a bit smaller/more comfortable and have a better microphone (less important), but do not have fully customisable controls. There's a chance these could be even cheaper on OzB one day.

  • I have a bunch of high end wired earphones but the TW2 are definitely the best sounding ear buds I've tried. I have the Momentum TW2, Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Buds Pro came with my phone so I've been wondering which set to sell.

For music the TW2 are noticeably the cleanest all through the frequency range, instrument separation is more defined and bass is crisper than the Pros. The TW2 also have a wider sound stage have a presence that the Pros don't have.

The most comfortable for me are the Buds+ because they sit quite shallow and I generally use them for hours long conference calls. The mic on the Pro is by far the best but I just don't like the shape of them in my ears, they seem to tunnel all the way into my brain even though they probably aren't as deep as they seem. The mic on the TW2 with firmware update is usable for calls and people will understand you but quality isn't the best. I get the best seal and most secure fit with the TW2.

One good thing about the Buds Pro is they don't stick out much from your ear so you can actually sleep in the things if you need to block out noise in bed (the Buds+ are too shallow and fall out, the TW2 are too big).

As far as touch controls go, the TW2 are my favourite, they are very customisable and you can adjust ear buds without accidentally pressing the touch controls. As TrevorX said, the Buds+ are such a mess of accidental presses, I've just disabled the touch pads. The Buds Pro are fine, occasional accidental press but nothing to worry about.

The TW2 has noticbly the best noise cancellation over the Pros in my opinion, that may also be down to having a better seal overall in my ears with the included tips on the TW2.

The Buds+ have the longest battery life by a long stretch.

Overall, the TW2 are the clear winner for me as audio quality is the most important to me and then ANC. I have a lot of 4h long conference calls so will keep the Buds+ for that as TW2 can get uncomfortable. The Buds Pro just didn't grab me as I was expecting as the jack of all trades. I don't make many phone calls or switch devices a lot with buds in so if I did then that may change as the Pros are definitely the best for that.

    • 4hr conf calls?

      • Yes, thanks covid

        • Why?
