  • Any deals on the Pi 400?

    • How much are you looking to pay for one?

    • +1

It's pretty new so there's been no deals

You can get it for $110 from core electronics

      • A quick google shows that you can get it a little cheaper from some overseas sellers even including the freight, but I don't think that the tradeoff between delivery time and the minor amount you'd save is worth it. A local price of $110 (plus $6 freight) seems pretty good.

  • Is this overkill for a pihole?

    • Yes. I have Pi-hole running on an old 2nd gen Raspberry Pi without any issues.

      • +1

I just setup a pi hole on raspberry pi 2b recently haha works well

    • Yes, I've been running pihole and unbound on a raspberry pi zero w with a microusb-ethernet adapter.

A Pi4 would be good if you wanted to host some other services in addition to pihole.

    • +2

Yes. I'm running PiHole on a 1st generation Pi (256MB RAM) and it's fine.

But…. once you have a Pi you'll inevitably also use it as a media center, print server, OpenVPN end point, network file share, home automation, Minecraft server… and probably all of them at the same time.

      • this

      • I give up on pihole, getting too many redirecting issues.

      • Can your first gen do all of that?

        • Mostly, but high effort things like Minecraft server/kodi will lock it up unless its running on a separate, clean, minimal SD image.

I guess my point was get the best version of a Pi you can afford because you'll end up multitasking and automating things you didn't originally think of after Pihole.

  • Is 4gb overkill for octoprint?

    • 2GB is sufficient.

  • This is actually a pretty good package.
About the only thing I'd swap is the probably counterfeit Sandisk 64GB card for a Samsung Evo Plus card (32GB minimum for IOPS / performance reasons even if you don't need the space).
The heatsinks and fan are important for anything more than light use as these do throttle at higher loads.

  • Would this be good as Kodi HTPC machine playing high bitrate uncompressed video and audio MKV rips?

  • 32GB $127 at the moment which is still ok, considering how cheap MicroSD cards are
