Is the Apple education store still not better with the free AirPods? (For the MacBooks)

    • I believe that’s already ended

      • I see, but that being said, the 256 is cheaper on Apple by 10c (lol) but the 512 is cheaper by $55 if you decide not to go through OW.

        • +1

yer but you can always stack with discounted gift cards on JB / TGG. Can probs get those for 10% off via classifieds or those Coles / TCN deals

  • Hopefully OW drops their price so we can go to JB and price match then used 5% gift cards. Lol

    • erm OW will only drop their price by like a dollar haha

      • Very true :(

    • how do you get past $500 gc limits per month by certain gc issuers like suncorp? (except buying in advance)

  • OW now changed price :(

Time to whip out the cards or maybe wait a bit longer as this is the second recent good sale for these?

    • +1

they haven’t changed the price for Mac mini yet so still possible to pricebeat

Time to whip out the cards or maybe wait a bit longer as this is the second recent good sale for these?

yeh these are the second best price I believe. the 20% off was a rare sale and only max $300 off and didn’t work for models over $2000

      • OW has now dropped the price for Mac Mini as well - $989

  • Where can we get the 5% discounted gc?

    • +1

      Suncorp

      • Thx

    • $500/month limit applies, just so you know

      • $1000/month for Suncorp

    I endorse this deal.

Ebay Afterpay 20% was d best offer fr macmini so far

  • Did anyone ever had any luck on getting discounts on built to order Macs at JB?

    • yes - I ordered a 16gb MBP at JB - they matched Unidays price (which was the best deal at the time) I paid with gift cards.

      • Nice, I am unable to access unidays

        • I should have added - the 1st JB store said no - the 2nd store said yes

      • Did you need to go instore to order the 16gb?

        • +1

yes - i took a print out of the unidays deal which had the model number on it

  • +3

any idea why these retailers never have the mac mini 16gb ram for sale?

    • +1

i think this is the case with apple store too though - if you look online, its only available in store for pickup on 8gb models. I think all the 16GB ones are shipped from china when ordered directly through apple. i don't think you can buy them anywhere else.

    • Unfortunately they're custom orders. Even the refurb store has never had 16gb mini's (according to the refurb trackers I've seen).

    • Came here to ask that same question to the community.

    • retailers mostly sell base models. custom
build to order goes through apple.

  • Haven't bought from JB-HiFi for a long time. Is it pretty much take it or leave it? Can you bargain further with pricing?

    • +1

Yes, they will, but only if you ask. Push back. You'll have some luck.

    • Not with Apple products

  • +1

Only Apple could get away with charging $300 for a 256GB boost in storage for an otherwise identical machine, in 2021. Simply amazing.

    • -7

Nowhere near identical with new m1 chip do some reading :)

      • +3

        I'm comparing the 256GB m1 with the 512GB m1… am I missing something?

      • do some reading

        indeed…

    • +2

      its a joke isnt it.

not sure amazing is the word, more like greedy.

any upgrade to mac mini is $300 if you bump up the ram it's $300

let's not sugar coat it. its just GREED

      • -4

No-one is forcing you to buy it. Why don't you sell me your house for $1? Let's not sugar coat it. It's just GREED

        • +2

Apple eco system is designed to lock you in — so perhaps less of a choice than it might seem. Previous Mac mini's had upgradeable ram and SSD, this one does not. Hence, if you want to upgrade to this machine, you will be forced to choose your SSD at purchase, rather than having the option to upgrade later.

I understand the RAM is on the CPU package… fair enough, but there is no insurmountable technical reason I can see why the SSD could not be the same.

          • +3

            @pinchies: apple's greedy joke.

SSD soldered in is like buying a car where you cant' ever change the tires.

it's all designed to give it a shorter lifespan

everywhere else you get 2TB SSD for $300 not with this greedy company

            • @Nilfunds: You can't get an SSD with the same read/write speeds for anywhere near $200, they are around the $500+ mark.

They charge too much for the SSD upgrade, but a comparable 1TB SSD is around $250 and up.

              • @Scrobo: are you drunk?

                it's a 500GB SSD for extra $300 upgrading 256GB

just put a Samsung 1TB NVME into my box for $162 after cash back
