Shodan Lifetime Membership US$4 (~A$5.24) @ Shodan.io

200

Shodan is currently giving their lifetime memberships for $4 US as part of celebrating reaching 4million users. I am unsure how long it will last.

Good deal as they skipped their usual cheap membership deal on thanksgiving last year.

What it is, from Wikipedia:
Shodan is a search engine that lets the user find specific types of computers (webcams, routers, servers, etc.) connected to the internet using a variety of filters. Some have also described it as a search engine of service banners, which are metadata that the server sends back to the client.[1] This can be information about the server software, what options the service supports, a welcome message or anything else that the client can find out before interacting with the server.

That reminds me I signed up in 2019 and haven’t used it yet.

Can anyone suggest something fun to do with it?

I'd been waiting on a deal for a while so I just got mine. So far having fun just in the 'images' section seeing all the unsecured webcams and RDP sessions that are accessible.

I'd also like to know what people have done with theirs though….

Y'mean the ones with the word "honeypot" next to it?

    Got one!

  • What is the advantage of buying a Shodan membership compared to supplementing the free capability with either ZoomEye or Censys?

    • Paying for services keeps them alive !

Why did I just buy this?

  • I'll stick with google

  • is this so you can spy on people who dont put tape over their cameras?

  • But why? To spying other people? Honest question

Two examples I can think of are:
      - Use it to monitor your own responses for changes or know security exploits
      - If you are a SaaS provider you could use it to find your competitors customers

Thanks, didn't know they can do network vulnerability monitoring too. Will check them out

Hi, this is a great tool to monitor your network for vulnerabilities, as it works as router ports scanner. If you have a static IP you just monitor it, with dynamic you need a DNS resolve service.
Instruction -> Throughout the menus you go to Monitor, Setup network Monitor, add network or domain (Your static or Dynamic resolve), and add your email for to get the notifications.

  • Where can I get the lifetime membership? Clicked the link and just showed their main site. Unless it has expired

  • Unfortunatelly it got expired.
