For those too lazy to click, they deliver to postcodes from 3101 to 3180.

  • I just made a purchase in Greensborough 3088 but it's not on your postcodes list.

    • +1

We have been adding postcodes as we slowly expand our delivery bubble. Greensborough happened to be on that list.

      • Awesome, thanks!

  • +2

Man wish I could get this in regional Victoria!

    • Tell me about it… we did hotpot at home last night but a lot of our preferred items were purchased in Melbourne. If we weren't so picky, it would be possible to buy all local, but we're lucky to be in A-W.

  • This is quite random, but could you sourve some satay celup paste for me? Its sort if like hotpot so was just hoping. Im in perth.
Good luck with your new venture.

  • +1

Can you provide information on the source country of the Hotpot soup bases? Are they made in Australia?

    • +7

Hi tik tok, we cook the soups fresh in our commercial kitchen in Warranwood VIC.

  • Wow great idea! Anything to get more and more people to have hotpot is a tick in my book 😁

Best of luck with the business, sadly my postcode isn't listed (3810), but once it is and you can cater for at least 2 people then I'm definitely down to give it a go.

    • Certainly a novel concept and something would be interested in trying at home when it comes to Sydney. I've only ever had hotpot at Haidilao and loved the tom yum soup and spicy soup flavours but wasn't really a fan of boiled chicken and meat slice strips. Veggies & meatballs were okay but the meat just wasn't great texture or flavour for me. What or where else do you recommend for beginners?

      • +4

Oh I went to Haidilao the other day and loved it. I would very much recommend their tomato base soup, it's very delicious! Tastes like a proper tomato soup rather than those tomato "flavoured" soups.

For hotpot I tend to stay away from the pre-cooked items (like the boiled chicken). When you say meat slice strips do you mean just those Lamb/Pork raw slices? Lamb is the better option imo. For the meatballs, were they the beef tendon balls?

As for other foods, I always go for cheesy tofu, and also the spongy beancurd cubes. The latter absorbs the soup base so when you bite into it you get that (almost literal) explosion of flavour of the soup.

Cuttlefish is also another great option, and also the prawn mince. Also worthwhile to make a dipping sauce too for extra flavour. The missus and I always make the peanut/satay sauce at hotpot places, Haidilao has recipes at the sauce station for each different type.

Only other thing I would strongly recommend is the fried steam buns at Haidilao, comes with condensed milk for dipping and tastes really good (only pre-cooked item I'd recommend).

Other than that just order anything else you might like, we enjoy the weird stuff so duck blood is usually one of our go-to's 😆 but might be a bit much for beginners.

Sorry for the long post, I get too excited when it comes to hotpot! But hope it helps a bit if there's any items you wouldn't have thought of ordering :)

EDIT: Just one more, ribbon noodles are very tasty too and soak up a lot of the soup flavour.

        • +1

That's some great info there to consider for next time. Thanks for taking the effort!

  • Woohoo, ordered extra meat, love this idea.

  • How does the store pickup lucky dip work?

    • +1

We are still working out the exact details. But for orders over $50 and are pcikup up from our kitchen, we have setup a wall of mystery boxes, pick one and get whatevers shown inside. This can range from extra sides, hotpot sets, future discounts and even board games to compliment a hotpot party.

      • +1

Look forward to trying it out on Friday then. A heads up, your website says for orders over $30.

        • Ah thanks for that, will fix it up now. Appreciate your support.

      • Oooh.. I can't wait to try this out.

  • this is a great idea, i myself wouldn't buy it for myself, but definitely would by as a gift. good luck with the business! i hope you do well

    • Thats a brilliant idea, we might add gift cards as an option soon.

Any takeaway food is cheaper if you make it yourself. What's your point?

      • +2

I think see both sides of this - takeaway food is definitely always cheaper if you make it yourself, because you're paying someone for the convenience of not having to do the buying, prep and cooking yourself, then also maybe even delivery on top.

But with a basic hot pot meal there's basically no prep involved - buy your packaged meat, buy your veges, soup base if that's your thing, and hopefully you got some drinks handy at home already. Then cooking is part of hot potting either way, a big part (imo) of why people get takeaway is not having to cook yourself.

So the value-add here is purely the convenience and for people to try hot pot + delivery, and once enough people have a pot from the shop, business needs to stay sustainable selling the ingredients.

Still, a novel business idea and I would wish the best for OP!

      • I thought you had to make this yourself. Not so?

        • +1

Yep, you do. You gotta put the prepared food into the prepared soup base that was heated with the supplied hot pot and burner which was all delivered to your door.

    • professional business advice from noted connoisseur of commerce Wardaddy

      • Lancashire hotpot ≠ Commerce.

  • Any chance for interstate postage just without the meat/veg? Little hotpot + the soup base would be awesome

    • We can ship the pots, but our soups are cooked fresh and contain no preservatives, so don't think we can send those. You would also need to get your own fuel as there are restrictions to sending those interstate.

  • Just a few questions - what are the sizes of the meat packs? And in terms of allergens, are there any major issues? I'm allergic to nuts for example.

    • Meat packs are roughly 100g per portion. In terms of allergens, we don't us any nuts in our soup bases so there should be no issues.

Really struggled with the layout of the site.

page click for every category and then click again into each item. once you add to cart then it goes to the cart and you have to navigate back 3 pages to get back to the menu

got tired after adding 5 items and gave up

should be a simpler system where you can just add items and it stays on the page for you to keep browsing

    • +1

I agree with the navigation of our site, because we are using so many apps to deal with our orders, some don't work well with others and breaks some functionality. We are trying our best with no coding knowledge to get things up and running. Apologies for the inconvenience.

      • I'm also struggling with the site. Most pages it stops scrolling and I have to go back and start again.
        Android, chrome browser

        • Thats very sad to hear, but very valuable feedback. The last thing we want is for people to struggle with the ordering process and leave. Will try to streamline things to the best of our ability (we have no coding knowledge).

  • +1

Don't want to be a grumpy keyboard warrior, but it would be good if you can add your ABN details to your website. Being a food service et all, a mobile phone and Gmail address alone seems not enough.

    • +3

Thanks Kontiki, didn't know it was a requirement to add ABN details to the website, we will look into this. But rest assured, we are operating out of a council approved commercial kitchen.

  • Hi Simon,
When are you planning for other states?

Also, not much transparency in the ingredients we are ordering. How much is 1 pork belly?

    • Hi FIVEDOLLAR, we can only hope that we get to a point where we can go interstate. In terms of portion size, all meat packs are 100g ( basically all we could fit in one take away box with the ice pack). We have received a lot of suggestions and feedback on our website and will do everything we can to make things as clear as possible.

  • Great idea OP. Keen to try it out.

For someone new to hotpot can you explain the difference between the tomato base and the herbal base? Which is a more 'authentic' hotpot experience?

    • Thank you railspider. These are our mild options for those that aren't good with spice. The herbal soup is very clean and is for those who like the original taste of the fresh ingredients. The tomato soup is more thick and coats the ingredients with the sweet broth. I'm not good with words so hope that makes sense.

  • 3136 Croydon South you missed it?

    • We do deliver to 3136.

      • Thanks. You may want to add Croydon South to your list. You have included all other 3136 suburbs.

Wow so many positive votes (137+) for something which hasnt got any reviews yet and only for 5% off.

Usually new businesses on ozbargain struggle to get positive votes unless they offer big discounts.

    I'll wait for feedback first.

    • +1

We are just as surprised, never expected so much positive feedback and support. Hopefully the feedback comes back positive so we can have you as a customer too.

    • I'd credit part of it to OP responding pretty quickly to queries from members :)

This isn't for me but wishing you all the best with the business OP!

      • Agreed. OP knows how to OzBargain. So many associated comments in this thread, it’s impressive.

    • +1

True and almost 50 bucks for basically a meal for one.

  • I'm guessing if we have a stove we don't need the pot and fuel? Just the soups and add ons

    • Hi Herbse, that is correct, however we have designed and portioned our soup bases so that they taste best with our pot size.

  • The pot is so cute!

  • Can i know the size (diameter and height) of the included pot and stand? Just want to see if it's reasonable size to be reuse for 2 ppl hotpot. hope it's not too small

    • The pot's diameter is 17.5cm. With the stand it is roughly 21cm high. For newcomers to hotpot, we would say one pot is enough for 2 poeple. But for seasoned hotpoters(?) we do recommend a pot each for the best experience.

  • Any time frame on when delivery to the West will be offered? I was actually browsing your site the other day but then I realised there was no delivery to Keilor East :)

    • +1

We are working with a few delivery partners to make this happen. We have tried doing it ourselves but that left us short in the kitchen as it is quite a drive for us. Please keep an eye on our social pages for updates coming soon.

    • 3033 is now covered through our delivery partner Doodel with a flat delivery fee of $5. https://doodel.com.au/collections/little-hotpot-heroes

  • How long does the fuel last? And how do you replenish it?

      • Nice find

      • These do work, but takes a lot longer to heat up than the gel fuels that we use and sell.

    • The fuels last for up to 3 hours and we stock replacements on our website. We did some trials with the wick burners from the comment below but found it did not heat up fast enough. We went through over 10 types of fuels before we settled on our final choice.

  • This is awesome, will be keen when you head west.

  • 3116 anyone?

    • +2

No I'm not in that suburb, but thanks for asking.

    • Yes, we deliver to 3116!

  • The hot pot itself is a bargain. Cheapest one on ebay is about $30-$35. Wouldn't mind buying a bunch of these but you don't ship to Sydney.

Just wondering if the fuel canisters are all the same physical size.

    • The Ebay price is all about the postage and handling .
They obviously can be sourced much cheaper .

  • Do you sell the "hot pot" separately? I'm more interested in that :)

    • Yes they do. Check the website.

      • Good observation mate.

    • We do sell them individually, but it probably makes more sense to get them via the packages.

  • Look forward to when you deliver to Western suburbs, very cute.

    • +1

Hi Miss B, the west is now covered through our delivery partners at Doodel for a flat fee of $5. https://doodel.com.au/collections/little-hotpot-heroes

      • Thank you. I ordered and for some reason it gave me $10.99 off, ended up being $49 for the hotpot set including delivery. I also got a few of the fuels. Looking forward to enjoying my personal hotpot and not having to share.

        • There was an issue with the site which has now been fixed. But our loss is your gain. We hope you enjoy your meal.

  • Great idea, and fortunately I'm in the delivery zone. I have a household member with a nut allergy (anaphylaxis). Can you comment on then ingredient packs and whether they are sourced/prepared separately to reduce cross contamination. Thanks.

    • Hi Pksw, thank you for your interest. We don't use nuts in any of our soup bases and have separate packing stations for meats/soy/vegetables.

  • Keen to hear from you the moment you're in Sydney! This looks amazing, great work!

  • +1

Did you get the idea from Happy Pot in Singapore?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfgZlJ5yrf8

    • +3

Not from them specifically, but another one from China. We loved hotpot ourselves and needed a way to scratch that itch during lockdowns. We fell into a rabbit hole of research and importing from China. Mistakes were made, lessons learnt, and now here we are.

      • NGL was pretty intrigued the first time I saw the vid but I'm in Sydney, will check it out if you expand here

    • +1

No way they’ll admit if it was tbh lol

  • Have a look at using Sendle! They were delivering next day to metro Melbourne suburbs for me for $6~ (A few years ago now). Could definitely be worth it for you to send some as testers to friends and family

    • Thanks for the advice catbug. We are working with a few delivery partners to see what works best for us and our customers.

  • I've never had hotpot but now I want it. Sadly I'm in Canberra so I can't support but maybe I can go out and try some somewhere :) btw you should try and include roughly how many people it serves. I know it says 1-2 but without any dietary info to to on that could be two tiny people or two huge men haha.

    • Hi Nyclix, we hope that we can have you as a customer one day. You are totally right about the dietry info, we overlooked this as we usually just stuff ourselves full during our hotpot sessions.

  • Ordered one for delivery on Fri! I'm especially keen to see how cute the pot itself turns out to be.

Btw, OP another suggestion is to add calorie info to each package?

  • My partner and I are big fans of hotpot, so we can't wait to make an order when delivery to the west is made available.

Btw your social media badges on your website footer is not linked.

  • Going to try it out :)

  • great idea and best of luck with the business!

  • I'd like to try but not available to East Melbourne 3002? Let me know if expanding!
