  • am in Sydney, but loving the idea. Let us know when you're opening here.

The picture from the pack for 1-2 people, looks like it would barely feed one person with the ingredients included, so the title is misleading in my opinion
    https://littlehotpotheroes.com.au/collections/set-packages/p…

Would be much cheaper to buy the ingredients and cook it yourself

    • +1

Of course its cheaper to buy the stuff yourself . But people are buying the experience and the chef magic !

      • +1

You're really buying the broth base imo. Everything else can be bought easily for cheaper.

        • -1

You can even buy the broth base in an asian grocery, or make it yourself

    • +3

wow! is it really cheaper to cook it yourself? colour me shocked

      • Of course it is! Not saying this isn't a good deal for beginners but this is nothing special for those who regularly have hot pot during winter. Dining in hot pot session with friends is more appealing in my view

      • *Much cheaper

      • +1

yeah just jump into any decent size chinese supermarket then they have everything including meats. the problem is you won't get "ready to cook" packet and it's sorta challenging. I'm not chinese and had to do multiple trial and error for chilli oil sauce for example.

      • With this hotpot deal, you do still cook it yourself :p

  • Good deal, all the best

  • Awesome I just ordered, best of luck with your business.

  • +2

So what is the bargain? saving of $2.50?

I can get almost double amount of foods from one Chinese grocery visit and it's guarantee fresh and clean.

    • Hell I'm not ordering any Uber eats anymore because I can go to the store and buy 3 times as much lol :)

  • Ozbargained.

    • +1

We underestimated the power of the Ozbargain community. Absolutely smashed today. We are so grateful.

  • How long can we hold onto the soup bases before they expire?

    • If kept in the fridge, we would say consume within one week for best results. We don't use any preservatives so don't recommend keeping for too long.

  • All the best with your business!

  • What an awesome idea - just put in an order. Hope things go well for you and best wishes with the business

Had this yesterday. When I opened the contents, I knew I had to go out and buy more ingredients as it wouldn't be enough for 2 people. I personally think there may not even be enough for one. I spent another $25 on meat, noodles and mushroom at a chinese grocery
In saying that, I think there is value in the deal considering the packaging, fuel and pots and delivery and happy to support them. And I did enjoy the experience.
Just don't expect to be full on what's provided. I also ended up using my own pot as the provided one realistically only caters for 1 person.

Thanks for the update! I love the idea, but am concerned by the quantities if this is the case. Maybe they just need to reduce the quantity a smidge and call it a 1 person, and also offer a beefed up version for 2 people..?

      • Exactly the concerns I mentioned in my comment in this thread

        • +1

At least OP getting real time feedback here at Start Up OZB that would cost thousands with R&D .

          • @popsiee: We are very grateful and definitely felt the force of Ozbargainers. We appreciate every bit of feedback and will do what we can to improve.

        • +1

          Exactly why i didn't order

Hi wmatch, thanks for the feedback. We did run a few trials with friends and family and many told us it was good for 1-2 people hence our recommendation. However we now think they were just being too kind. We will take your feedback and update the website so that it says serves one. We do not intend to mislead anyone. Thank you for your support and hope you enjoyed the meal.

      • Thanks op. Even if you put just an extra packet of noodles I think it would be sufficient to be for 1 person.
We did enjoy our meal and had a nice experience.
Good to hear you are taking on feedback and I wish you well on your business.

For other commenters, op did say it would feed 1-2 people so they are in the ball park but the price is not just based on food, it's also about the experience.

    • That was not my experience at ALL. We absolutely stuffed ourselves and had to force the last few bits down. YMMV.

  • Best of luck guys, I imagine you probably didn't think this would blow up so much, happy for you and your new business! looks like you have a lot of work on your hands!

I'm within the post code range which is nice, may give it a try after I see how the reviews go :)

  • I just received mine today, it's very nicely packaged! I can see where some people might say it's too small of a serving size for two people, but since the packs without the pot are only $35 I think the price and serving size is about right compared to if you bought takeaway instead. I'm still really looking forward to dinner tonight :D

Hi all. I ordered this for dinner tonight so I thought I'd write a review.

First off the serving size. We ordered 1 hot pot package for two people and it was just enough food for us. I think the serving size of 1-2 people was right on the money and it was a bit unnecessary to change it. If we had ordered 1 package for each of us there would be no way of us finishing either hot pot.

Next the presentation. The presentation of the package is incredible. Everything comes in cute little reusable containers with a reusable shopping bag holding it all. Also, the included instruction page was adorable.

Now the hot pot itself. We had a bit of trouble actually getting the hot pot to boil. Maybe because it was a cold night tonight, but after waiting 30 minutes for it to boil we moved it over to our stove and it boiled within a couple of minutes. After that we just moved it back to the provided hot pot stove to keep it warm. The food tasted great so no complaints there. However, I do have some complaints about the ratio of food. There was just enough meat included, not enough noodles, and too many vegetables. I think adding more noodles and removing some of the vegetables would decrease the amount of complaints about the package not being enough for 2 people by making the meal a bit more filling.

In closing the meal was fantastic and it was fun to set everything up. We'll definitely be thinking of ordering some more in the future.

    • Can i ask which soup base you used?

      • We had the herbal soup and that was pretty good
