$4 better than the usual code. Thanks!

  • +6

Just got this in my spam

    Which tastes better?

    • I hope their beef is as good as the beef in the comments…

  • -1

    Racist

    • +3

      are you?

      • are we all?

        • +2

          Sometimes

          • @enwar: Truth.

      • where do most racist jokes originate?

        • all the negs prove my point

  • +1

despite the racism, are youfoodz better than hellofresh? in terms of taste and portion sizes? i've had a few issues with hellofresh and would like to switch

    • +9

One is ready-to-eat meal while the other is ingredient + recipe only, really hard to compare

    • -5

      Umm, try for yourself

    • +6

hellofresh taste way better than yfz.
But it usually takes 30-45 minutes to get ready vs instant microwave food. Your call

      • Exactly this, I don’t understand people comparing a cook and clean yourself option to a microwave option.
After 45 mins of prep and cooking there’s the 15 mins of cleaning too…

      • You might as well use a delivery service if it takes that long .

        • Food can be edited to be a bit healthier than take out. HF is more of a meal prepping made easy for people that like to cook.

    • +5

I don’t rate Youfoodz at all, found the portions small and weren’t the greatest but it is just microwave food after all.

I was quite surprised at the HelloFresh recipes, I picked dishes that we wouldn’t normally make at home and found them quite enjoyable to the point we’ve kept the recipes to make again (through buying the ingredients in our usual grocery shop).
TBH I only used HelloFresh because I got 3 free boxes OzB referrals though, but they were really good.

      • How do you get the free boxes? I see people mention all the time. I clicked on an ad yesterday and it was only offering discounts.

        • +1

There was a promo two weeks ago with free boxes just pay delivery.
          Posted on ozbargain

          • +1

@cloudy: Also I think there's a page on ozbargain where people share free boxes but idk how to find it

      • +2

You can also view their meal recipes on their website without buying anything.

        • Yep that's true but why not get some of the free boxes while you're at it if you can. I just paid $9.99 delivery for three meals for two people each box.
That said, the OzBargainer in me probably wouldn't get any more boxes unless I get any more free credit.

Back to the original question though, out of Youfoodz and Hellofresh, for me who someone who isn't the best in the kitchen by far, I'd pick Hellofresh every time and just put in 20-30 mins of prep/cook time following their easy instructions.
After I tried Youfoodz for the first time, I can't see myself going back even unless I'm desperate for a bite. It reminded me of bad plane food.

          • @unco: It reminded me of bad plane food.

Thanks for the analogy. That settles it for me. No sale thanks.

            • +3

@jebdra: This just isn't true. People are over-selling how bad the meals are. Of course they are cooked in commercial kitchens and are not as good as home/restaurant food, but they are nothing like "bad plane food.' They are actually impressively good for microwave meals.

The person above either got one bad meal and is judging the whole company or is blinded by the whole racism thing. Try one for yourself.

              • +2

@WhatWouldBiggieDo: 100% Correct. Bad plane food is just garbage, and people suggesting house brand frozen meals are better are just delusional at best.

      • -1

        +1

I stopped using YFZ for its poor portion and bad taste, before it became racist haha.

On the contrast, most of the HF meal are quite good and I even kept their recipe.

I got back to HF for another 2 weeks for their 40% off reactive promotion lol. It could be a bit expensive for its RRP.

        • Do Hellofresh for more than a couple of weeks and you will quickly become bored and disappointed.

We have had copious issues with rotting vegies and missed ingredients.

You also realise that a third of all recipes involve cutting up potato (cheap) and putting it in the oven.

      • maybe it's cuz you got it for almost free. hence the feedback. but would your feedback change if you payed RRP? Certainly.

  • -2

YouFoodz tastes garbage. It’s the saltiest, processed crap. It really doesn’t hold a candle to any of the other main players.

    • +4

And what is your better idea for $6.5/7 per deal then? Link?

      • Cole's 375gm frozen meals. 1 of them and your choice of frozen veggies and it's a meal.

        • +5

Youfoodz fresh food is "processed crap" but you think Coles frozen meals are better. :| The frozen meals barely contain meat and do they really not contain any preservatives when their use-by dates are in 2022/2023?

      • +2

You can get cat food for 80 cents, doesn’t make it a better idea. A bargain IMO should be a balance of price / value and quality. This really doesn’t tick the last box.

      • +1

Aldi frozen meals are pretty good. A lot cheaper too.

      • +1

1 whole chicken (Woolies or coles) about $10-$12
Frozen veges (beans, broccoli and red capsicum) $8 / kg so about 50c/ 70g serve

Slow cook the chicken in the oven overnight in a closed pot at about 80-90° (add herbs, seasonings to taste). Super moist and tender.
Steam the veges. (4-5 mins) Taste almost as good as fresh.

That's at least 4 meals for 2 of us out of the chicken. That's 8 meals. That's $1.50 / meal
At 3 serves of veges with the chicken, that's another $1.50 / meal.

So $3 /meal. Add a potato in the microwave or some pasta or fresh baked bread and you've got meals at $4.

Healthy, tasty meals with no artificial flavours or preservatives and minimal time. 1pot wash-up.

Apologies if the calculations are inaccurate. Done roughly in my head.

Top six health meal-delivery services rated.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ9ttyFO45E

    Spoilers. Canstar rated Youfoodz last.

    https://www.canstarblue.com.au/stores-services/healthy-meal-…

    • To be fair, if you check product reviews. Youfoodz has more 5 star ratings than all others added together.

      https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/youfoodz

Plus reading the review, the reason it got 3 stars choice didn’t like the variety…..

It ultimately ended on three stars for meal variety

So I guess if you like their meals it’s good, if you want something they don’t offer they don’t offer it lol, pretty self explanatory

      • +3

That doesn't smell like astroturfing at all

    • +5

Hmm, I've used Lite n Easy and Youfoodz and looking at those ratings, I'd say Youfoodz is about right but Lite n Easy is over rated. eg value for money, both rate 4 stars yet LnE is considerably more expensive for similar size serving. Variety rates LnE 5 stars but Youfoodz only 3 when IMO variety is rather similar. Delivery, again LnE 5 stars and Youfoodz 4 yet LnE you can only have delivery on one day of the week and can't choose which day yet Youfoodz you can have it any day you want it. It looks very biased to me.

That said I stopped using Youfoodz because the quality of the meals and amount of protein in them dropped. I might try them again at $6 to see if they've picked up again.

      • L&E can only be eaten for so long. I did a few months and could never look at another one of their meals again and I went through everything. Prefer to eat supermarket "healthy" frozen meals instead.

        • Yeah but I think that's the same with any of them. LnE rarely make changes to their menu, like 1 or 2 new dishes in 5 years. Same would happen with the meals at Colesworth if you eat only them for an extended period. I only use these for convenience. eg I just ordered this YF deal but that 9 meals will last me at least 2 if not 3 weeks because I'll have other meals in there. I did the same thing when using LnE. You need variety.

          • @apsilon: Usually the yf meals dates are like 10-12 days. How do they last 3 weeks for you?

            • @cloudy: Just microwave for an extra 30 seconds when you dip into the third week.

            • @cloudy: You can freeze them if you're not going to use them all.

    • Those Canstar ratings are bizzare, not sure how they've "averaged" the scores but I'd take them with a grain of salt (pun intended)

Youfoodz gets 3 stars when the only category it got a 3 in was variety (the rest 4)

      • +1

        Yeah, it’s bull crap.

They mustn’t have paid the review mafia their shakedown money

  • +4

Sure it's OK, compared to their normal price.

Aldis frozen Pad Thai is $4 and better tasting than most Youfoodz meals in my opinion.

  • +1

Hey guys. Is there any other similar service to youfoodz that doesn't contain as much sodium on their dishes?
My bp spiked after eating youfoodz.

  • +1

Thanks. Not sure why I don't get the same emails. All my emails are 9 for $69. This has been good lately. 9 for $59 or better gives me perfect amount for a fortnight working away.

    • +8

The cost per meal is probably less than $1

Lol. Can you send refrigerated meals that contain meat delivered to someone's door with consistent quality for $1 per meal?

      only in it for profit

Well that's how businesses work. But in this case, the margins are actually low and their share price has halved recently.

why anyone would buy youfoodz is beyond me

It's decent value versus time wasted in buying and cooking a meal yourself.

    • +8

      the food tastes horrible

Fair enough, but this is a matter of taste.

      racist owners

The girlfriend of the owner was the one who made the racist remarks. Despite the news articles shifting this onto the owner, I've watched the video countless times (because of all the comments here) and actually cannot see him in it at all. There's no evidence he was actually there. Even if he was, then saying that he and his company is somehow responsible for his girlfriend's comments seem to be a pretty big stretch.

      only in it for profit

Would you go to work every day if you weren't paid to do so? Honest question.

FWIW, I don't even particularly like or care about YF, but your criticisms of them are pretty patently ridiculous.

    • +6

      racist owners

The owner's girlfriend in 2019 was pissed and acted like a fool. Is he even with her anymore? Who cares. It's irrelevant to youfoodz and ozbargain.

      • -1

Still relevant in 2021. Many are still traumatised and hurt from the contraversy.

        • +3

Who is traumatised? I’m guessing at an absolute maximum … none.

    • Which business isn’t in it for profit?

  • +2

MyMuscleChef is much better than youfoodz

    • +2

It looks a lot more expensive.

      • -4

I've tried them both. I've rather pay $8ish for MyMuscleChef which has meals that actually tastes nice and not cancerous versus the airplane-level, salty, artificial-tasting mediocrity that is Youfoodz.

        • +1

          How is youfoodz cancerous?

        • +1

It looks a lot more difficult to come by vouchers to achieve your $8 per meal claim.

The meal photos also look pretty similar between both services.

But ok, fair enough. If you want to wait for the sparse voucher and pay 25% more, then good for you. But as the price creeps to $8 or over, then the value proposition of this versus proper takeout seems less appealing.

        • +10

Can you please post on ozbargain the $8 muscle chef code. Thanks

        • +2

Can you post the code for $8 meals?

          • +2

@TightTerry: When your total is >99 you get free shipping, use welcome20 to take $20 off. I got 10 meals for 79.75 then checked via shopback for additional 15%
coming to 68.87 (sb dont pay out on gst)

…suddenly yf deal dosent seem all that great in comparison now.

            • @txb: Plus every month MyMuscleChef usually has a $15 off code - JAN15, FEB15 etc
Can only be used once per month

              • +1

@krayl: I think they just recently stopped this unfortunately :(

                • @JHoliday: Ah that's a shame.
I have been buying MMC from my local supermarket rather than direct lately for convenience. This costs $9 to $10 per meal.

            • +1

              @txb:

…suddenly yf deal dosent seem all that great in comparison now.

Isn't welcome20 for first order only? It didnt work for me a second time. Plus yf can be used with CR and SB too, in fact I hadn't used my code yet, but given CR has $3 bonus cashback my 9 meals will cost less than $50 lol.

So your unobtainable $6.89 meal is still kinda expensive compared to my sub $5.50.

    • Their quality tanked so much, I can’t stomach their food any more. And I have quite low standards tbh. Just my opinion.

  • +4

As mentioned, you can get 9 'big' meals for $64 if you want the bigger portions.

    • I recommend this. Extra $1 is worth it for how much more you get imo.

      • I get the large ones if available in the meal that I want but just be careful as if it had veges, my feeling is that it is considerably more veges to meat ratio. All in all, pretty good though for $1 extra. I'm not complaining.

    • What is the difference?

      • +1

$1 extra is approx 30% extra portion size.

    • How do you get this? When I add 9 large meals and apply the code it comes to $73?

      • Oh wait never mind I think it's because I was testing it on an $11.95 meal

  • +2

4.2% back from Cashrewards if you use the code

    • vs 15% on shopback

      • Nah look closet if you use the code it reverts to 4%

  • Why does it say $69 has it expired already?

  • -8

    Does it come with racism?

    • -4

all the negative voters, are u racist? The founders are racist.

      • The founders girlfriend, unsure if she is still the girlfriend.

      • +5

If you see racism everywhere, it means you are racist

      • +4

We are adults who can make up our own minds and are sick of seeing these mindless racist finger pointing comments. Its condescending.

  • +2

Youfoodz comments on OzB are pretty much click bait at this stage, I give up.

  • Thanks OP! Ordered the fat bastard versions for $1 more per serve

  • +1

If you live in a unit the delivery people DO NOT always deliver to your unit door. They only delivered to my door 2 out of 4 times.
I had a box stolen once because it was left downstairs even though I had left a note deliver to door. My building isn't secured so that's no excuse.

  • +1

Really bad nutrition btw. Very little greens in these things and high sodium

    • Most of them full of broccoli.

      • +1

        3 pieces?

        • Way more than 3. Too much for my liking.

      • LOL. When I said to my wife that I had ordered youfoodz she said “enjoy your under cooked broccoli”.

I’m learning and didn’t order any meals with broccoli this time.

        • Yea, I only get one or two.

  • Cool, thanks!

Just moved into a new place, first homers, struggling with meals (by far the most stressful thing about moving out tbh).

At $5.87 per meal after cashback, can't complain!

  • I am not a big eater but I need two YouFoodz to feel full
