    Who buys caged eggs?

    • +8

Who watches the Melbourne Cup / greyhound races?

      • +1

My Neigh-bours watch the Melbourne cup Greyhound races are a bit ruff.

      • People of low moral /ethical standards, I'm guessing?

        • -5

That's BS. If it's of low moral/ethical standard, get the government to ban it.

          • +2

@RSmith: You don't honestly think that's how government works, do you?

            • @jetblack: Actually I don't. But you can definitely make some noise about it…

    • +1

      Eggcentric people

    • +7

      Who drives petrol cars?

    • Mustn't be many now if they're selling at $0.13c/egg

    • +14

People who don't have extra money but still want to feed their family a nutritional meal.

      • Whilst i appreciate you comment i disagree.
I have a severely limited income and still manage to make some fundamentally ethical choices without incurring a significant financial burden.
This shouldn't be taken out on the livestock.
One of your downvotes will be me, I don't believe in downvote anonymity.

Thanks for being upfront about the downvote. Appreciate your honesty.

@RSmith: Actually was in middle of an edit.., but you posted and not it won't allow an edit…

::edit:: Actually, change of heart, your comment was honest and not entirely unresonable, not worthy of a downvote.
            Removing downvote to neutral.

            • @virtual81: All good mate. We all learn from each other.

          • @RSmith: People need to remember there are other real people behind screen names.
            Have a top evening.

      Cage eggs taste the best

      • ::*edgy*::

    • I only buy caged eggs.

  • +3

Cage eggs are cheap for a reason.
It comes at the cost of the chicken's life quality…

    • +6

free range aren't much better, they let chickens out for 1-2hrs per day on the factory floor and not even outside but they still call it free range chicken.

      • +5

You are correct that the free range standards adopted by the government fall short of what you would expect when you hear "free range". The CSIRO has their own (voluntary) standard which is much better, with a maximum stocking density of 1500 chooks per hectare (instead of 10,000). I usually buy Sunny Queen Free Range from Coles, but there are other brands that adhere to the CSIRO recommendations: https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/meat-fish-and-eggs/…

        • +1

Damn, I didn't know about the 1500 voluntary standard, been getting free range ww and coles for years. I'm just going to switch to sunnyqueen, I do love how there are smiley faces on the eggs.

      • +2

If I was in a cage, I’d rather get let out in side for 1-2 hours per day rather than not at all for the entirety of my life.

But I’ll always pay extra for RSPCA Approved to support better standards.

        • +1

Reason for the vote downs? Easier to just vote down than justify your terrible opinion?

    • -2

Cage eggs are better for the chicken as they don't have to exercise and serve a purpose in life

  • +3

    Negging for caged eggs

  • +3

    caged eggs no deal

  • +5

    caged eggs no deal.

  • +4

Having worked in both caged and free range chicken farms you would be suprised at how not free "free range" is

    • Its not just about space, but ability to express natural behaviours like scratching dirt, stretching wings, escaping attacks etc. having spent time in jail and being sued for ten years for rescuing these poor birds, I know how they feel lol. Its a dirty industry that stops at nothing to hide the truth!

      • If only, that was the only industry. They all want to squeeze the last drop out of people, and they let them.

  • -3

    Love the quality of society.
Someone negs for caged eggs, they get negged for their quite reasonable stance.
I'm going to neg for caged eggs too.
Go ahead and neg me you low lives.

    • +5

It's better to get negged than get egged

  • If people negging the deal are meat eaters, than the hypocrisy is out in the open.

    • +2

Animals eating other animals is natural.

Keeping an animal in a cage with no room to move its entire life is disgusting.

      • It's only natural if the animals are not farmed.

        • +2

Farming is a skill we as an animal developed due to our intelligence that we gained through natural evolution.

We also evolved to have compassion for other each other and others creatures so we do things ethically…well some of us did.

          • @PainToad: You can sugarcoat as much as you like, but the reality is always a bit different from the ideal case scenarios.

  • meh neg'ers votes are invalid unless they're
a true vegan or have their own hens. the rest of you are hypocrites.

unless you know where the chooks are and how they are kept, you're kidding yourself that most "free range" eggs are better for you or the chooks.

Commercial hens, when they stop laying, they get slain.

    • Ever heard of third party accreditation lol. Sheesh

      • +3

        yep, it's BS.

  • +1

My eggs come from three pampered chooks called Ethel, Myrtle and Doris. Once you’ve seen how chooks love to scratch for bugs and dust bath it’s hard to think of them squashed in cages. I know not everyone can keep their own chooks but I’m glad people are considering their welfare when choosing commercial eggs.

  • +2

180 eggs. 180 tortured birds each spend 24 hours in a cage to sell for just $24.

  • +5

'cant afford free-range eggs' give me a break, the classic from people with thousands worth of tattoos and a council bin overflowing with fast food wrappers and premix bourbon cans

    • +1

Don’t forget the latest iPhone and a PS5 for the 10 kids.

  • +1

Cage eggs should be banned, as a country that's not poor, we can do better.

  • +1

Good to see all the negs on a cruel product like caged eggs. I was one of the early people decades ago that went in and filmed these disgusting places. If you want to buy caged eggs, go visit a “farm” first, they wont let you in for good reason. You would never buy their product again at any price!

    • Did you also visit a slaughterhouse? Do you eat meat?

      • Yes, many. Vegetarian for 45years now

  • I wish I wasn't brought up with these farms being okay
