Any thoughts on the charmate 57 cm it's selling for 163 for first members https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/charmate-57cm-kettle-bbq-charma…

    • +1

It actually looks quite good - it seems they have adopted some Weber approaches for attaching fittings, the grates look similar too. For the current price difference I would still prefer to pay extra few bucks for Weber, but otherwise it worth to consider IMO ( My opinion is based on the pictures, I haven't had any experience with the brand)

Thanks OP - I own three kettles, a go anywhere and a Q2200 but couldn't pass this up. My wife will be upset.

    • +2

What are you going to do with 4 kettles? 😁
As an excuse you can tell her that you can sell this one for $50 more the same day.

      • +1

One I keep at my parent's place for family cookups, and I regularly use the two at home at the same time. This is probably an official 'one kettle too many', but I always wanted one with an ash catcher and I can move on one of the old ones.
4 sounds like a lot but i know guys with 15+

  • Says $50 shipping to my postcode with the 14 day free trial in my cart… do I have to do something extra to trigger the free shipping or is it just not valid in my postcode (not really regional…)

Edit: my postcode not eligible apparently…
    Edit 2: that's pretty lame

  • got one using kogan gift card @ suncorp app for a further 6% off and a 2% cashreward.. hopefully if it gets tracked and kogan first trial for free delivery..

if it all works as expected final price would be approx. $200.. nevertheless great price..

was looking at buying $249 kamado junior from bunnings… wouldve happily paid $217 for this…

    Thanks

    • I bought and paid using Suncorp gift cards but totally forgot about CR!

  • It looks to be on back order now - ships on 21st April.

    • Still better than paying 439 local price

  • OzBargained….

  • How's this $119 one from Billabong, compared to the Weber one?

    https://www.barbequesgalore.com.au/billabong-kettle

    • +1

You're comparing a crap Billabong to a Weber? Really?

See other comments on why a Weber costs more. If the Billabong is anything like the Mitre10 branded kettle I got given and they look the same. It'll start chipping after 2 BBQs and rust within a year.

      • i rate billabong!!

…..on the same level as Jumbuck

  • Just missed it.. argggh

Anyone recommend a cover for this? Will the Bunnings ones do the job as well as the genuine covers?

    • +3

I’ve had several covers over the years, the weber ones always fray in the weather, my new one is is great, it is King Kong brand from USA off amazon prime, ended up buying one for the trolley bbq as well.

Kingkong 7149 Premium Grill Cover for Weber Charcoal Grills.

        thanks for this!

  • Which one is better: Weber Premium Kettle or Acorn Junior Kamado (https://www.bunnings.com.au/char-griller-akorn-junior-kamado…)?

    • +1

pretty significant size difference between those two units
      14" v 22" diameter cooking surface area
      Not really comparable

      • +1

also the kamados is different style of cooking compared to kettle

the main benefit to kamado is the Heat Retention.
Ceramic provides such strong insulation that almost all of a kamado's heat is captured and used to cook your food before exiting the grill.

down size….generally smaller in cooking surface and heavy
if you want same cooking size, you pay for it…and the price for the bigger kamados go exponentially up

        • +1

The char griller Kamado isn't ceramic. It's insulated steel
          Same principle

  • Anyone had their order dispatched yet? Mine was ordered on 13th, expected to dispatch on 14th now its running late.

    • +1

I got a shipping notification last night.

    • +1

Mine was dispatched last night as well.

    • I am in the same boat as you, I followed up with Kogan last night and got the following response

“ After following up on your order, I can confirm that there has been a delay in receiving the stock to our warehouse.

However, I have been informed that your Weber Premium Kettle 22" Charcoal BBQ Barbeque Smoker Grill Griller is now expected to be dispatched on the 2nd of June.”

      • +1

For that price, it's worth the wait. Have already used mine thrice since getting it

      • I was lucky and got a dispatch notification the day after my post for the one I ordered for my self, but the second one I ordered for a mate a couple of minutes later is still stuck in "processing in warehouse".

  • My 5 year old one started to rust on the stainless steel grill. Considering trying cast iron instead? Anyone got experience with that? Apparently have to season etc. which can be a pain but it will get hotter for grill lines and it's more non-stick if seasoned properly?

  • Just received. On the box says made in USA incorporating globally sourced component parts.

    • +1

same here. But that was known though, some of the items are made in China, while some are in the USA.
Does it really matter if the handle is made in China or Mexico?
All I care is about the main components.

      • Yeah I don't care too. Looks pretty solid most of it.

  • Fired the BBQ for the first time last night.
Can't believe I've waited so long to get one, such a major difference between any other kettle and the Weber.
love how I can hang the lid on the side of the bowl, such a simple yet elegant solution. And When you close off the airways, it completely shuts any air. Other cheap Kettles, they don't fully shut the airways and you've got the charcoal still burning. Weber completely shuts the airways, allowing you to reuse the charcoal if there is still left over.

  • Damn that I missed.

Anyone know how often will Kogan have a shipment like this coming?

  • +1

Anyone who's received and assembled theirs notice that they were missing the 'tool' to assemble the handle screw and instead received an extra wheel lock-nut? Surprised to see that oversight but far from a dealbreaker considering the price. This will be a great addition to the Weber Q on the deck and looking at getting the King Kong outdoor cover that was linked by someone a bit earlier in the comments(Went and checked out the generic brand Bunnings covers but they felt really thin and cheap).

Currently smoking some pork shoulder for some pulled pork…first time smoking in a Kettle and im impressed how stable the temps have been(coming from a cheapie vertical smoker which was an absolute nightmare to temper the heat).

  • I just noticed the official version for this comes with the 2x Charcoal holders but this one didnt.. anyone have any thoughts about why that is?
    https://www.weber.com/AU/en/barbecues/charcoal-range/weber-k…

..and more premium wheels and more detailed ash catcher. I guess it is like with European cars - they are expensive to deliver and support, so mostly come in more premium configurations. It is some justification for a way higher price we pay here. As well it makes harder an apple-to-apples comparison.
