  • happy with my IONIQ, rather than waiting for tesla to delivery the car after 1 year and paying $20k more

  • Waiting for model y

    • +1

      Why?

      • +2

        Y not?

    • +1

I am also torn between Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance when its here. The difference in range is a bit much :(

  • I took one for a test drive a couple of months ago and the sales assistant adamantly dismissed my concerns of a price drop coinciding with the soon to be released model Y.

    • Model Y is still a year away from release here in Australia though isn't it?

      • +1

Doubt it, they are churning them out in China now, and they are the main supplier of Australian Model 3 (and presumably Y).

    • Sales assistants are there to help with a sale today. They're unlikely to have any more info on pricing strategy than the next person. The classic factors of increased competition - including their own Y release - should help bring the costs down over time but there are other variables such as currency variations and government (dis)incentives. The only known variable is that Tesla release dates are rarely met so if you're keen today, grab it. You'll wonder why you waited.

Do you take these to a motor mechanic or an electrician for a service?

    • +1

Just remove and insert the battery again and it will work fine.

Good price OP. Still waiting to be able to buy the Model Y, keep asking them when it will be available to order and they cannot tell me.

    • Stick with the EVO.

      • I went from Evo 8 to model 3. Missed Evo for one day.

    • Still waiting to be able to buy the Model Y

      Why?

  • can only wait for the model Y and hope that its cheaper…

  • +1

300+ up votes! You guys are rich.

    • its that jobseeker/jobkeeper payouts.

  • +1

Australian states other than ACT still charge rego and its freaking expensive, also last i checked a model 3 the cheapest insurance i could find was 3k per yr.

Most other developed countries are offering cheap /free rego and numerous tax breaks for EVs where Aussie politicians now have introduced 2.5c/km additional tax i think in SA and Victoria.. Its insane.

    • +1

Yeah, the dinosaurs in charge are either willfully ignorant or being compensated for making the path the electric vehicle ownership harder.

Either way - it doesn't reflect favourably.

    • Try NRMA and CommInsure, before even trying brokers

    • +1

new taxes will always come - petrol cars and fuel is heavily taxed and provides a nice little revenue, if electric cars become more popular the same will follow sooner or later
same as free Tesla charge - thats not a thing anymore

      • free Tesla charge

        Free Unlimited Supercharging?

It was kind of factored into the price though.

    • Insurance highly variable between age groups and postcodes. Mine was about 900/year.

    • Coal supporting mofos.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
    Just booked one.

  • Damn it if i won powerball last night, i bought 10

  • Much cheaper elsewhere in the world. Wait for the inevitable EV subsidies.

    • +3

Not happening unless there's a new goverment.

      • +4

Not happening unless some benovalent capitalist out-bribes murdoch/coal conglomerates.

  • +2

But when will we be getting the Cyber-truck??!!

  • +1

    Thanks, paid for with Dogecoin.
    Great timing

Give me a break lol. Tesla is far inferior to BMW and Mercedes why would you even compre it??

    • +2

Out of curiosity, which of the above cars and which model Tesla have you owned/driven to give your informed opinion?

      • It goes beyond those models in particular. The point is Deutschland ÜBER ALLES

    • +1

      Looooooooooooooooooool

      This still persists in 2021?

      • +1

Yes. German cars are still superior

        • LOL. Don't worry bro Merc are making an electric. It's 200k and Audi etron is about $150k. You have plenty of choices.

          • +1

@Naigrabzo: Their cars have always been top tier. Why would they make a cheap electric car at this point in time (if ever?)? My point is op was comparing manufacturers that are on completely different levels

            • @Nedkellyinthebush: Top tier in price. but not really top tier in anything else. They 'used' to be better than Japanese cars but no more.

Now they are simply more expensive for no good reason.

Merc and BMW don't need to make any electric cars or cheap ones.

They absolutely can be compared to a Tesla or even a Mazda/Lexus. The latter offer way better luxury, features and value. The former offers better price placebo for the owner.

Not only their expensive electrics be compared to everything else but also Tesla which happens to be most experienced in that space with phenomenal self drive capability. Mercs have babyish automation and updates compared to a Tesla.

You always compare to the gold standard when something new comes. The 'new' offerings from Merc and BMW are an absolute joke. Even Audi electric is such a disappointment!

  • Bitcoin accepted?

      Only Doge

    • Yes in US, other countries coming soon apparently.

      • Pretty tempting for around 60 of my 2013-vintage coins.

Chinese made Teslas, would give it a pass

    • +13

Chinese made iPhone, would you give it a pass? PLEASE.

      • A pass better than a fail I think what mikokik5 meant.

    • I could be wrong I don't think the performance (or even LR) version is made in China. The batteries they use in China have lower power density so can be used in SR+ but would not fit in the LR version. But my information can be outdated, so worth double-checking.

Edited: Not LR, only Performance version

    • It is the only MIC item I haven't seen any CCP hating posts.

At this price Elon might give complementary membership to CCP.

      • Everything is related to politics nowadays when talking about China.

        • +1

No just now days. China, you could have seen it coming.

How did they think Cold War containment of USSR lead to collapse of their communist regime. Suddenly 360 degree turn on China (because of economic greed) and now we got a problem on our hands because communists in China has too much money and power.

  • House deposit or Tesla? hmm…

    • +4

Tesla, with house prices lots of people will end up living in their cars. With a Tesla you can get to vacant spaces more quickly before some other car dweller gets the spot.

  • +3

Bought my last car (GR Yaris) thanks to an OzBargain deal in September 2020. Stop tempting me with these shiny new cars.

    • +1

Would you consider Model 3 to be an upgrade? Both cars are interesting in a different way.

      • +1

Received my GR Yaris a few weeks ago. Absolutely sensational car to drive.
I'm not ready just yet for an electric car.

  • +1

Finally a good use for my BTC

  • OOS? Can't add to cart anymore !

Where do you put the code for the free ElonFans sex doll? I can't work this site.

  • +4

All but the performance mode are made in Shanghai China now. Still a welcome price decrease.

    https://www.caradvice.com.au/916776/2021-tesla-model-3-austr….

    • +1

Highly probable the Performance will also come from Shanghai given the 6-10 delivery window being quoted.

      • Performance model was being quoted as a 12 week delivery back in January.
It's actually longer though - more like 16-18 weeks.

So yeah, if coming from Shanghai, you'd hope they could shave half of that off maybe.

  • +1

Great silent carriage for all them doge coins :)

  • Price seem to reflect AUD going back up from lower 60s cents during COVID shutdown.

  • +1

If Elon keeps pumping up Doge, I'll buy one.

  • +1

The build quality on those Tesla is just so inconsistent….i think these are now made in PRC.

    • +1

Delivery reports on YouTube from UK buyers report better quality. SR+ and LR

  • have a look at the linus video review. they're cool, but there are some comprimises

  • +2

Aren't these model 3s manufactured in China now?

    • +2

      Yes

  • +1

Even applies to existing orders as well which is pretty damn nice by Tesla to be fair.

  • +1

Is price cut due to Made In China Model 3 with different battery chemistry?

    • Only the SR+ has the new battery type whereas all variants received the price drop. So, probably just cheaper to manufacture and ship from China than Freemont. Plus volumes are increasing.

    • price cut has nothing to do with china

it's based on the AUD which was in the mid 60s the last time the price was set

these currency adjustments happen ever 6 months or so

      • Last price drop was in September 2020, AUD hardly moved since then.

  • +1

Tesla cars are made in China. I will wait for a Chinese brand electric car. I heard they are cheap but very good.

    • +1
      • woah,, i really like the look of that BYD car

btw if the Tesla SR3 is 508 km NEDC, after 8 years the range will drop to 355km, that would be still alright yeah

8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period. Model 3 Long Range Model 3 …

    • +1

Can’t wait for NIO cars, probably not happening soon.

  • bought 5 last week at RRP, what can I do?

    • +1

Order 5 more and take the other 5 back for a refund.

  • +3

    hooray!! high yield investment opportunity!

  • Use code ‘MONEYPIT’ for extra 10% off at checkout.

  • Better deal than a Hyundai Kona Electric, but that front….

  • Has this been ozbargained?

  • +1

Bought an SR+ last year after the last price drop. Best thing I ever did. Don't mind the repayments as long as the "fuel" comes from my roof.

    • how big of a solar system do you need and how long does it take to charge from solar?

      • Would take about 8 hours to full charge even with fairly fast home charging.

  • +1

Will Telsa be the new Enelopes.

  • -6

These cars are pretty much a gimmick. Test drove one in Sydney and the experience wasn't too pleasant. The car promises you the world but only apparently delivers a fraction of it. For example the autonomous drive functionality only works for straight roads with traffic lights. The car cannot go left or right and more over sometimes it will NOT pick up the traffic lights at all and will continue to accelerate through even red. I was told by Tesla that the car needs more software updates which is currently in BETA in the USA before it can have full autonomy and functionality. Price wise the car appears to be a good deal but apart from branding in my opinion they don't even belong on the same boat as C63 and M3. Then again people who have strong opinions and fasciations about electric cars will argue otherwise.

    • +6

You're talking about Full Self-Driving (FSD) which is an optional extra purchase and is currently early in development. It's true it doesn't have all it's features but you also don't have to buy it - so I don't see how that is relevant for the purposes of a review.

      • +2

You're a fool if you think FSD is actually 'full self driving'. Max level 2 so it's a total marketing name https://www.thedrive.com/tech/39647/tesla-admits-current-ful…

        • +5

It would be equally foolish to assume it will stay the same and not improve with constant iteration.

Check youtube FSD beta for videos of a current build. Not fully released to public yet but this is a demonstration of capability.

        • +1

'FSD' is the marketing term for a suite of technologies. The (big) missing feature is "Autosteer on city streets" which is currently in beta with hundreds of people and expending pretty quickly.

Nobody has bought FSD thinking their car can drive itself unless they have the IQ of a gnat.

You can buy it or not, so why bitch about it? Just don't if you don't like it.

          • +2

@apiecost: I will sell you some magic beans. They aren't magic yet and i just use 'magic' for the name - but we have a plan to make them magic and you should totally buy them now before we raise the prices on them.

The reality is that FSD isn't full self driving and may never be. You're buying something and hoping for it to happen.

I'd totally buy a tesla (Model Y if available), I just wouldn't get the FSD right now as it seems like a money pit with no real timeline on its release and exactness of its feature set.

As someone who's studied machine learning, i can tell you it's a really hard problem and again you'd be a fool to just drop your money on something unproven.

            • @eddyah: Again, buy it or not, why complain about it? Nobody is making you do anything. It's an unfinished set of features - I don't get why armchair "experts" need to point out that it's unfinished (… DUH!)

I don't have FSD, however the standard autopilot features are brilliant already. Not sure why are you schooling me on what I should or shouldn't buy.
