    Sony WF1000XM3B - $134.80

    • +1

Damn they're getting cheaper and cheaper. Should post as its own deal. Better value than the recent buds live (for those who find in ear uncomfortable)

    • +4

They're dirt cheap now, I've bought these as seconds/refurbs and if they were used you'd never know it.

      • do they creak at all ? Im wondering if they use new shells. my new XM3's started creaking 7 months in but I refunded them just before warranty expired.

        • I got some MX4's from the deal the other day. They don't creak. They have no visible wear, everything was perfectly clean. The only thing that suggested that it was a refurb was the the box was sealed with tape and it looked like all the parts cables etc had been taken out and then coiled up and put back in. No Scuffs, no damage, nothing.

        • No creaking at all, I've had them for a year now and they're still like new.

  • +3

No post to New Zealand 😥

    • +1

Surely you have a family member who's living over here who can post them to you.

    • Hey mate, I'd be happy to post them to you

      • Thank you for the offer! Going to hold off for now and keep the wallet $200+ healthier.

  • has anyone purchased refurbished goods from Sony before? Will this be worth the cash, or am i buying someone's broken product?

    • +3

They have the standard warranty, most people seem to report they're basically as-new condition.

    • +1

      My comment above.

    • +3

I got these a month ago and they've been great. New condition that I can tell and comes with 12 month Sony warranty. I've had to replace a phone via JB Hi Fi and that was a nightmare but I'd expect headphones to be a bit more straighforward.

I've bought a previous pair of BT headphones that was "box damaged" and they were fine too.

    • +1

Sony warranty process is nightmare. It's been taking 2 months+ to get it sorted and every time I contact them they say "it's escalated to the management for either refund or replace"

      • +3

yea but that would be with a new pair too.

        • replace with another refurbed lol

    • +3

      Refurb could mean:
      - Used previously (i.e. preloved) on dirty ears before by someone. Sony simply replaced the ear muffs (or cleaned the ear muffs without replacing them)
      - or the box was scratched but the headset inside was never used previously.

      • May also have cosmetic mark/scratches too.

      • +1

Dirty ears? Don’t you take shower? Why you would assume dirty ears?
I would say it’s most likely cleaner than some restaurants kitchen.

        • I would say it’s most likely cleaner than some restaurants kitchen.

          I wouldn't bet on that…

      • During the last deal, I bought two pairs of the WH XM4's and one pair of the WF XM3's - all three items were in as-new condition.

        Boxes were a little damaged..

    • +1

Got one from the sale last week, the headphone is fine, but the case got a big oil stain on it…

      • +2

Not the worst case scenario, but having been spoiled by Apple refurb quality, this can be a bit of unpleasant experience…

        • +2

If that was an intentional pun, amazing, if it wasn't, amazing

          • +1

@mrcatman1: Sorry I re-read my comment 3 times and still can’t find the pun. Care to point it out?😂

            • +1

@Max999: “the case has a big oil stain on it…”

              “Not the worst case scenario….”

              How about now?

    • I got mine delivered yesterday. Bought it for $250 last week. The box had been opened at some point (I got my box stuck together with tape) but the headphones looked unused. all the cables were tied in original sleeves.

    • I bought a refurb WH1000XM3 from Sony's ebay site early last year for ~$250

Received everything in an undamaged box, no scuff marks or visible scratches and stuff - couldn't be happier with it. I imagine this should be in the same condition.

    • +4

I bought one refurbished WH1000XM3 last Nov, it started to have static noise on left ear after one month. Sony ebay refused to replace it since it's over one month.
I went to Sony for repair and they also refused to repair it because they said the service centre could not find the problem. I found it is actully a known issue for this model and people got rejected by Sony bacuese they just could not "reproduce the issue".

So I would not recommend buying these refurbished goods from Sony, they are very likely the returned products from stores because of these issues.

      • Mine had the same static issue in the left ear cup as well.. But I contacted them straight away as it was happening after the first few hours.. They were going to replace it.. But it suddenly went away and never came back again.
I've put around 100hrs on since and it hasn't come back again.

    • I got some in the deal a week or so ago. Mine seem to be in completely new condition. They look like they were taken out of the box, then put back in a sealed up again.

    • +2

I did and I'll never do it again. Mine were faulty and the communication and refund process was like pulling teeth. These people are not good to deal with when things go wrong. Buy locally, support a local business and you'll have a face you can speak to if required.

  • Is 3% at Suncorp the best currently for eBay? Will probably get these headphones

    • +2

Shopback have 5% swap gift cards can be used for ebay

  • I bought the XM3's last week for $190. Trying to decide if I should return them for 'change of mine' and get these instead. Would I be stung with any fees?

    • Cool where did you score those at that price?

$197. The touch control on XM3 are not sensitive enough.

        • +1

The touch on the MX4 doesn't seem any better. It detects swipes to change volume and skip tracks, but tapping to play/pause takes about three goes. I wish the'd just used a physical button.

          • +1

@macrocephalic: Happy to admit my stupidity - I didn't read the instructions; you're meant to quickly double-tap to play/pause. I have no issues with it now.

          • @macrocephalic: Same. I went from my beloved Sony MDR-ZX770BN headphones, which have physical buttons, to an XM4. I can use the gestures, but I miss the physical buttons. They were more responsive.

    • I prefer the XM3s over the XM4s, having used both extensively.

      • XM3s also available for $186.15. Thinking of going for them over the XM4s unless there is a good reason not to? I am on a budget and use an Android phone which apparently the XM3s are more suited to because of codecs?

  • +1

I got my XM4's from the stacked goodguys deal last week.

Don't get them if you intend to use the Multi-point functionality with MS Teams on PC, its rubbish and near unusable. Even with the Headset profile enabled its too laggy.

Its fine if you use it in isolation though.

  • I bought a refurbished Sony A7 camera a few years ago. When it arrived it looked absolutely brand new and untouched. Was pretty happy.

I also bought a refurb WH1000XM2. It too looked new and unused.

  • Thanks, grabbed a set. I work in a noisy room with lots of servers, hoping this will improve things!

    • Mate I was using a loud wet and dry vac to clean my car on the weekend. It was right next to me and I couldn't hear a thing. It was a weird experience.

      • +2

are you sure ur vacuum cleaner is working :p

        • +1

My clean car interior suggests that the vac was working.

          • +1

@lucyrenegade: JK. Was using surface headphones 2 and NC is crap. now just trying to decide if i should buy this or a new one for $320ish

            • @hopper: my XM3s were virtually brand new. I couldn't see any signs of use. The only giveaway was the seal and the 'seconds' sticker.

    • Yeah ANC is good for cutting out repetitive droning noise. They won't cut out voices etc [any more than a normal closed back headphone].

  • so, can we get XM3 with same code for $186 ?

    • It seems like it. Those are the ones I'm going for.

  • +1

I bought WH1000XM4 more than a month ago, it is almost new except the box was taping with packing tape. It is still good for me. However, there is an issue with the Bluetooth connection. It will disconnect after using about 10 - 15mins. I tried to liaise with the people on Sony eBay, but they are hopeless. I even tried to reset, upgrade the software but the issue still exists. Just realised that it is just wasting my time, I decided to return and get the refund.

I bought quite a few of the second products from Sony eBay, everything working really well, except this WH1000XM4.

  • Cheers OP

Buy the eBay giftcards on Shopback for further discounts.

  • XM3s also available for $186.15. Thinking of going for them over the XM4s unless there is a good reason not to? I am on a budget and use an Android phone which apparently the XM3s are more suited to because of codecs?

    • XM4 apparently is better for phone calls, but yeah, it's a nearly $50 saving, so the XM3 seems a steal at that price.

    • XM4 have a smart CPU that allows for constant monitoring of ambient noise so the NC works more like a realtime feature. Not saying it'll make a huge amount of difference but it is better

  • Do these still have the headband cracking problem?

  • Just a thought - if Sony has been selling so many seconds/refurb's, does it mean that its quality / reliability is pretty bad? Else where would they gather so many seconds/refurb's to sell us?

    • A lot of shops plus Amazon allow for change of mind returns within 30 days, so there doesn't have to be anything wrong with them

*Keep in mind though Sony Ebay don't allow change of mind returns at all

    • It could also be that they are selling new products as "refurbs" at a more affordable price so as to not reduce the perceived value of their product and brand.

  • Got mine today (XM4). Had a few specks of dust inside but no scratches or anything. The box has definitely been opened previously. So far everything works fine (fingers crossed).

    • So.. The bluetooth connection drops after about 30 minutes. After that you cannot connect any devices to the headphones unless you restart it. Pretty much the same scenario explained here. I asked for the headphones to be returned.

      • +1

what is your bluetooth adaptor ? is it a cheap generic brand one ?
I have another brand bluetooth headphone and same keeps happening to me (like after 10mins idle, seems be the sleep time) then had to restart headphone to get it connected. I bought an Edimax EW-7611ULB bluetooth adaptor and it fixed that issue. Now everything works perfectly!
        similar response in your thread

did you try "turn ON DSEE Extreme" ?

        • I'm using them on my office laptop, which is the device I intend to use it the most with. Turning on DSEE seemed to have stopped it, but if that's the case I reckon these headphones are faulty. I'm going to try it again without DSEE on my other computer to see how it goes.

      • I got mine too. Similar issue. My ears were not comfortable afrer wearing for half hour. I also asked to return.

      • I will wait for mx5 maybe.

        • I will wait for mx5 maybe.

Random question, are you a hairdresser?

  • Received the headphones. There is a clear difference between these and a brand new pair. The sound of the seconds pair is muddy, missing detail in the mid-range, treble and overall a disappointment. Not worth the saving and I have started a return claim.

  • Got mine yesterday, very disappointed. Left side cut out completely twice, would crackle when touched then all sound cut out. As soon as it happened a second time took them off and started the claim process. Coming from a pair of QC35's these were not very comfortable either. If they didn't cut out I would keep them but will be buying a pair of NEW QC35 ii instead.

    • It really cheapens the Sony brand when they try to palm off faulty goods on eBay.
