      • I haven't looked into the specifics of this model but it might be worth checking if it uses the app and other people as a network- I know some "find me" devices use other user's phones to search also.

        • +1

All the Tile models use other people's devices as a "find me" network.

          • @robinCTS: Yep, thought that might be the case, in that case it's probably a decent solution, not as good as a dedicated solution but better than nothing

          • @robinCTS: If they also have the tile app.

            • @entropysbane: Of course. I'm pretty sure CheeseBeans knew that. As well as most other people reading the comment.

I suppose I could have included that info for the few who didn't, though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • +3

Bugger. I'd need 6km for my girls

        • See robin's comment, if in range it uses other phones with Tile

          • -1

            @CheeseBeans: So nobody basically.

            • @Daabido: Yeah the coming Apple product is probably a better choice.

            • +1

@Daabido: As I said in another post above, there's 1555 Tile users in a 10km radius of me right now. In the middle of nowhere you might be out of luck but in a metro area I think you'd be OK.

        • Staffies?

Would be useless for our escape artist dog too given we’re on 5 acres, my driveway is 120m long by itself, nearest neighbours probably equally as far and behind we are surrounded by bush.

          Probably alright for suburbia

    • +1

There was a waterproof version they sold, not sure if it's still available. I've used it on a pet collar and it works well. The only downside is its sealed so you cant change the battery. Lasts a year or so from memory.

      • +2

Na stuff that then. If I can't reuse it after a year then I will pass

      • +1

Tile Sticker and Tile Slim are waterproof. Battery lasts 3 years. Once it dies you can trade that in for a discount on new ones.

      • this one says replaceable battery

        • But not waterproof

          • @cute as duck: I'm not planning to go into pool or beach with this in my hand mate..lol
Your point is valid though :(

    • would bluetooth range long enough?

      • You don't need to be in range, just someone with the Tile app needs to be.

        • This is not as easy as finding someone with an iphone.

    • +1

tried it. Took it off as soon as dog took his first drink and dunked it.

  • Like most of these codes they are not unique so can be reused!

  • +2

As someone who always knows where my keys are, is there any common use for this that might make it useful? The price is very tempting but I'm worried that I just won't be able to find a good purpose for it.

    • +4

I attached one onto my keys, as I have never lost my keys in public, but have sat my keys in a weird spot at home and lost them there a few times. Now, since I've had one, I haven't needed to use it, but it's nice to have.

    • +2

You are obviously a very very young person to never have lost/misplaced anything. Give it time lol.

    • I used one in my wallet (though the Mate it isn't as thin as the regular one iirc) and another for my (compact/foldable) backpack for gym.

    • Keys, Wallet, wife's wallet, wife's keys.

      • +5

        You forgot "wife" 😉

      • +2

        People still use wallets?

    • +1

i always know where my key is cos once i am home i left it at the same place,

but i often use this to find my phone lol.

    • If this is the same as the Tile Pro it has a button on it that you can press that will make your phone ring, even if it's on silent!

Probably not much use for you though as you don't seem like the sort of person that would misplace their phone :)

      • Not sure if it's common knowledge but for Google Home owners, you can ask it to ring your phone. Obvious caveat is it's only useful for around the home :p

I've found that to be much more reliable than pressing the Tile button.

    • +1

I used to use them on my drones for when they went down in bush. Quite often you can get close to it and still not spot it. In general though I found the Tiles fairly useless because no one else in my area seems to use them. I'll be giving Airtags a go.

      • Apparently they're bringing out a new version/model this year with Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology that gives far greater precision and range!

    • +2

I put the tag in my backpack / favourite jacket etc. It warns you when you've left something behind, and easily allows you to find it.

For me it ensures peace of mind without having to check my backpack is still around if I leave it in the corner of a public area etc.

You could attach it to your keys but I don't find that useful as I don't often misplace them, and the tag is a little bulky.

Think of it as "Find my phone" but it supports non-tech things that can hold it.

    • Car keys. My wife loses her car keys 2 times a week, somewhere around the house. I've tried all the different key storage ideas, she still forgets to use them. This means that we don't waste 15 minutes looking for keys several times a week.

      • You need a kind of box at the entrance, and a wife who learns that she should drop the keys in the box. It's more about routine and getting used to it. After a few weeks, that's automatic.

        • +1

unfortunately some spouses can't be 'trained' unless they themselves think it's a habit worth implementing.

I know someone who's installed a widget on his iphone to ping his wife's samsung phone - also super handy when she's out of the house and doesn't pick up her phone cos it's on silent.

    • I use the Tile on my keys to find my iphone a lot. (Press tile button twice and it plays a loud tune on the phone, regardless of phone volume setting) .

I've tied to the kids at music festival, but didn't loose any unfortunately so mrs still thinks it's a waste of money. It did let me relax a bit more though.

      • I've tied to the kids at music festival, but didn't loose any unfortunately so mrs still thinks it's a waste of money.

        Had to read this twice.

      • I use "ok google, find my phone" a lot lately…sigh…sign of ageing I guess…

      • +1

        LOL

That's like paying for car insurance and hoping someone hits your car each year.

    • It also allows you to find your phone with a double tap of the button. Useful for the forgetful or people with little terrors who like to use parents phone…

  • +1

I'm notorious for my wallet falling out of my pocket (don't ask ….). 2nd to last time it happened (and fortunately i worked out where it was) I got a tile. Last time it happened (at a sporting stadium!), was easy to confirm where it was …..

Thank you darling, I have bought one to put on my Chihuahua's collar. She likes to hide in the garden and I am hopeful I can find her when she does this. God bless.

    • +1

Make sure you don't set the volume to ridiculous levels as it could really harm the pet (it's very loud as it's meant to be heard through a bag across a noisy room).

      • Thank you darling.

  • +2

When the time comes and travel becomes normal, these will be great to put in your checked in luggage. Did a recent trip and found that these can give you a peace of mind and let you know where your stuff is. Other uses are if you are sending an expensive item through post, you can put them in as an additional tracking measure. And of course, you can tag your keys with them, or even put one in your car, in case it gets stolen.

    • Better off getting an airtag then. Many countries have people who dont use tiles, but every country rich or poor has someone using an iphone.

  • +3

I put this on my stethoscope hoping to locate it if I leave it behind in different wards. But it was useless as it only works if I was in the same room. I tried to show this off in front of a bunch of nurses and they laughed at me. Felt I wasted money.

    • how did you try to show it off? lol

      • Showed off the tracker and said it will locate my stethoscope for sure but it only works in short distance. Someone then laughed out loud.

        • :'-(

          • @capslock janitor: Yeah I used it for this kind of thing too. Lost some forceps, phone app took me to recovery, found them inside a patient. I don't use them any more - too embarrassment.

            • @jez:

forceps, phone app took me to recovery, found them inside a patient. I don't use them any more - too embarrassment.

              Umm what !? HAHAHAHAHA ..

Entire forcep or just the tracker bit?

or you're pullin my leg right???

    • This thread is the funniest shit I've read all week !!

  • +1

Cheaper than the apple keyring accessory needed for an airtag.

    • Strange definition of 'needed'.

      • +2

The apple's tracker doesn't have a loop or anything, you need an accessory to use it eg. with a key ring.

        • If you want to use it on a keyring sure you need something, but you still don't 'need' Apple's version.

      • -1

The keyring accessory is needed, not necessarily the apple one obviously.

But you already knew that I'm sure.

        • Again, only if you want to use it on a keyring.

So it's pretty disingenuous to say it's cheaper than the 'needed' accessory. They'll be alternatives available for cents, IF you even use it for keys.

          • -1

            @[Deactivated]: Disingenuous?

Because I didn’t state the keyring accessory is only needed if you want to use it as a keyring?

            crazy talk.

            • @watts: You don't need to pay that even if you do. Still doing it.

              • @[Deactivated]: Ah, I see. Its disingenuous because I didn't state there's cheaper options that genuine Apple accessories?

  • Thanks , got one for my wife who is always looking for her car keys :D

  • +2

Got one for someone whos always looking for their phone - the one shortfall of the airtag.

    • That's where they sell you the Apple Watch.. :o

      • +2

I reckon if I gave this person an Apple Watch they’d lose it too 😂

        • Then tag their watch too 😆

    • If they have a computer then iCloud.com has a “find my” capability. Macs have the app natively too.

  • Lol how the mighty have fallen.

  • Our family has so many apple products around the home (3 appletvs, 2 MacBook pros, 1 imac, 1 iPad and 5 phones) so I'm quite the apple fan. I also have one Tile pro for my keys, which I would use weekly, whether it be to locate my keys, or phone). This is a great buy. I was a little disspappointed the airtag won't have a button on it to locate your iphone; it's so useful on the Tile to just click the bottom without needing to log onto iCloud (the alternative if you've lost your iPhone and don't have a Tile). When the airtage v2.0 come out, I'm sure they'll realise they missed that awesome feature. Anyway, great bargain.

    • +2

Surprised for being such an apple fan, you don’t have an Apple Watch.

My apple watch of 4 years is able to ping my iPhone quickly, never needed to goto find my for this purpose.

      • I missed that. I do have an apple watch, but because I'm a watch collector, In rarely gets a run anymore in my rotation!

        • +3

You should try it out again, they brought the ECG feature here to Aus.

    • +1

If you have a family group set up then you can find the devices from any of the 5 iPhones, the iPad and various Macs you have without needing to log into the iCloud site.

  • Code doesn’t work anymore. Let me rephrase, it does work but when I proceed to payment it reverts back to original price
Edit: got it to work after few attempts and after logging in to jb account.
    Thanks OP!

  • +6

cross platform functionality is a winner, I can ask google or alexa where my keys are along with my phone

    • I can track my Tiles on Home Assistant which is nice.

  • +1

Auntie Helen had iPhone, so Uncle Roger sent her away

  • +1

I wouldn't recommend this product. The locate functionality can be hit and miss. There are times when the tile and my phone are next to each other but the Tile app can't locate it.

    • -3

"If I were to make recommendation, I’d say you go with Tile. Apple’s Find My platform is now open to 3rd parties & it’s just matter of time before Tile is compatible with it. This gives you more options, more colors, & insurance coverage on tagged devices if you lost it ($1,000 for lost items).
You don't trust Apple Walled garden when your mone is at stake.

      • -1

I'd say it is more of a hedge. Pretty easy to exit out of if you want to.

      • With Tile looking to fight Apple in court over Find My in the US, I can’t see them supporting the platform too soon. After those proceedings close maybe they’ll join in. Right now they’re probably the last in line to be jumping on board.

Nothing to say the Tile you buy today would support it but even if Tile adopt the platform. Chipolo are getting support but it needs a new model to use Find My.

Anyway, if Find My is important to you get a device that supports it today. Betting on tech companies to support third parties often doesn’t pan out, or you can end up waiting a long time or find you need to replace your hardware with a newer model to get those features.

  • Anybody got deals for replacement CR1632 batteries?

  • +3

I've got a bunch of these. They never seem to work.

  • If there's a kind soul who has a code they aren't going to use, please PM it to me. Thanks.

    • the code is generic

      • Ah ok, I read…
