Just got the message from Athena this morning that they are dropping my rate.
I too would like an offset account, but otherwise they have been good and easy to deal with.

Great provider, CommBank doesn't even come close. Was an easy application as well.

      CommBank doesn't even come close.

CBA is offering 2 year fixed at 1.94% with offset, so I'd say that is pretty close.

      • This would be for new customer only?

      • Do you have a link to this? Spoke to a CBA banker a couple of weeks ago and they told me fixed rate loans cannot have an offset, you must split and have an offset on the variable portion only.

        • Ah sorry, my mistake. I have two loans, a fixed rate and a variable with offset and got them mixed up.
You are right, you split the the loans and put your offset against the variable part.

It still works out a good deal though if you know how much you plan to have in your offset and adjust the split accordingly.

        • This is probably true - but you can get fixed loans with offsets elsewhere (TicToc, Bank Australia). Commonwealth Bank is behind the times when it comes to offsets.

      • Comp rate is 3.93, I'd say that's not even close.

        • Comparison rates are pretty much useless for 99% of people. They use a set of variables as an example that aren't even close to anyone's actual circumstances.
eg When I switched my CBA loan for variable to split, there were no extra fees or charges, the rate simply went down from what it was. So the comparison rate is junk.

          • @1st-Amendment: Wouldn't that then make the comparison rate the same as the interest rate?

            • @illz: You'd have to understand your own situation, for me the comparison rate is meaningless.

              • +1

@1st-Amendment: Comparison rate only means interest plus fees associated to the loan.
Meaning, if a loan has $0 fees and an interest of 1.99% (Athena) the comparison rate would also be 1.99%

It's not useless at all, you had a very different customised situation than many other Australians, most people generally go for the standard offer so the comparison rate is actually very helpful.
It gives greater insite to customers seeking the default package offered without all the BS.

                • @illz:

Comparison rate only means interest plus fees associated to the loan.

Yeah, the problem with it is that it's based on a $150k mortgage which is unrealistic for most people. At $150k, a few hundred dollars in fees makes a difference. At $1M it's a rounding error.

    • Commbank is terrible

Athena only for cashed up people

What is the logic behind giving low interest rate to lvr<60 than someone with lvr of 80?

    • +7

      less risk….

    • less risk to the lender, not the client (you)

    • As it clearly says on their page, they want you to exit the loan eventually.

  • Athena only for cashed up people

    Wrong.
It is for equity rich people as well.

Still waiting for Athena to offer split loans…it's been marked as "Future Feature" for over 12 months now and is literally the only thing stopping me from considering them.

  • Few weeks ago i went to cba to ask for pricing request. I got 2.85% standard variable rate from 4.55% loan left on loan $195.000 not sure is it a good rate should look around. For better rate any recommend anyone ?

    • +4

leave them, so useless, the retention team called me up after i sent complaints about the interest rate.

      They wouldn't drop below 3.09%.
I have 1.99% now with Athena.

It seems that CBA is a CCR participant :(

No, CCR is not Credence Clearwater Revival.

And? You’ve written this on every noted lender in this thread. What for?

@tg: Gotcha, you’re worried about lenders correctly assessing their risk against borrowers?

      • CBA and about 50 others

        • And everyone in the near future.

  • +4

So when is CCR touring again? I hear they are very popular within the banking community.

  • I got an email saying there is a double referral bonus of $500 each at the moment too.

  • before moving, ask them how many months does refinance take???

homestar finance takes months. I have put application through in Feb and still not approved!

  • Ok I have started an application for Investment property, not finished yet but does anyone know where is the "Referral" section?

    • There will be a place to put it in somewhere in the application form.

      • Completed application. Referral section is just before you submit application. Now the ball is in their court to review and ask for supporting documentation.

  • I am looking to join Athena…does anyone have a referral code? $250 for each of us!
