Tech newbie here, do the models posted have different screens?

    100% SRGB gamut coverage screen.

Not exactly sure what that means

    • Since the LCD screen is one of the costly componet of laptop computer, manufactural will use cheaper screen with less gamut coverage screen, which looks less vibrant.

Here is a sample image for your reference.

      • Very clear explanation. Thanks a lot! :D

      • +8

That sample imagine….. Feels a little exaggerated

        • Too funny

Yup. Something less that all those colours, but not that bad

        • +2

Maybe you just can't see the full colours because you're not using the monitor with 100% sRGB

    • Yes there are different model screens.
This one has the cheaper low res screens.
I have read reviews on the better screens they run at 120Hz, people said definitely get the better screen way better.
I bought the model with better screen but paid over $200 extra for that privilege.
I could not find a model with the better screen at a cheaper price, I watched for a few weeks.
I think these cheaper screens models are harder to move and hence the cheaper prices.

      • On the Gaming 3 model, I noticed it's got the 120hz screen but that was only listed at 250nits, it really is confusing. I wonder which screen is actually better.

      • If you want a nice looking screen you want >=300 nits and >=97% sRGB or >= 72% NTSC.
If you want smooth gaming then >=120hz.
Gamers often sacrifice a nice looking screen for smooth gaming. Some screens give you both however.

      • Do you have a link to the one with the better screen? Is it also discounted? Thanks.

  • +3

    "100% sRGB Gamut"
    FINALLY

    • +1

      Waiting for 110%

  • +2

Using this laptop with extremal monitor and sit on a hollow laptop stand, great performance for normal gaming.
Just be aware the heat sink holes on the bottom are easily blocked by dirt due to the power of the fans are strong, it sucks the dust from the desk!

  • +4

Far better than that recent rubbish 11th Gen Intel Dell deal, at almost exactly the same price.

  • +1

It doesn't have thunderbolt 4 right so how do they come around that issue? Does docks work someone please advise as I am confused.

    • +4

You don't need thunderbolt to use a docking station. A USB C docking station (non thunderbolt) will work for almost everything. From my understanding thunderbolt is used for things such as external GPUs.

    • +1

I'm sure this laptop would support 4K60p over USB-C displayport alt mode.

  • Does this support a USB-C docking station. e.g. DELL universal docking station? https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/dell-universal-dock-d60…

Or do I have to use the USB component of the docking station. Side question. Does the USB rather than USB-C make the transfer of information to screens slower?

Apologies in advance for poor technology lingo

    • +2

I used Dell Thunderbolt Dock – WD19TBS on this Legion 5 for a month, it support two external monitor via hdmi and display port, no delay or lagging on external monitor observed.
However the dock can not charge back to laptop via usb-c port, hence the laptop and dock needs two chargers.

  • Thoughts on this deal vs the current Omen deal? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265131899974?hash=item3dbb17bc46…

  • This sounds weird but I really wanna find the weight of this badboy

    • +1

Starts at 2.3kg per the Lenovo website.

      • Damn thanks my legs ain't a fan of that

    • Is that list price realistic?!?

      • Definitely not. Pretty sure it was Lenovo that had that 99% off laptop deal the other month haha.

        • Haha, right. Dumb comment from me. Cheers

    • It's cheaper for those who have the Lenovo education portal - price at $2,239.

  • What about this one for $599, for Zoom calls, productivity work

    • Good choice.

    • The frame is UGLY.

  • So this item doesnt have wifi capability ? Not a computer guy so correct me if im wrong

    • Wireless 11ax, 2x2

    • +1

      It does have Wi-Fi capability.

Integrated Mobile Broadband: No Wireless WAN

means no mobile modem and SIM card slot for road warrior.

  • This or this ?https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/621865

    • The razer is out of stock mate.

      • +1

Online yes but in-store no. I got one already

        • Good on ya! Are you liking it?

  • Returned the Legion from the previous Amazon deal and ordered this. Thanks.

    • What is the difference? saw the other one had 4600H but don't know what this means?

      • Better CPU and an additional 1TB HDD in this deal.

  • Tech Illiterate here. Would this be capable of running VR?

    • Probably not very well, GPU isn't very powerful

  • Does this have MMX technology?

  • Does this have a usb type c charger?

  • +3

    Does this run commander keen?

    • Duke Nukem classic is where its at

  • good specs and price, but the 256GB SSD is a dealbreaker, you'll only be able to install a handful of games. i'd personally swap out that 2.5" HDD for another SSD ASAP …5400RPM HDD is so out of date

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed one. Had been waiting for this config but with a decent screen and didn’t want to spend 1700 for the 1660ti model.

  • Stupid question but is the OS and 'main' drive the ssd or the 5400?

    • I'm guessing it would be the ssd.

  • +1

Hi everyone just be careful buying this particular model from lenovo. The screen is extremely thin and flexible. It is prone to cracking when closing the lid. Happened to me and Lenovo does not cover the screen replacement under warranty.

  • thanks OP, just bought it.
Was on the chat with lenovo directly and wouldn't price match (or match the UNiDAYs deal) so ended up buying via ebay!

  • recieved mine today, delivered on 3rd day!

I'm used to 14 inch T and E series, man, hefty unit! the screen does seem a bit flimsy and I miss the touch screen already. anyway. that's all in the specs so no surprises really! Gives me the ability to edit video/photos on the go so it will do the job! might need a bigger backpack!!

  • got mine delivered yesterday. just upgraded from ASUS N56VM (got in 2013 and upgraded the hdd to ssd).
other than a flimsy screen in the legion, it is great. it is a bit on the heavy side.
