  • Interesting price. Which would be better all-round? I have a Prime subscription so I'm thinking the Fire Stick would be the obvious choice. It would be nice to watch Prime in 4k as it can't be done on PC due to DRM bullshittery.

Google TV works fine with Prime. Bought one a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty great.

      • +1

Are you SURE it's doing 4K HDR?
It might be, but for a long time that was a 'fire stick only' sell point.

        • +1

Oh damn, I missed that bit. No idea as I'm using it on an old 720p tv. Why am I not surprised Amazon are doing the dirty like that.

            @beefsandwich:

Why am I not surprised Amazon are doing the dirty like that.

This might be one of those circumstances where that's NOT entirely what's happening.
4K decoding requires hardware acceleration. and HDR requires a whole bunch more…
While I'm sure it's still driven by a bottom line somewhere (man power costs money); I can't hate them for not wanting to staff-up for tens of thousands of 'android box' users asking them to support 4k on their DIY device.

Sort of like, selling Apple Care for a Dell, you know?

Yes, it would be nice if there was just a disclaimer in the app that screams at you in 3 different ways THIS ISN'T SUPPORTED, DONT CALL US!!
But the entire userbase of technology as a whole is getting so idiotic and hand-held, that they'd just OK the warning, then still complain that it doesn't work. This is why 'Apple' is seen as so stable, just lock out the imperfect features, even for the pros, and make them live with it.

Fire stick, prime day's coming up.

Also; I don't know if it's possible, but the mods should look into putting warnings into posts that use these 'layby' type services, because not everyone knows they have a high potential to negatively affect your credit score, just by being a member.

  • Can you get six months Netflix?

    • Here you can get the Netflix deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/569685

      • Yes I know this deal but just wondering bought chromecast TV from other seller won't have 6 months Netflix?

        • Nope, it won't.

          • @pizzaguy: OK, those Chromecast sold from Google directly must have serial number registered for Netflix.

            • @superforever: Chromecast with Google TV and Netflix bundle is $139.99, without Netflix is $99.

            • @superforever: Pretty sure Google just sends you an email with a voucher/code for the Netflix actually.

              • @MiscOzB: When you first start up the Chromecast TV , it will tell you have 6 months netflix and received redeem from email.

My GTV reset not long ago and I received the email again but not sure if I can reclaim it.

                • @superforever: Just try and let us know, so we reset ours!

                  • @pizzaguy: Ha ha I don't think it is possible I got this when click on the redeem link

Sorry, but this offer from Google has already been used.

I ordered as a new customer and was charged full price too - I was expecting it to deduct after the transaction was processed.

I guess this isn't the case?

    • New customer of Latitude or Good guys?

      • latitudepay - not sure what I have done wrong :\

Any one else having issues with the Plex app on the Chromecast Google TV(god i wish they made a better name, Chrome TV or something).

Plex won't auto play episodes anymore and will regularly shut the whole device down and do a restart. The no auto play happens on a firestick too, which suggest an Android problem in general with the Plex app, but the restarting problem is specific to the chromecast. Driving me nuts

  • Well this is a bit shitty. I was rejected from joining LatitudePay. I have no idea why. Maybe because I haven't had any credit for the last 20 years?

It's really not worth the hit to your credit rating if you ever need to really use it (your rating) anyway; it's such a small saving.

      • You're right of coarse. I've never needed a credit rating but now that I may have a bad one I must know why. I'm now waiting on a free credit report. Jebus tap dancing christ Experian hunger for proof of identification! Numbers were not enough, they needed photos too. The photos wouldn't upload under Chrome (likely an extension). Thankfully my naked copy of Microsoft Edge worked.

        • +1

Things like 'other' services can disqualify you. like ZipPay or whatever those other ones are; they all damage your rating.
So long as you earn big, your bank wont mind, but if you're ever trying to get a home loan, and you're only JUST scraping in, it can be a real pain to explain to the bank manager that you never actually needed those services…

    • My credit report arrived today. No issues, no mention of LatitudePay. The last and only enquiry is from my power company. Maybe my lack of credit, any credit at all, for most of my life means I have no history to check on so I'm automatically a risk. I dunno.
