Reviews:

Common issues, HDR is subpar, Contrast is below-average. NVIDIA also quietly changed the definition of G-Sync Ultimate to factor in these monitors at 600nits instead of the expected 1000nits. Bunch of nitwits!

Just curious - is it reasonable to expect at least 4K and/or USB-C at that price? I'm not a gamer, I might not make sense here.

    • I agree! Next year I'm hoping they merge the goodness of Dell U3421WE with this monitor's GSync compatibility.

    • This is technically 4k, but in an ultrawide format

A USB C hub and power passthrough would be great yeah, I'd hope that's in the next model.

      • USB-C with power passthrough wouldn't make much sense, unless it provides a lot of power. I imagine any "gaming laptop" would consume 100W+. I would be surprised to see any devices (apart from laptop chargers) to offer that many watts.

And re 4K - that's fair enough, that monitor does deliver 4K. It's just a bit short of 4K UHD. But no drama.

    • This is actually a reasonable price, the LG offering costs 1k more.

      You'll also need a hefty GPU to run a 4k 38inch panel at 144hz.

To clarify, physical size doesn't make a difference here, the resolution and refresh rate does.

    • Wow actually impressive specs for the price.

2 high performance 27" monitors will give you more screen space plus a cheaper price to pay compared to this. What would be the reason to go for this over 2 monitors?

Have you ever tried playing a game with a bar down the middle?

      • and you get more vertical height as well

      • +1

Lol seriously. Imagine how much people would bitch if you went to a cinema or bought a TV with a giant black stripe through the middle of the action.

      • then get 3 x 27" monitors
pretend the two black lines on both sides are cockpit view

I for one don't have space nor budget for either option 😞

        • Ok so basically for people who play games then.

          • @clubhonda: Or prefer to watch movies on a bigger screen, or browse any digital content on a bigger screen, or a plethora of other reasons.

            • @meetyourmaker: I find it more useful to monitor stocks, trade, work etc on a dual monitor setup. I've been wondering about getting a bigger single screen, but if the reasons are all more for leisure such as games or watching movies, which I have no time for generally, then it's a pass for me personally. Great for people who plays games or watches movies on their computers I guess.

@clubhonda: You're probably better off getting a 32:9 monitor if you can afford it for that reason then. 21:9 is best for non-competitive gaming and movie watching.

            @clubhonda: It is a gaming monitor…

            • @equinoxxx: @equinoxxx I equate gaming monitor as better quality monitors with faster refresh and sharper graphics… unless that's not true? In this respect I'm like those who buy a racing spec car and just use it for daily commutes lol…

  • Great monitor, can confirm. Picked up one last deal available

  • I LOVE THIS MONITOR

  • will a 3080 be able to push out above 80-100 fps on this monster resolution?

    • +1

Depends entirely on the game, your CPU and the compromises you may wish to make to graphical settings. So technically yes..

    • +1

ive got this monitor on a 3090 and im pushing anywhere between 70-100+ frames on recent games + all the pretties cranked to max.

      • gotcha thanks. i guess i can expect around 60-80 which isnt too bad but kinda pointless if i'm getting a 144hz. I guess I might just go for the mi 34inch. i dont want to spend 1.5k if i gotta compromise on video quality to get ideal fps.

Depends. A good monitor can last YEARS. My current one is probably 10 years old, and because I got a good one it has been really good - wide gamut, pretty well calibrated for its time, but it's starting to wear out. If this 38" Dell monitor gives you everything you need then there's no reason you couldn't use it for many years as well, which means your graphics card will probably get upgraded a few times and 144hz won't be so hard to achieve.

I'm tempted at this price, but I'm naively hanging out for full array backlight or micro LED monitors to become more mainstream so we can get the accuracy of IPS but the contrast of OLED… but I don't think my current monitor is gonna last another 3+ years!

All I want is this monitor but in 34 inches

  • Stop stop stop don't do it stop

  • Says "This is a valid coupon code, but there are no matching items currently in your cart." - trying to apply "KONG7" to this monitor….. any suggestions? (6 hours left on deal)

    • Applied Coupon: LOVEKEANU - this works

  • Any limitation to use it with xbox series x? will get 120hz?
