Not on my eBay home page, maybe targeted

  • I'm yet to update details. what is eBay's motive to give out $20 for "details".

Didn't get the message. Haven't updated my details to the new payment system

    Bye ebay :(

We'll notify youWe’re not yet ready for you to update your account details. We’ll send you an email and a notification in My eBay when you can get set up.

  • Is this just for sellers.

  • +1

Is it legal for eBay to force all sellers onto their "managed payments" system?

It's what happens with monopolies, where else can you sell?

      • +1

        Facebook Marketplace. No fees.

      • +1

        Gumtree. No fees.

        Yes, but is it legal?

Imagine your work saying that they will only deposit your salary into CBA, so you must open a CBA account. If you don’t then they will withhold your salary until you do. Don’t like it? Go find another job.

        Their workplace. Their rules.

For eBay - I wonder if it’s something for the ACCC or financial ombudsman to look at.

  • It's garbage. I still see $5 subscription notification but never got my $5 ever

Be wary… I update my phone number a few years ago and now I get calls about all sorts of stuff. Should sue you ebay.

  • I haven't been offered a voucher but I got this message about a week ago, telling me I need to update payment details or I'll no longer be able to sell. I'm real reluctant to update. Maybe it'll turn out to be a non-issue but reading about this new system it sounds like something I want to avoid. Is there anyone on here that's switched and finds it all nice and fine and no issue?

I switched over on one of my 2 ebay accounts. In general this is what I have observed:

    1. Overall the fees are 13.4% - slightly less (very slight) than eBay FVF plus PayPal as it is today (i.e. 10.9% + 2.6% = 13.5%)

    2. Getting the money into your bank account takes longer - it takes eBay a day or 2 to "process" than another day to transfer it to your bank account. Today when you receive payment into PayPal and initiate the withdrawal before 12pm, chances are you will have the funds in your bank same day.

    3. The biggest disadvantage I've found with the new system is that selling promos are broken. For example when you get a promo - free listing and FVF for 1 item for example, and you list your item, you will find that the counter doesn't update. Then when you sell the item, you will find that you are charged FVF. You then have to hop onto chat and get them to reverse the fee. This can get very annoying to have to do it every time.

Furthermore the 2 free listings from gumtree also don't work. You will get charged FVF. And then when you hop onto chat, you will find that it is a struggle to argue with them as they claim they know nothing about gumtree and tells you to contact gumtree.

On the old system, when you list 2 items from gumtree and export to ebay - you won't even be charged FVF at all upon sale of item.

When I contacted them about the Gumtree promo, they said to wait 15 for the credit for the fees to land in the ebay account, which sucks compared to the old way. Hopefully I don't have to contact support about it again

Let us know if it lands after 15 days or if you have to chase after them for it.

It’s going to be a real hassle if you need to chase them each and every time.

        Rinse and repeat every month.

idk if you actually wanted an update, but it took them about a month after the sale to give me the money that they took in fees, and I had to chase them up repeatedly. absolutely do not recommend selling using ebay rn

    • Sorry replying to an old comment, but in case someone else is looking into this I believe the end result is ever so slightly more fees, not slightly less.

The old system you didn't have to pay GST on your PayPal fees, now that eBay is managing the payments and combining it into one single fee it means we need to essentially pay GST on both the FVF and fee. The eBay fee is slightly less, but given we incur more GST it works out slightly worse for us.

I've also had a nightmare trying to get my Gumtree promo back, I've contacted support chat 4 times and they always say expect an email in 3-5 days.

  • Has anyone received the $20 voucher from eBay yet?

    • I received the gift card by eBay message 2 hours ago.
