I think the best deal would be the ThinkPad X1 for $874.65, don't think the US store has even had them this cheap.

I was about to post this. Should also mention that the deal expires on Monday 30th January.
Also, when customising your machine, under accessories, there is a $1 Bluetooth Mouse and $1 Sleeve.

X1 has a weak (4 hours or so according to reviews) integrated battery which you can't change out and no matte screen option.

X220 or T420 series is the way to go if you're looking to spend around 1k on a Thinkpad, otherwise the Thinkpad Edge series is great value for <1k :)

    • Damn, it looked like an ultrabook-like laptop :|
4 hours is just horrible for their original listed price

  • Unfortunately I needed a laptop urgently. However, these deals offer fantastic value for those that can wait.

The E320 Enhanced is a good buy at $539. Remember to get your additional $100 cash back from http://www.powerbuy.com.au/ - So $439 for an 13.3" i5-2450M / 4gb ram.

    • I didn't see $539. It's shown as $619.65

        Try this link
        http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno…

It's much cheaper and you can pick up a 4gb stick of ram for dirt cheap (definitely for much cheaper than the ~$100 Lenovo charges).

        • I would pay $539 for ThinkPad Edge E320 - Enhanced just to get the Win7 64bit

    • How http://www.powerbuy.com.au/ works? buy thinkpad from that site or claim from them?

      • +2

Buy from Lenovo, claim from PowerBuy with direct deposit in to your account. Haven't used them yet, but their live chat sounded legit - would have used them if I had gone with a lenovo.

        http://www.powerbuy.com.au/offers/lenovo-thinkpad-edge/

        • I noticed that if I try and register for a cashback for a Thinkpad Edge, my only option is for Business Use, and it's asking for an Employer Name…

    • you cannot claim it back if you buy direct from lenovo. besides the price from their partners such as HS are way to high.

      • I asked them in their live chat a couple of days ago and they said you could claim $100 from them, obviously no claim allowed from Lenovo Money Tree however.

Can you confirm if this has changed?

"Save $100 on selected Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Laptops via cash-back
Buy this laptop at your best price from your favourite store then collect an extra $100 cash-back"

          How it works

Firstly, we recommend you reserve your Lenovo Edge laptop cash-back so you don't miss out on the deal and to be eligible for an extra $20 when you claim. Then, purchase your Lenovo Edge laptop at your best price from your preferred store and provide us with your receipt to claim your $100 cash-back. We will pay you in as little as 5 business days by bank deposit or you can request a cheque.

After you've claimed from PowerBuy you can then claim your $100 gift card from the Lenovo Moneytree website."

So to claim cashback, firstly it must be selected model as listed by lenovo moneytree, secondly it must be purchased from your favorite shop to claim additional cashback from powerbuy if i read it correctly.

From chat log on Jan 23rd from Powerbuy.com.au

Yes you can - Specs are: http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/notebooks/thinkpad/edge-serie…
Is there anything else I can help you with today Scott?
Scott: But those E320's are not available with your $100 cashback?
Operator: If you buy it from the Lenovo site you will only get our $100 cash-back but not the Lenovo Money Tree cash-back. When you receive the quote the price will include the discount from us and from Lenovo.
Scott: Great, so do I need to purchase from the quote? Or can I just configure an E320 from Lenovo now and still get the $100 cashback from powerbuy?
Operator: You sure can configure the E320 from Lenovo and still get the $100 cash-back from us.
If you do buy it from Lenovo just upload your reciept through our website and you will receive the cash-back from us.
Scott: Very nice. You've been a great help. I look forward to receiving those quotes and hopefully dealing with PowerBuy. If all goes well I will ensure to refer you guys online

          Tl;dr
You sure can configure the E320 from Lenovo and still get the $100 cash-back from us.

        • It looks like that powerbuy site will take $200 off the price of the x220 too.

        • +1

How legit is this cashback deal? I've never heard of powerbuy before or of them mentioned anywhere. If its indeed legit then its a great deal!

          Any success stories?

  • X1 for $874.65 where did you find that price?

  • nice price, x220 even cheaper than US site

  • +2

WTF?! $629 difference for a better processor and double the RAM between the two X1 configurations?! Or am I missing something there…

  • e320 with 3g for $699 is quite a good buy tho

  • anyone comments on x121e?attempting to get it for long time

    • Me too
      Especially the 1 with ssd.

    • I'm typing this on my x121e which I just got today, ordered a couple of weeks ago when the same deal was on - runs Ubuntu 11.10 with no problems. Can't comment on Windows since I did not even try that - we'll see how I go getting my M$ tax back ;-)
I got the enhanced one with 6GB ram, 128GB ssd, bluetooth and intel wireless for $635.
      http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno…
make sure you add bluetooth mouse and case for a dollar each as well.
A great little machine for that price.

      • Do you have USB 3.0 there? No info in regards of USB 3.0. Thanks.

        • Only USB 2.0 on this one.

      • Hi

        • Thx!
          Thought they give us intels!!!!

          Deal breaker!
          R these ssd good?

nice config whinges, but for something "Valued at: $1,414.68" you'd think they would throw in 64bit windows premium, can't access all 6Gb with included OS, now i see why you went Ubuntu…

        • ..um
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) [AU $0.00]
Just got to "customise" it, that's all.
He's just being megacheapass trying to get like a $30 refund from microsoft haha
          @whinges
Let me know how your M$ tax goes

        • …who negged me? :|
You just switch the Win 7 HP to 64 bit in the cart.

  • Looking for an X220, my spec comes to $1118.60 (down from AU$1,316.00). Will lenovo offer a better discount closer to the start of Uni?

    • The discount rate is the maximum I've seen in the three months I've been following the Lenovo discounts. They repeated similar discounts on October 31st and sometime around early December. The discounts only work for the 1st page options though (the base options).

Ignore the "Valued at" prices. The "Web price" is the non-discounted price (although this seems to go up slightly each time there's a discount posted).

True ozbargainers would fit extra laptop RAM themselves. The X220 makes this even easier - both slots are readily accessible. 4Gb sticks of DDR3-1333 is at an all time low of ~$20.

I would recommend the IPS screen upgrade though.

  • Whats the best deal in this sale for a gaming laptop that people recommend. Prefer a 13.3" or 14" screen.

    • i don't think any thinkpad or ideapad product is good for gaming. but again depends on type and details of the game you into

  • Does this apply on the x201 + tablet notebooks?

  • +4

    Oh it's a lenovo deal.
    Ctrl + F "Scotty"
Not found? What is wrong with ozbargain!?

I was going to post this offer up but am still having my Chinese New Year break :)

  • Thanks OP. Got a E320 for uni with the $1 sleeve :)

  • What kind of warranty do Lenovo have: rtb or onsite/pickup?

    • I think it's onsite/pickup.

      • Thanks. I've just configured a few E320's and it had upgrade options for on-site warranty so must have just rtb as stock. Bugger. Anyone know how easy it would be to add ram to the E320 down the track?

  • going to buy a e320…. anyone trying buying directly through lenovo using AUSSIE30 via starthere.com.au getting 2.5% rebate, then claiming $100 cash back through powerbuy.com.au?

side question for anyone whos bought from lenovo.. what date appears on your invoice, the day you order online or the date the order is dispatched? i called lenovo who said its the dispatch date and if I want a different date on the invoice they can change it. (dunno if the operator i spoke to was correct?) i want to claim the TRS but i need to buy after 4/02… but obviously i need to buy before 30/01 to use AUSSIE30 coupon

    • Has anyone done this yet? (Starthere then Powerbuy). Going to grab an e420 today sometime.

    • I was going to but had a hard time finding an eligible model number for the cashback… tried a few E320s with no luck.

Look at "The Fine Print" here: http://www.powerbuy.com.au/offers/lenovo-thinkpad-edge/

      Eligible Part Numbers
      021737M; 0301GYM; 0301J7M; 03192BM; 03192CM; 0328A23; 114162M; 114163M; 114353M; 114354M; 114355M; 114356M; 11436YM; 129834M; 129835M; 1143AWM

Ended up configuring an X1 with an SSD and slice battery - with Affinity discount, salary sacrifice and the $200 PowerBuy rebate, I can hopefully get it to $600 :D

  • i put my order through yesterday, it has appeared on starthere… will need to buy until i get the receipt to apply for the powerbuy rebate.. dunno if it is real or not but that wasn't the deciding factor to buy, will be a nice bonus if it comes through…

    • Ok cool. Will order shortly then, thanks.

  • I thought it was worth registering to post up that with the following PowerBuy discount.

The Thinkpad X1 (i3 model) which is on sale for $874.66 is eligible for the $200 Powerbuy cashback, bringing it down to $674.66 which is an absolute bargain.

I have confirmed this is the case with Powerbuy and while buying from the Lenovo website does not make us eligible for the further $200 Lenovo Money Tree discount, the first $200 cashback is available.
