This phone has a lot of good reviews. Thanks OP, I'll order one even though I don't need it.

    • +3

That's the spirit. If anybody ever tells you to hand in your OzBargain membership, just send them this.

  • This unlocked one is PERFECT for 7/11 chopper, unlike the Optus locked one.
Looks like this is the official unlocking "DeepTest" apk for the realme C3.

    https://download.c.realme.com/flash/Unlock_tool/DeepTest_rea…

    • cwongtech did you try and install the deep test apk and did it unlock the optus c3?

      • cwongtech did you try and install the deep test apk and did it unlock the optus c3?

I failed for the Optus realme C3, I was able to change regions successfully, but either my deeptest.apk was incorrect or something else was missing.
It appears someone else (Freezingpoint) managed to get the OPTUS one to work though

        • +1

This is true, but I went through more than 10 of those apks lying around the internet. One was bound to work.

This is another story - the rooting part is easy but you need to be very careful with this guides as not all of them work perfectly. I found some steps were missing. I softbricked the phone installing twrp but was able to fix it eventually. I suggest going through YouTube with a video rather than words through forums.

    • You speaking out of experience that this has all the ROMs etc for 7/11?

      • +5

So the pre-requisites for 7/11 is:
        - Android 10 ROM or higher (stock or custom equivalent), there's lineage 18.1 for this exact phone
        - Unlock OEM bootloader (Optus locked realme c3 is very fiddly, I was unsuccessful but this one is the unlocked version), this will factory reset the phone when you do it
        - You need the bootloader to be unlocked to be able to send a patched_boot.img file (which you get by installing magisk.apk on your phone, transfer a normal boot.img (that belongs to your ROM, whether stock or custom), and you get a patched_boot.img
        - Load patched_boot.img when the phone is in recovery mode
        - Boots up fine? Good. Doesn't boot up fine? Your patched_boot.img might be corrupt (check the file size against the original boot.img, it should be almost identical in file size)
        That's root done.

        • Smali patcher module (magisk), safetynet fix module (magisk), magiskhide, 7/11 app are not device specific.

You speaking out of experience that this has all the ROMs

You sound like you haven't done it before
It definitely has a ROM for Android 10 or higher as per the XDA forums link

Detailed instructions for the Realme C3 here

        • The world of Android flashing has always bewildered me. What I think works never ends up working. But it sounds like you've got a solution thanks.

        • What do you use for the choppa though? I thought the only working solution currently was ifakeloc for iOS as all the droid location spoofing apps are blocked?

          • +1

            @turkz1:

all the droid location spoofing apps are blocked?

That's what Smali patcher is for. Presents the mock location as native :)

As someone pretty experienced with Android romming - what is 7/11 chopper and what's the appeal?

      • Look in the automotive thread

If you can fly your 7/11 chopper, you can get cheap fuel for your car

        • I too would like to know what it is. Cant seem to find any info.

          • +1

            @RICKYLOVESYOU:

I too would like to know what it is. Cant seem to find any info.

As I said above.. Look in the automotive thread

There's more to OzBargain than Deals.. "Forums"..
If you can't figure that out, you won't be able to figure out how to fly with us.. sorry

            • @cwongtech: I did that before asking, did not find a detailed explanation, ah no matter was curious but not enough to trowel through an entire subject in the forums for it. Cheers anyway. Have fun "flying". Haha.

You had me until 'micro-usb charging'.

    • What's wrong with micro usb? - genuine question

      • This really depends on your situation.

I've largely moved on from micro USB now. Most devices I own now have USB-C connectors on them allowing for the same charger to be used for pretty much all devices. Micro USB is a minus for me as it would mean carrying an extra charger and cable.

      • +1

Because much like USB you never plug it in the right way the first go.

        • +1

Never really had that issue with micro USB, the shape is quite distinct unlike USB A.

      • +2

Well just looking to get a new phone for my old man and had bought him new chargers for his vehicles as his current phone is USB C.

Plus given his age and technology aptitude it's just easier to have something that he can't get wrong.

Probably just get him a Moto G10 for ~199.

        • +2

If your Dad can’t plug in a cable, I wouldn’t be happy with him driving!

          • @mskeggs: Last time I checked, cars have been around for over 100 years. Micro USB, not so much.

            • @Techie4066: Sure, but very few micro usb have a 2000kg steel form factor travelling at 60km/h.
The failure of having to turn the plug over is much less damaging than the failure behind the wheel.

              • @mskeggs: Who said old farts are familiar with tech? No one. That equates to an inability to properly use a phone, and unfamiliarity with Micro USB. Things need to be as easy as possible, and not understanding how to plug a phone in is a problem.

You might say they know how to plug other things in. But when it comes to smartphones, everything is perceived as far more foreign to older generations.

      • Not a reversible socket. Snaps more easily. Slow data transfer for photos and video.

I'd also get a Moto G10, got one for my grandmother and it has the best battery life of any phone sold (GSMArena).

        • A lot of phones only implement USB 2 for data transfer in which case it will be the same speed but with a different connector.

      • You need to put it in with your eyes open

    • Still more universal & as slow as the proprietary lightning.

  • +4

I got the Optus locked one from Target for $75 before this. It's really a great phone for that price. Nice screen, great battery life, solid build, fast face and fingerprint unlock.

  • OK I'm worried because I was rejected for both after pay and latitude pay and get the feeling it's only because I've almost hit my limit on one of my cards farrrrr out!!!!! Wouldn't have tried it if I thought it would not work :( My score is excellent.
Also recently closed a card wonder if they updated my report to reflect that!

But, bday present for the old man sorted.

    • I had no problem joining Afterpay, but Latitudepay refused me… never had a credit card or a loan in my life lol.

Nobody will ever know how these companies work.

      • No idea they gave the same vague answer banks do :( sad!!

Just hurts in case I decide to go for a home loan hope I haven't screwed my score

  • How did you get the $20 afterpay discount?

    • when you select pay by AFTERPAY, in the afterpay screen it will apply the promo.
Make sure, you seen the "DISCOUNT" before you tick the agree box.

NB: Pls note, I am not sure how many discount/transaction is allowed, I have only purchased one item (one transaction so far)

  • +1

As this is the unlocked Realme C3, this has dual sim (unlile the Optus Realme C3)

Even though the Optus Realme C3 is built to be able to take 2 sims, it can only and will only take one sim due to only having one imei.

$8 extra is worth it for this.

Aside from that: A very good phone at this price.

  • +1

Damn, so cheep, and it also has a somewhat active community on XDA… goddamit OzBargain I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it…

EDIT: just looked up the forums, this is not the best phone for custom ROMs… anyone have links to actually working guides on how to root and unlock bootlaoder on this phone?

  • Your parents deserve more modern SMARTphones than iPhones ;)
    Battery lasts easily 2 days.

    • Why have you brought iPhones here? Genuine question.

      • Not a genuine question. Sorry.

        • You can see it however you like it mate, not a problem at all :)

    • Ignoring the vastly different market segments and price differences…

On the topic of more modern, an iPhone will be supported longer than this phone. Sticking to roughly the same price tier as this phone when upgrades stop, it's unlikely you'd ever have a phone as performant as the iPhone. If you care about updates and the planet you're generating more e-waste with phone upgrades as support for each phone ends.

Apple iPhone CPUs will be far superior to the G70 and CPUs in this price bracket for a while.

A modern iPhone will also allow them to get support from Apple, potentially easing your need to help them. Upgrades will also be smoother.

The camera will easily outclass this one. Your parents definitely deserve a better camera(not necessarily an iPhone).

While your parents may deserve more freedom, chances are they will never use power user features Android enables.

  • No stock in WA. Post one for kid using LP. seems a good deal. Thanks OP.

    • Just picked up mine from forrest chase city

  • so how do I get the Latitude pay discount?
I have 28degrees credit card but have never used LP before.

    • Join LP, pay with LP.

      • thank you I did! LP automatically applied the discount during the checkout

  • What happened to their website, checked an hour ago there are plenty stock around me from different store, now the page been removed?

    • Looks like the blue is gone but the red is still on the website

      • Just surprised how fast its selling, guess I do need one now.

  • Got one thanks op

  • +1

    Oops… can't find what you're looking for…

  • I had one of these phones, duel sim version.

Camera was okish, not the best but has a decent soc for the price…. I dubed it the cheapest gaming phone, it was surprising how well it handl3 games.

Battery life was fantastic, 2 days heavy use and that was with 2 sims and about 2 hours of gaming.

  • Blue out of stock (the link in OP's deal)… just when I decided to buy a blue one. Oh well.

    • You must be feeling blue :P

      Red is still there

  • I am tempted to buy this for my mum as her first smartphone phone. But she isn't tech-savvy whatsoever. She literally uses her phone just for calls. However, she keeps going through her flip phone every 12-18 months as she drops them (she is clumsy…sorry mum, plus she does a bit of gardening) or the hinges wear out. However, she doesn't want a smartphone that is too big or, very difficult to use. Even her current flip phone (Nokia 2720 fold) isn't the most user friendly.

  • thanks just bought with Latitude 94 delivered

  • Is the c11 better than the c3? C11 is $127 at jb.

  • Just received my C3. So far, not bad for 90 bucks!

Build quality is better than expected. Camera is usable but obviously not great. Screen pretty decent.

It will be sacrificed to the children.

    • Ditto

    • Update for future reference: Wifi not so great (it seems to max out at 50Mb/s, standing close to our AC Ubiquiti router).
720p screen, still looks pretty decent.

Honestly is this is what 90 bucks gets you these days, very impressed!

      • Netflix playback is unfortunately only L3, so not HD.

  • The C3 is really good except for the camera. Ended up buying the x3 superzoom instead. Will use this one as backup.
