Optus Internet Gamer 100/20Mbps $89/Month for 6 Months, $99 Signup Fee + 30,000 Flybuys Points @ Optus

Click the link then click the premium speed section and the plan will then show.

Seems like a decent deal. Comes with a Asus DSL-AX82U modem/router that is free so long as you stay connected for 36 months. Can upgrade NBN speed (at a $20/mth discount for 6 months if you're an eligible FTTP or HFC connection)

The CIS doesn't include the $89 for 6 months promo so remember that when you are having a look at it. I know this deal will be irrelevant for most OZB people as its not ABB, Mate or Superloop but I still thought I'd post as it includes $150 worth of flybuys, a $504 router, free static IP, free Optus Sport and a 6 month trial of Optus Game path which I think is good value.

Good to note as well that Optus are also the best performing fixed line connection according to ACCC Broadband Performance Data. Source

Game path is WTFast under the hood. What is Game Path?

Can I cancel my Internet Gamer plan and continue to pay off the ASUS Gaming Modem on a separate payment plan?

No. Once you cancel your Internet Gamer plan, your device payment plan is also cancelled so you'll be charged any remaining cost of the ASUS Gaming Modem as a lump sum on your next bill.

We'll cover the cost of the modem over 36 months for each month the you stay connected (i.e. $14 per month for 36 months). If you cancel before 36 months, you'll pay $14 for every month remaining.

Please note the router retails as low as $349(binglee.com.au) but Optus for some reason have it in the CIS as being $504.

    Optus are selling the DSL-AX82U.

Bing Lee are selling the RT-AX82U.

    DSL = modem/router.
    RT= router only.

    Signup fee?

  • ABB has been awful for me the past 6months, considering moving to Superloop.

Has anybody been with both and can compare ?

    • I’m curious, what has made ABB awful for you?

      • I have received emails about unscheduled maintenance that may affect my connection. This has occurred about 10+ times since the beginning of the year.
The connection now drops out once a day, even tried using different routers and get the same result.

        • +3

Might be NBN’s fault, not necessarily ABB’s fault.

        • +1

Unscheduled maintenance is mostly nbn. Is your nbn HFC, FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP?

      • I also received a few but didn't actually affect me.

    • yep. SL has been better pings for me. (US, Singapore, UK, Germany). better support (quixker answer times).

but not a hugh difference, so if you're having issues explain what they are as it maybe just NBN, not RSP.

for the deal…i got SL to migrate to a new place my grandfathered $90/mth 100/40 plan twice this year. My speeds have been extraordinary in HFC 106/38 yesterday arvo. each time i asked it was "sure, you're a loyal customer".. something others don't reward.

    • Been with both. Superloop has been more stable at higher speed. Was getting drop-outs on 100/20 ABB, had same with superloop but they were able to diagnose and rectify the issue. No idea what it was. Changed quite a few settings in the modem and deleted and created profiles a few times.

you'll be shafted over and below if you stay for 3 years to get that overpriced router, that bonus flybuys doesn't take you far

I don't know much about this deal but my experience with optus nbn internet has been horrendous. always disconnection at night 10pm -12am and speed always drop mysteriously and it raises mysteriously when you call them to complain. I switched to mate recently and the experience has been superb with rarely once or twice drop in speed. I think this deal from mate is pretty good: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/607641

  • The sign up fee is a deal breaker for me.

    sign up fee

    That's hilarious

  • This router doesn't seem to have the VOIP phone ports that usually come with the Sagemcom 5366TN that optus usually supply. So I'm guessing this plan doesn't come with a home phone?

    • At checkout it says:

This plan doesn't support a phone service, which means that you can't add an nbn phone line to make or receive calls, including emergency services.

      • Also no 4G backup option

    • Can I get a phone service with the ASUS Gaming Modem?

No. The ASUS Gaming Modem doesn't come with the ability to connect a phone line. Check out our Internet Everyday plan or Family Internet Ultimate plan if you want a Home Internet plan with a phone service.

      FAQ

  • OK, this is not a deal, pls remove it

Wouldn't it be easier for Optus to provide a big honker of a 4x4 Wifi 6 router to ALL their customers, and forget about all this Gamer QOS stuff. Happy days for everyone, and less support issues.

  • Sign up fee negates the value of this offer

    • +1

I've often thought about going with Optus but the sign up fee and having to pay for a modem is not something I am willing to do.

      • Definitely, especially these days where competitors don't charge setup and most people BYO modem.

  • I'd love to get my hands on that modem. Pity it doesn't seem to be for sale. A few random international sites get a hit…but nothing in AUS. Does anyone know when (or if) this will be for sale in AUS?

    • Perhaps this is an Optus exclusive for a certain amount of time. Is your nbn HFC, FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP?

      • It's FTTN. I was hoping to continue to upgrade my hardware to Wifi 6. I have an RT-AX86U router from my last place. But it doesn't help much when I need a modem. Currently running a cheap 2nd hand modem bridged to the router but it doesn't reach the other end of the house. I'd rather stay ASUS for sake of ease. Hence, I'm keen to grab this modem.
