      • Is the 18 month including the bank issued AMEX? Cancelled that last year, just wondering if that would make this ineligible?

        • Not many (any?) banks are issuing Amex anymore, they used to not affect bonuses from the regular range (Amex direct)

Contact Amex to be sure =)

          • @blueyez: Thanks~ how should I go about to contact them to find out if I am still eligible for the offer?

Is there a specific number or department to direct to?

    • same here… I've just got rid of mine… my 18m clock has started to count down.

  • This or the Ultimate card promo?

    • I have the same quandary. Did you come to a conclusion?
I always feel jealous when the AMEX discounts are on and I don't have an Amex…. Or are they both Amex? Ok they are both Amex..

  • Nice! 90,000 + 3000 = 29% of a business class round the world. I'll add the math soon for domestic flights on my forum post. Pretty great considering the low spend requirements, and (in theory) waived annual fee.

    • +1

      Interesting! Thanks for the info!

  • Can you get partner cards for this?
And will the partner be ineligible for future promos?

Or can I get a second card? Would that be better

Great 90,000 bonus QF Points for No Annual Fee. Thanks OP!

Some tips that has helped me maximise the use of AMEX cards and points earning potential.
    * Add it as a payment method on Afterpay. So practically, you can use AMEX at all Afterpay partnered merchants, at no extra cost.
    * Add it as a payment method on PayPal. I have used it to pay University fees and some online payments which has surcharges on Debit/Credit cards, but not for PayPal.
    * Most Supermarkets and Retail Giants (HN, JB, etc) accept AMEX at no surcharge

    • Hey there is a surcharge for using CC through paypal though.

      • What surcharge do you speak of? I use credit cards with PayPal all the time and have never seen a surcharge (that I can immediately think of)

      • Only for certain merchants that charge it on Paypal only (vs Bank Transfer) and also for sending money from a CC..

      • To rephrase - if a retailer accepts PayPal, you can use AMEX there at no extra cost to use AMEX.
They may charge (imo very few retailers) for accepting PayPal payments, but it will be lower than AMEX surcharge.

        • Really? Last I read was it's fee free if you pay from your bank account, but if it's from a debit or credit card then there will be a fee.

          • @PeeDee: Speaking from experience, I have not paid any surcharge to use a Credit Card (including AMEX) on PayPal.

        • One thing I have noticed is that occasionally when paying with paypal, that the option to pay with my AMEX card is not there. There must be a way to block certain cards such as AMEX for certain transactions. Perhaps this is done by the retailer somehow?

    • How do you know if your card is linked to qantas successfully? Is there a way to check rather than waiting for statement?

  • +1

Too easy, took 5 mins, hardly had to give any info and auto approved :)

  • do i need an nfc enabled phone to use google pay?

    • If you want to use it in a bricks and mortar outlet, yes.

  • great deal! I got 80000 and $200 cashback for the last deal of this card

  • can my wife apply for this? She is not an australian citizen/PR holder yet. But she has applied for the partner visa.

    Thanks.

    • Found the answer:

    Eligibility

To save time before applying for The Qantas American Express Premium Credit Card, make sure you can say ‘yes’ to the following:
I have an annual income of $40,000 or more
I have no history of bad debt or payment default
I am aged 18 years or over
I am an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a long term visa
If all the above are true, apply today to start enjoying the benefits of Card Membership.

    • I think a spouse visa similar to the temporary resident. As long as got income and above requirement should be no issue.

  • I can't seem to find the information.. What is the minimum credit card limit.. $15,000?

    • $2000. It offers you that in the application.

      • Thank you! I think that works nicely and shouldn't affect my borrowing capacity too much with the banks. I'm refinancing so was tossing up whether to get a free credit card with westpac or this. Maybe I could do both if they are small credit limits.

  • Can anyone confirm if paying off your rego through Dotdirect contributes to the 3000$ spending goal?

  • lol…
    Just applied last week
    Damn it

  • Sorry, it might be a silly question! I have never been in to collecting flyer points. What does 90,000 points give you? Equivalent to how much dollar value?

    • +1

more than $1k gv… depend on which gv you swap… see qff…

      • Oh thanks. So I can buy an airticket equal to $1k and pay extra with cash if the ticket is more than $1k, right?

        • +1

If swapping for a flight that's an entirely different swapping system to GV.

depend on case to case where you go to and seasonal may come into effect (more or less pts swap).

This need to look into qff buying tickets with pts….

but you always have a choice to pay full with pts or partial. Regardless, you always need to pay small portion fees with cash even though your tickets pay full with pts.

    • +2

Personally I like to use points for flights or upgrades (economy to business), some examples from QFF website:

Melbourne > Los Angeles, economy, 83000 return + taxes
Melbourne > Auckland, business, 83000 return + taxes

The points required for air travel change depending on the flight and if there's a reward seat available. For example you can get a reward seat MEL > SYD for 8000, but a regular seat will cost 18000 points for a red e-deal, up to 80000 for a fully flexible.

Gift vouchers are one of the worst ways to spend your points, but given the times we live in they may be attractive to you

      $100 JB voucher: 19730
      $100 Woolworths voucher: 20730

The QFF rewards store currently has a sale on, and some items may be of appeal and can offer better value than vouchers - for example a Samsung Galaxy Watch3 45mm is 72930 points ($499 at JB)
      https://store.qantas.com/au/

      • Thanks @enzso for your kind efforts of explaining this. I am also more inclined towards using the points for air tickets (whenever the overseas travelling resumes). So, if I apply for this credit twice (one in my name and one in my wife's name) then we can have 90,000 points each, right? If yes, that sounds pretty good!

        • +1

          Yes 😀

  • My partner is a secondary card holder of my amex card. Will she still get the points if she signs up for this?

  • +1

Can the 90k Qantas points exchange for coles or woolworths gift cards?

  • How does this compare to the other deal on point hacks to give 120k points and$450 fee is"given back" in firm of qantas credits.

    • Depends if you're going to use the qantas credit I guess

  • Recently applied for the other amex deal but got rejected. They said a physical letter would come detailing why?
If I applied for this instead would I be an instant rejection as well? (Not sure if they have some sort of block out period between applications I should be aware of)

    • don’t try , you will end up be rejected again with another credit hit

  • How do credit cards validate your spending? Is it via merchant category codes ?
Are credit card issuers resourceful in locking down cash retrieval churning?

  • I got the response of "We will notify you of the outcome within 5 - 10 working days". Has anyone else here got instant approval?

    • Yes. Got it in 60 seconds. I only requested a $3k limit and I have less than $10k in total credit card limits. Whether that helps I don't know.

      • Thanks. That could be the reason, I chose the max limit option. So there is a higher chance that my application will be rejected.

        • Ughhh, I did the same thing and got same msg (outcome within 5-10 days) - chose max instead of $3k.
I've got stuff to buy next weekend which will help with the $25 min spend transactions :( Hopefully all good by then.
Hopefully paying Zip statements will count.

          • @Ughhh: Instant* approval Applied 11 June, requested 10k limit to be safe, approved last night 16th. 5 day card delivery time.

    • I got this after applying yesterday. They just called me to ask for a proof of employment/income.

      • Didn't the process request this at time of application?

I just applied and got to the stage where it requested this. My phone then accidentally restarted. I'm not sure now if my application is active or I have to start again and take another credit hit.

        Will try calling tomorrow.

        • Yeah I think the uploading of documents bugged out for me because I never saw the confirmation screen.

          • @doughnuthouse: I didn't see any uploading of documents section? Where did you see this?

            • @spammingb: It was after the income and expenses page, but I think this hasn't shown for some people. For me it didn't work. I've now been approved :).

  • Supplementary card holders should be ok? Annoying that live chat isn't open to non-account holders.

  • How do I know if I've successfully applied through Points Hacks? Will there be some sort of confirmation? I've clicked apply from the PH link, but just want to be sure and avoid a mix up down the track.

    • +1

Same question, the welcome pack didn't have information about bonus points

      • Any one find out about this yet? Didn't get any indication of the bonus after getting approval…

        • +2

I just called up Amex, they said I'd definitely get those bonus points and the annual fee back once all those conditions been met. They said the welcome pack usually doesn't cover the those information if it's applied via a third party

  • Is it possible to downgrade your credit card limit down the track? e.g. If I sign up for $10,000 card limit now and a few months later I want to decrease the limit to $3000 to help my borrowing capacity with banks. Has anybody done this before? Or would you just close the credit card and open a new one

    • Yes you can decrease it

  • arrhhgghh. Website threw up an internal server error on the upload documents page. Don't want to have get hit with another credit inquiry.

    • called up, was able to sort out over the phone.

      • I didn't see any uploading of documents section? Where did you see this?

        • page after entering employment details. The page tossed up an internal server error. I spoke to someone on the phone who verified employment income and was able to approve the application on the spot.

  • Do you get lounge invitations only after doing the minimum spend or is it after first transaction?

  • -3

Asking for a friend, who is a part-timer. Earns around 30k. What are the chances of getting approved? I know min income is 40k. Is it worth giving a shot?

  • Just got the card, anyone know where can I check my Qantas frequent flyer account is linked to the card?

    • I had to use their live chat to get them to confirm as i couldn't find it anywhere. Live chat was really quick though.

    • How long did it take for the card to arrive after being approved?

  • Does Amex still let you offset carbon in order to get the lounge pass?

  • Does Tap & Pay/Contactless payments still recognise these cards as AMEX cards if added through Google Pay or similar?

    • Yep, I have other cards and on receipts it always says the card type/bank. I received the Amex card today and in my accounts it has "Digital wallets" and it has Google Pay registered so I think Amex also knows you're using the digital wallet (to be eligible for the $249 cashback).

      • Yep, Amex says there's no problems adding the card to Google Pay.
But as I understand it, Google Pay creates a virtual card number for that particular card.
I was wondering if the actual Eftpos machines could tell it was an Amex card being used.

        • +2

To answer my own question and for anyone else wondering, yes the Eftpos machine does know that you're using an Amex card via Google Pay

      • How long did it take for the card to arrive after being approved?

        • Around 4 working days, I'm in a metro area.

  • Applied Saturday. Card received today!

    Gotta love Amex processing times!

  • Just received my card and guess what my card limit is $35k??? i can purchase a car with this card!!

    • I personally never go with maximum limits. Just in case I end up in Vegas one day and go a bit too wild lol

      • I am just amazed how reasonable banks applying credit limits. anyway called them and get it reduced to $6K

        • From my experience amex is always pretty generous, my first time I applied with them 19 months ago, they offered me $50K…I will take that up when I buy my next car and make sure they accept American Express lol

  • Has anyone paid for their $AUD Aliexpress order with Amex via Paypal? I hope Amex isn't going to charge me international fees, completely forgot about this, ughhh.

    • I have multiple times and no overseas charge… I'm worried they might charge it when the statement ends though. Is that a thing?

  • Anyone know if you can use the carbon offset with Qantas to get the two lounge pass?

  • I cancelled my last card on 5th Jan 2020. Called AMEX and they said i should apply by Aug, not sure why. Isn't 18 months 5th July 2021 ? I want to apply for this offer but not sure now after my call with their customer care. Can anyone guide me ?

  • Applied last Thursday, arrived today. Just in time for car insurance & rego renewals! Cheers.

  • If it hasn’t been 18 months since your last bank issued Amex, will you be denied a card, or given a card without the offer?

    • See the post, it has your answer.

  • +1

Spent 3k on the weekend. Points are showing already.

    • Did you also get the 249 AF back?

      • Haven’t made enough Apple Pay purchases so no. But also haven’t been charged the fee yet either.

  • For those vaguely tempted by the travel insurance, there's a $250 excess on claims. Something I've found pretty major given if you, say, lost your sunglasses on a holiday, it's simply not worth claiming.

    • No different to other cc complimentary insurances. Everyone would be claiming everything if it was free.

      • For most CCs, but Platinum Amex card has only $50 excess and Coles Platinum Mastercard, believe it or not, has no excess on its extended warranty feature. I called them up as I couldn't quite believe it, and the guy confirmed. Of course, no points if you're buying the item from a non-Coles-affiliated store, so it's best used on items costing less than $50.

  • Damn.. Its time to damage my credit scores.

  • +1

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about cancelling Qantas American Express Premium which I've signed up August last year as I have already received the bonus QF points in my QF account. However, I've read about Amex doing clawbacks on those points if you cancel within a year. https://thepointsguy.com/guide/what-are-clawbacks-and-why-do…
Does anyone have any experience/advice on this particular issue?
