Controversial, but (as Sony XM3 owner I feel I can stay this) I think these should be their natural price. Circa ~200 up to 220 is about what they're worth IMO

    • +2

      Why's that?
Also, are you referring to the overears or buds?

      • +2

overears, apologies I should have made that clear.
        The sound quality is ordinary.
ANC is incredible, no doubt but they're overly bass heavy but not in a good way. Very muddy.

        • +1

Agreed. Tbh, I have the 1st Gen and I reckon they sound way better. They definitely dropped in quality

          • @giventofly: Ditto for H.ear On versions 1 and 2 - both sound better than version 3 (they reduced driver size from 40mm to 25mm) and better than WH-1000XM4 that I bought and returned. Even my MDR-1ABT released 6 years ago (the original LDAC headphone) still sounds much more refined that the the current lot. But whatever Sony is doing is obviously working for them. Who could have predicted 5 years ago that Sony would end up being the new Beats?

            • @elektron: The average selling price of the Gen 1 were also over $500, so there's that..

            • @elektron: Ouch. I wouldn't go that far as to call them the new beats lol

With equalising, they sound better. But it's a shame regardless that they're a step down in SQ

        • I own the XM3's and tbh its a really good, balanced sound profile. Not having a bass heavy headphone is refreshing, ever since beats came out with theirs and everyone else seem to follow suit.

          Xm3's are definitely not muddy.

    • And what should be the "natural price" for the Airpods Max?

      • All I can say after using bose and taotroics ANC headphones, the price we pay is for the brand logo doesnt reflect in quality as much as we expect. So i assume airpod max's natural price should not be more than $100.

        • TaoTronics suck. Don't know why they get so much praise. ANC is very ordinary, SQ below average. Gave mine to my mum.

          Referring to these https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084MKNGSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_g…

Airpod Max reviews are pretty much just praise across the board. They're pretty much best ANC on the market, best Transparency Mode on the market, and top tier sound. Still overpriced, but definitely worth more than these Sonys.

          • @MrFunSocks: They do cost more than the Sonys. Like 3-4 times more.

            • @elektron: I was responding to a guy saying that brand doesn't matter, all you're paying for is the apple logo, and these should be no more than $100.

These are expensive, yes, but they're pretty much the best on the market so you're going to pay for that.

      • C'mon, too few downvotes for asking a question I was genuinely interested in.

      • no idea, I've never auditioned them.

    • +2

The market will judge what they're worth.

Nice price of you don't worry about multi device support

    • Thinking of buying, can you explain what do you mean of multi device support ? Thanks a lot

      • something to do with Switching between multiple devices quickly

      • Connect to phone and laptop at once, while watching Netflix on laptop, you and answer incoming calls from phone without any problem

      • Lookup mkbhd review of xm4s…. You'll see what multi device support means.

        • As these support NFC I never had issues switching between devices. I just tap my phone on and it's connected. When I have to use with my laptop, I just disconnect my phone by tapping again and connect from laptop Bluetooth settings.

  • XM3 work nice with consoles using Gulikit adapter off Amazon or eBay.

  • Bought a set of these refurbished of Sony eBay only issue with them the battery life only lasts barely 3 hours, otherwise sound quality and noise cancelling is great, they do come with 12 months warranty just been too lazy too claim warranty and replace them for another pair

    edit: the WF1000XM3 Earbuds

    • Oh mine also lasted for 3 hours only.

    • I think this is about normal for mine too, although the battery case provides another 3 or so charges.

  • WF-1000XM4's came out today, so i'd expect these to drop further. I have a feeling the 'seconds' is just a ploy so that their retailers don't have to pricematch it. Reports seem to suggest they're unused still in packet examples, probably just using it as an outlet to clear stock.

Still have the WH-1000XM3's and they're still going strong

Having said that the price is good.

    • $450 RRP for the new XM4s, surprised they priced it above AirPods Pro, seems like an impressive update though

      • -1

Yeah the pricing is a bit outlandish.
But with anything Sony the i feel the normal price will be closer to $350 once it gets to market. Still not exactly reasonable for two little earbuds. I'd be inclined to go the airpods for this money.

WF-1000XM4's came out today, so i'd expect these to drop further.

Doubt it - the XM4's are targeting a completely different price bracket to the XM3's. The XM3's are now in Galaxy Buds territory despite being much better than them, also cheaper than the base Airpods (though yes, I'm aware there's an Apple tax).

For the WH, I agree with you as the XM4 seems to be very comparable to the XM3. For the WF, I don't find them to really be competing with each other.

  • Bought from Sony eBay on a seconds MX4 deal a while ago. The headphones were faulty and took 67 days to sort out. Only just received a working pair last Friday.

  • Any advise for a good wireless headphones for movies/shows <$400? I don't need noise cancelling, multi device support or long battery life (got about an hour each night anyways). Preferably open-backed but not mandatory if sound is good.

  • I once bought "new"xm3's from sony ebay store and it was clearly 2nd hand there was earwax still on the buds, no thank you!

  • Beaware they sell all their broken products via this ebay account

I got the Sony WF1000XM3 a bit over a month ago,

They sent me a broken pair, had a clicking sound in right ear, it took 3 weeks for them to replace it with another broken pair. This one is worse, audio sounds crap it has no noise cancelling. Asked them to exchange it. They said it's their policy to refund… as if their broken headphones aren't really broken, and I"M just an annoying customer.

Never buying anything from them again. They are actually broken products. Not all will be, but they obviously aren't checking the faults that people claim they're just onselling them as refurbished

  • The black WH are OOS, I'm assuming the silver is as well

  • Missus got a refurbished WH1000XM3 from a previous deal. I use it with PC. It is really good and only thing makes it refurbished is the "Seconds" sticker on the box. Otherwise, looks and works perfectly like a brand new one.

  • +2

Very mixed reviews on the "seconds" here. Putting me off….

    • +1

getting a broken product replaced with a broken product is beyond coincidence. While bad luck is still on my side, they're obviously just assuming people returning their new products are all idiots, not checking them and reselling on this ebay account
