Ainol Novo7 Aurora 16GB Android 4.0 7" Tablet $175.99USD Free Shipping

400

This is a new tablet recently released on January 14th by Ainol. The guts of the machine are below for those who dont want to click the link.

CPU All Winner A10, 1GHz; GPU: Mali 400
Operation System Android 4.0 (ICS)
RAM 1GB,DDR3
Nand Flash 16GB
Shell Material Plastic
Screen Size 7 Inch IPS, made by HITACHI
Type Capacitive Screen
Resolution 1024 x 600
Visible Angle 180°
Product Size 189 x 123 x 9mm
Product Weight 313g

It doesn't come with market preinstalled but some guys at slatedroid.com have been able to hack on market with full functionality. What pushed me for the purchase was the IPS screen which is the same screen used by iPhone and iPad and its super slimness at 9mm. A review is included below.

Not too sure about the store reputation. The 8GB version is also available at Pandawill for $167

Merimobiles.com seem to be shipping without problem to the users on slatedroid.com however they are a bit more expensive at $174.99 Free shipping for the 8GB version. Link to them

  • There's a bit of feedback on Chinagrabber here:
    http://www.apad.tv/apadforum/showthread.php?1403-Still-Waiti…

  • Looks like a good buy. The screen seems good quality which is hard to find on a budget, and importantly it can run ICS. Ainol have been around awhile, but I can't stand their name, it makes me think of Anusol.

    • maybe Novo 7 Aurora sounds better?

  • Good for a cheapie.

  • +9

Buy Ainol… forever be the butt of your friend's jokes :P

    • +7

The company has an interesting slogan … "Enjoy Life, Enjoy Ainol" ..!

A friend has the previous model (I think it's caled the Ainol Paladin), which also had ICS. Seemed like a solid unit for the price.

    • Don't knock it til you've tried it…

  • "The 16gb Aurora is In Stock!
    ….
Only the 16gb Aurora is in stock now. "

    should update price and title,
Per Unit Price: $175.99 is for the 16 in stock

    any feedback about pandawill site?

    • Updated bargain.

I ordered one from pandawill by ems express shipping. Will update how that goes

      • Ordered one from them on the 25th Jan and still not shipped.

  • I'm guessing its Wifi only right? Couldn't see it on the site, maybe because I'm on my phone

    • +2

      WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n
3G: Not built in, support 3G/WCDMA dongle

Seems decent. Personally I'm gonna wait for the Asus MeMo 370t, $250 quad core Tegra3, 1280*800 7" display.

    http://androidandme.com/2012/01/devices/asus-memo-370t-could…

We'll see how the market goes.

    • any expected date for it?

      • Unless Asus have been foxing with timeframes, if we're lucky it might arrive here in May.

    • $250 in the US maybe, once it gets here expect that price to rise.

    • Expect it to be at least $400 here.

Aussie retailers are going to hype it up like

"its quad core! it has a 1280x800 IPS display"

    • +1

At current rates $250 USD = $233AUD, so I wouldn't buy it from here if they pull a major dodgy.

I'm not sure on the release date, I thought it might be over the next couple of months but can't be too far off.

      • Have you ever bought anything from Australia? We always pay a lotore then the fair exchange rate. I'd expect $450-$500

        • +1

Are you implying I'm not aware of the usual old markups? :) Maybe 5 years ago you'd expect a markup in that range, but not today.

Compare iPad 2 - USD $499 price to AUD $569
          Compare Nintendo 3DS - USD $169 to AUD $199
Compare an Xbox 360 - USD $199 to AUD $249

There's the odd exception, but you're living in the past if you think this tablet will come out here at $450 - $500.

      • Gotta factor in tax too. So $250 in the US is really $275 here, before exchange rates/mark ups/etc.

  • edit fail: didnt see 16gb.

  • How's battery life on this?

    • Guy on slatedroid did a battery strain and put the tablet at max brightness, wifi on, cpu at 100% load and it went to flat at around 3 1/2 hours.

      Here's a link to the benchmark http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/28719-benchmarks-ainol-novo-…

      • For full a bore run that could be worse. Cortex A8 processor cores are not battery-life friendly like A9 cores are - but all up - given what else is on offer from this tab, this is a serious bargain.

  • There are just too many models of china tabs with varying specs that it gives me headaches comparing them IMHO!

I own one of the old Anrd v1.6 from when they first came out back in late '09-'early '10 & they sooo painfully slow; never use it now. Looked at some yt vids of the latest ones & its like a 1000% improvement performance wise with the gfx data being offloaded to GPU, less strain on CPU. Won't even mention the countless improvements in other areas. Honestly they have almost everything!

I've held out on getting a new one since then, maybe its time to delve in again…

Android 1.6 to 4.0 is like Windows 95 to Windows 7

    What currency is $175.99 in?

  • I believe most chinese online stores have currency set to USD by default. Some sites auto adjust based on the geographical location of your IP addr.

  • i just changed title to show price as USD

    • Thanks & it was a genuine question (don't really understand why my question got a -1 vote)

  • +2

    Mate,

Chinagrabber has a shocking reputation. Pandwill does not seem to be much better. Suggest you google it.

I was about to order one :(

  • +1

They dont seem very reputable but i did pay by Paypal via pandawill site so it does give a little buyer protection. I've had some sellers send defective goods and ebay and paypal have organised refunds for those.

If not for paypal checkout i probably wouldn't have purchased one.

    • Merimobiles does seem to have a better reputation. Maybe when they get stock of the 16gb version it'll be more keenly priced than the 8. They're riding on high demand at the moment I suspect.

  • seems a great buy. i have been waiting for transformer prime for months, i guess it will take another few months that the price of prime will drop and can be easily ordered here or from overseas. maybe i just sell my rarely-used mytab and grab this one instead?

  • Well I've placed an order using Paypal with UPS/DHL shipping, so we'll see what time frame it gets here in. Seems like a pretty great tablet for just over $200

  • +1

Have a look our forum's link for good info( http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62265 )

  • Guys I am confused. it seems the CPU is differenet between the 2 sites:
    1.2Ghz http://chinagrabber.com/ainol-novo7-aurora-android-4-0-table…
    1.5Ghz http://www.merimobiles.com/Ainol_NOVO_Aurora_IPS_HD_screen_I…
    Is it a typo?

    • i would say 1 gighz, if u want it stable……. more than that might crash

  • ooh and this link says its 8GB. yet they say 16GB only in stock, but can't find the 16GB listing.
    http://chinagrabber.com/ainol-novo7-aurora-android-4-0-table…

    • +1

      There's a drop-down button to select the 16gb.

  • I've been reading that it is capable of 1.5ghz but limited to 1ghz by firmware. Guy on slatedroid was able to overclock his one to 1152mhz

  • bought one from pandawill as soon as it came out. was delivered within 5 days using cheapest delivery. excellent tablet. veryy sleek and light. IPS screen is as good as ipad.clear bright. mine now has market and works very well.
    ,

  • Good price. If you have any mates heading to China, get them to pick one up for you to save more $$$. Think prices ther are 20-30% less than listed here. :-)

Note that the CPU is actually an ARM cortex A8. Allwinner just labelled their product A10.

Still, it's great bang for buck! I want one!

    • I saw them on China e-stores for 799rmb. Thats about $120AUD for the 8gb one.

  • i bought from them using UPS express, received within 5 days.

    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/103919/211396277-525833992/A…

    • all smooth with them?

      • smooth? as in received within 5 days? yeah working days……

        • wondering if the Tab was properly workin too

  • +7

Seems like a pretty nice tab for the price. I'll see if the missus wants a bit of Ainol. Ok I'll leave quietly now :O

  • For the price, this is a great bargain. ICS, great screen and okay specs for this price.

  • To be honest;
I would love to buy this if I had the money.
Specs look great for this kind of price.
Albeit, I actually might want to wait for the Asus MeMo!
For $250~ you even get Tegra 3!
From memory, Asus used splashtop and streamed BF3 to the Transformer Prime and played it there!

Anyways, great price for these specs.

  • The price is very good, and the specs of the tablet make it usable(web, mail, docs),

if only ordering from these websellers was not like playing lotto,
i was goin to order one straight away.

  • How does it compare to the iPad when it comes to finger responsiveness?

    • It uses the same screen so it looks to be on par

  • Just sharing my experience, I ordered a Novo 7 Elf about 5 days ago from pandawill after reading really bad things about chinagrabber. Yesterday, I talked to them, they told me that I would receive the tab in 3-5 days, this morning, I talked to them to see why my order was still in processing status. I got told they were out of stock, and I would be waiting a week before they had any…

On the plus side, I did ask them to cancel the order and got a refund pretty quickly… - Just incase anyone is as impatient as me

  • Well that would explain why the hell my order is just sitting at Payment Received then.

  • So I emailed them and it took them 9 days to reply.
They said that due to unprecedented demand they were out of stock and that their stockist was working hard to catch up from the christmas rush (even though the tablet was released in January). They said it would ship early this week.
We'll see if that happens, else I'm lodging a refund with Paypal.

  • Has anyone received their stock yet?

    • After about 4 weeks still showing as Payment Received, there is no sign of shipping at all. Thinking about Lodge a claim on Paypall.

  • I've been in contact with them and they've been good at replying.
Apparently (and this was put up on their website as a boxout) there had been major manufacture delays at the Ainol factory and when they finally did get stock the vast majority of them turned out to be faulty. So they stopped shipping and Ainol are manufacturing a CORRECT batch that ChinaGrabber say will be completely ok and checked over before shipping. However shipping won't commence until March 15th and even then the 16GB models won't be available.

I asked for a refund and they did it within a few hours, so they seem to be ok with it. If you're willing to wait you'll get your unit by the sounds of it but at this point I don't want to wait any more and I've already bought another tablet.
