    Who would buy a 3080 at $2499?

Lots and lots of people. This is just the past few days.

      It's a cray-cray world.

    • +3

just sayin those GPU prices are gonna crash soon cause crypto has been crashing

      • +3

Crypto has crashed, why is GPU still at elevated level?

        • -2

lol, what world do you live in ? bitcoin at $45k Au and you say crashed, when it hits 1k,you can say crashed

          • +1

@botchie: Not sure why people are down voting this. He has a point. Eth still remains very profitable to mine…

      • +1

        okbuddy

      • Thats why I am waiting… but when? Loosing time and patience. But still not want to spend 2.5k plus extra such as win 10, upgrade cooler and case…

        • fyi Win 10 is free now

          • +1

@fafsdfadfabcfbc: How can I get it free?

            • @TigerWoops: I've confirmed this myself because it's what I've done on my main computer: https://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key….

Basically you install it by downloading from Microsoft and never activate. It fully works except for not being able to change the background and it has a very faint message on the bottom right hand corner. I've been using it like this for over 2 years. All windows updates work, feature packs, everything. They have basically given up and prefer people use non-activated windows instead of pirating it.

              • +1

                @fafsdfadfabcfbc: Great!! Thank bro.

                • @TigerWoops: You can just find any windows 7 key except for windows 7 ultimate keys from my experience and it will activate windows 10 an unlimited amount of times and machines

  • What brand/models of 3080s will there be? Basically just hoping to avoid a Gigabyte one due to their PCB layout.

    • What's wrong with Gigabyte's 3080 PCB layout? I don't see an issue with it and it's better than the reference design. The only one that barely meets the reference design requirement is EVGA XC3.

      • +1

Gigabyte 3080 thermal pads are made out of cheese.

They leak oil and have similar thermal conductivity.

Fine for gaming. Not ideal for mining.

        • i mean even for gaming they are sub optimal
i had one (bought for $1750 sold for $2500) memory was hitting 98-100 degrees with the fans at 50% playing some games
          no oc or anything
i swapped them out with some arctic pads i got from amazon, crazy 15-20 degree drop in temps when gaming
those pads were fkn oily and mushy as heck

        • You replace the thermal pads with 8-13W/mk, there are heaps of videos on how to do it.

        • They're also practically the only 3000 series cards still using sleeve bearing fans, maybe Galax as well.

        • I'm waiting for a TF 3080 which is likely gigabyte
Would you recommend switching out the pad for mining? That would void warranty right?

        • Agree. Gigabyte 3080s absolutely suck. Mine died after 3 weeks of use, with screen artifacts and vertical lines. No mining was done either.

Take this with a grain of salt, but my friend who works at a major PC shop says most of the 3080 RMAs are Gigabyte.

          • @kd4314: That's pretty concerning….maybe should've gone with a more reputable pre-build….

      • Gigabyte 3000 series cards have a bad reputation with needing to be returned under warranty, and then there's no card to replace with or huge delays. Is that reputation unfair or is that behind them? Not sure

      • They use a weird power connector extension, so the 8pins do not directly connect to the PCB. Not optimal when I plan to watercool & use sleeved extensions.

    • It will vary - can't really tailor to individual PGU requests the same as other components if I haven't specifically listed it, within our business model.

      • Understand that it'll vary but was hoping to see the list of possible brands you guys have on order for this deal, to see if it's worth the lottery :P

All good if that's not finalised/doable though.

  • +7

    "PRIME3080" lol

Not my most creative but gotta keep it relevant

  • +1

So if I choose 5600x and X570 wifi will I get the X570 Aorus Elite WiFi?

    • We will likely have both Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite and Asus Tuf X570 WiFi in July - I can't guarantee a particular brand/model if I haven't listed it specifically in the specs list, but you can request it and we'll do our best.

      • +11

        Hm.

Can you do anything about your upgrade prices?

Mobo: Techfast upgrade price $239, Buy new from Amazon $249
CPU: 5600x upgrade price $300, Ozbargain has it hitting $375

I'm happy to pay a premium.. but that's like buying twice mate.

        • agree upgrade prices need adjustment .

        • +9

You realise this is how they make their money right?

        • that's the model lol, they make money on the upgrade

        • +1

Not on this particular deal. We can work discounts into complete systems, but can't match Prime Day or other deals on components because there's a bunch of clearing going on in the industry because everyone's being forced to take MBs to get their hands on cards, so they need to dump them at or below cost. Those prices are below our costs. It's quite a good time to be in the market for a mobo, psu etc now

          • @luketechfast: Once the orders for x570 are in you know how many you need.. Just order from Amazon?

I've put my order in with a note to either have the aorus x570 or default b550.

            • +2

@justtoreply: Ordering from Amazon is not a recipe for a large-scale, sustainable operation in this space. Credit terms, delivery times, applicable rebates etc etc. We buy from the same major Australian IT distributors as everyone else.

Any SFF ITX builds with no GPU?

    • i'll buy it with a GPU (that doesnt fit) and sell you the ITX build? :D

      • how much?

        • i dont think they would do a SFF build with a 3080 at a decent price :)

  • +3

Thanks … Was going to pull the trigger on a 3080 but decided to just buy a whole PC instead.

  • Hmm, struggling to decide between sticking with my 5600x+3070Ti order, or switching to this 3600+3080… it'll be CPU limited but thats not a difficult upgrade down the track…

    • +1

Will be GPU limited at 1440p and 4K. 3080 will get you more fps and as it has more vram it may last a little longer.

    • +1

It won't be CPU limited at all if your only concerned about gaming at 1440p / above.

Go check some YouTube videos on the difference between an i3 10100 vs an 10900k when gaming at 1440p/4k - the GPU will essentially always be the bottleneck for these higher resolutions.

The 5600x offers noticeable gains at 1080p whe pushing bulk frames, also in productivity workloads due to the higher IPC. But for productivity workloads you would ideally want more cores than a 5600x anyway.

      • Listen to this post.
You might squeeze a few more frames out of a 5600 or whatever, but if you want to play high end 4K games the 3600 considering price/performance is more than fine.
        I'm running a 3600 w/ RTX 3080 and it's absolutely great.
If you want some insane 240fps 1080p/1440p situation then sure, CPU might be an issue, but that's an unusual use-case .

I'm confused, even from the very first game in this benchmark video a difference of 21 frames from 88 (or 24% gap) between i3 10100 and i7 10700F which still lags a lot behind the 10900k, how can you say it's not CPU limited? Comparing 10100 to 10900k will be close to a 30% difference at 1440p. That is absolutely huge

        • Lol yeah I agree the 10100 to 10900k is a bit of an exaggeration. But in terms of how many frames that measly is CPU is capable of pushing with its cruddy 4 cores and prissy clocks its still impressive. notice how the gap is only that 20-25% larger to the 10700f in only CPU heavy games.

I think its worth noting that in some later examples in that clip of of less CPU heavy games the i3 is still totally capable. The later half of the video you linked still shows one case with no difference between the 10100f and 10700f, and a few cases where the difference between the 4 and 8 core CPU that is clocked higher and is double the price narrows up to around 10%.

Overall for clarification id recommend a 10400f at the minimum (which is incidentally techfasts base spec intel processor for 30 series builds) and agree the i3 10100 was a pretty extreme example. I still think its punching above its weight class seriously though ;)

I'm sticking with 3070Ti as I'm not planning on doing 4K gaming. The money saved is going towards faster RAM and an NVMe SSD.

      • +1

No worries. Faster ram won't make a huge difference above 3200mhz. You will want to add more storage above 480gb though. The 3080 offers around 25% better frames in games than the 3070ti system at about the same % price increase overall between the 2 systems. It does however have about 2x the mining capability/profit if that was a factor for you at all.

        • -1

It's not all about gaming for me and certainly not mining. I already have quite the sophisticated homelab so having some new GPU processing power will help.

          • @Clear: Sorry thought you were the original OP! Each to their own of course :) I just like to dispel the myths when gamers massively overspend for a couple % better performance. If you have other use cases that see noticeable benefit having slightly faster ram, go for it!!

            • -3

              @Canberralad92: 3800MHz CL14 is a sweet spot for Ryzen RAM ;)

              • @Clear: Wow imagine thinking 3800MHz CL14 RAM is slow. Let's just use DDR2 instead. It's a good thing we don't discriminate here.

  • +3

Good price for non LHR 3080, well done to techfast in the current climate. Getting closer to that original $1998 deal ;)

If you don't care about LHR and already have a working system, I'd be willing to hold out a bit longer as those limiyed cards really aren't that desirable to miners or scalpers and prices will only get closer to RRP.

Also if your gaming at 1440p or above and only care about gaming performance this system offers nearly identical performance to more expensive 5600x variants.

The 29 dollar upgrade to the mag forge case is the only upgrade I wouldn't go without. The Lance v has good airflow and does the job but will be a nightmare the minute you open the case and want to add an extra drive. Its also pretty noisy and uses very thin panels.

    • Where did you find any info on this case at all? I can't find anything on it!

I'm trying to find what usb ports are on the front of the case. Even by looking at a video will do.

      • I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm guessing its 1x usb3 and 2x usb 2. Might be the other way around bit. I'm sure many ozbargainers would be able to confirm

        • Thanks. No help so far tho. Unfortunately the lance-v is the only one I don't find as ugly as sin. Don't want to miss out..

    • mag forge is ugly though, go the new one. TF "accidentally" built mine inside the case I never chose xD

  • +1

Anyone know what usb ports are on the top of the Lance-V case?

  • Sorry if this is a noob question but how does this pc compare to the i7 build here?
Is the 3600 much better than the 10700?? I need a pc for 3d modelling and coding as well as gaming, and I'm confused as to what I should get.

    • Ryzen is currently the best cpu product for consumer. Intel has been irrelevant these day.

      • Aight thanks for letting me know.

        • +2

Don't listen to the above, the 10700 is a better chip than the 3600, significantly faster single core performance and has an extra 2 cores

          • @cille745: The 10700 isn't better. It can't do xmr hash rate higher than the Ryzen 3600. Be a fan of good products. Not a fan of brand loyalty.

Mind you I had core 2 quad and Intel i5 systems. I'm happy to jump which ever has the better product per dollar. The Ryzen 3600 was the best value cpu and still currently is.

            • +3

@ChickenAdobo: "Be a fan of good products, not a fan of brand loyalty"

You're literally going against what you've said. They needs a computer for 3D modelling, coding and gaming, all of which is better on the 10700, of course you can get the 3600 cheaper, but the cost difference between the two systems is $500. No point in paying more for something that will be worse for what I assume is work from home.

Wow it can do one crypto hash rate higher, than the 10700, doesn't change the fact that the 3600 is literally worse for everything else

              • @cille745: I'm a student now so the work isn't too intense, but that'll most likely change once I graduate and get a job. What you said about the 10700 seems to be the sentiment in the other replies, so thanks for the input.

            • @ChickenAdobo: Lol imagine mining on a CPU. Blanket statements of 'Ryzen better hurr durr' really depend on the price your paying, and your use case.

Not to mention your comparing a r3600 to a 10700 which are significantly different products.

      • +2

Not so much for gaming. The 11400f or 10600k are the best value gaming chips, although they use quite a bit more power than AMD. But Intel doesn't have an answer for the 5900x/5950x.

    • +1

For gaming this system offers much better price/performance to the 10700/3070ti. The 10400f variant is a little better value for gaming only but I'd personally be going for a 3080.

      • Thanks for your thoughts

    • The 3080 is way better than the 3070 Ti. If the 3600 isn't sufficient, Ryzen has a lot of upgrade paths to do multithreaded workloads.

    • +1

A 10700 would be much better for you than a 3600

For gaming - no practical difference
For 3d modelling- 10700 has 8 cores, it will provide approx 30% more performance in rendering workload

If you want MORE than 8 cores, you will need to choose AMD 3900x or 5900x, but that is a different price range

      • Ok thanks, I'll look into it.

  • -3

Can you imagine if GPU prices fall 1k in 6-12 months?
Everyone who has bought a PC will be crying 👀😬

    • +4

This was the mentality back in September 2020, heard some of those people are still waiting

      • +1

Yeah, fair enough but I'm not desperate like most people.

My PS5 is fine for basic gaming. Different story if you work in design, or play games 8 hours a day.
