  • I think with the upcoming shopback cashback offer you can get $20 back, so it’ll be $229

    • Does Cashback apply for this item as I have tried to claim it but does not seem to come up on the checkout?

      • It was a promotional offer from 4-5 pm yesterday only to get $20 off

        • ahhh thanks for letting me know.

Appreciate it as spent hours trying to make it work lol.

          • @chrisgr3: If you didn’t buy it already, there’s another promotional offer today between 4-6pm
So you have another chance. This time it’s 12% cashback capped at $20

  • There was also a promotional link to save a extra $10 if you redeem it and buy it via the Amazon Shopping App. Not sure if that's because i've never used it however. So i paid $239.

  • This or the Duet?

    • +10

Given the Duet is a Chromebook but can also run Android apps, comes with a detachable KB, 4GB RAM (compared to this one's 3GB), and only $50 more at the moment… Does someone have a reason for the Tab A7 over the Duet?

      • +3

Have the Duet and would definitely buy it again over this!

      • The duet is a far more capable device with system updates till what was it 2028 or something, I highly doubt this device would get is updates past 2022

Edit found that it has support from Google till 2028, most devices I think would be in landfill by then.

      • +1

Can you even stream FHD Netflix/Prime on Chromebook via App and not via webpage? Tablets and Chromebooks have different use case.

        • Just got my Duet, watching Prime via app in FHD on it right now.

"Tablet" is a form factor. The Duet is a Chromebook tablet. And since it's one of the Chromebooks that can run Android apps, I reckon it could do just about anything an Android tablet could. Hence my question above.

          • +1

@TimeOrMoney: Did Amazon finally fix that? Because up until January this year both Netflix and Prime Video still won't play FHD on Chrome OS app.

Anyway, Google Chrome OS isn't perfect and leave a lot to be desired. Samsung did a lot of optimisation to bring Android App to its tablet, because unlike Apple Android Apps doesn't bother to deal with tablet or Chromebooks at all. Your Duet doesn't have SD Card slot, it doesn't have the option for 4G like with tablets as well (though we are talking about Wifi tablet here so this doesn't matter). It has worse speakers (quad speaker on the A7, not great but surprisingly decent). It also doesn't have headphone jack while the Tab A7 does. Tab A7 is slightly more compact with thinner bezel, with somewhat better front camera for video chat. As you can already see, the Tab A7 is more purposely built for media consumption while Lenovo is more for productivity hence the included keyboard.

I purchased the Tab A7 64GB last year on Samsung Education Portal for $305 with a free Samsung Book Cover. At that point none of the Chromebook can stream FHD on Apps.

    • +1

Also looking into both right now

Edit: Ok so I want something for YouTube and browsing around the house, pretty much just YouTube, browsing. The tab has much much better speakers, the lenovo speakers sound really crap on reviews I saw on YouTube so that I guess was a deal breaker for me otherwise I probably would have gone with the lenovo because it has a much better screen and vanilla ChromeOS vs Samsung OneUI.

Is this a better tablet? More real estate on the front

Hmm seems to be the same size actually…

    • +7

      2GB RAM. - Pretty poor
Most devices are sitting on 4-8GB+ RAM now

  • Can you play Pokemon Go on this?

    • +13

u can play kfc Go on this

  • +6

Junk too slow. There's a reason why it's cheap. I have the 3GB version and it's still jerky

    • 2018 iPad will outperform this.

      • 2015 Xperia Z4 Tablet will leave this for dead too

    • +3

      This is the 3GB version.

  • I wish they sold the silver/white version

  • I tried to post this deal this morning, but get noticed that if the exact product with the same link was posted on Oz within 30 days then just need to report Admin. I did report as instructed and now I see your post OP =)))

    • It seems I had missed the conditions of 'same or similar price'. Poor me for missing a valuable post on OZ :)

  • I have the 64GB version of this, my only real complaint so far is some motion ghosting. i.e. when watching soccer especially (little white trail with ball). I'm super sensitive to this sort of thing, others might not even notice it. My old Galaxy note 10.1 2014 screen was noticeably superior, i wish it didn't die last month. Overall value wise though this is fine.

    • +1

Your galaxy note would have had a bettery screen. Tab A series sit below the galaxy S range.

      • +1

Yeah, still, it was a mid range tablet back in 2014 (cost me $400ish on sale new back then)… guess they don't make'm like they used too :D

        • +1

I'm still rocking my old 10.1 2014 too, thing is amazing. Way better than most new tablets now apart from the older software

  • +1

New batch of Samsung tablets will be coming soon.

    • +1

Just the S7 FE and A7, nothing in the 10" low end market

      • And by all accounts the S7 FE will be close to $1000.

The A7 could be OK, but its periously close to the S6 lite in price for a lot more tablet.

  • If only the lte variant.

    • Telstra offering that for $264

  • I purchased it this early morning from Telstra. Telstra has 32gb wifi+4g version. $264. I am not sure 4g is worth and pay $35 more. (Including cashback wifi version would be $229)

    • Does lte version have more ram?

    • 4g version outright or contacted!

      • Outright

  • +3

I expect these are being run out in favour of the newer but worse specced A7 lite model that has just been released apparently.

    https://www.androidpolice.com/2021/06/18/samsungs-galaxy-tab…

I have 2 of these that I'm using as smart home light controllers and they have premium build quality and perform just fine. I'm a bit shocked how cheap they are / were.

If you want the ultimate in performance then get an iPad 2021 pro but they start at $1650 but I'm not really sure what it can do that this one can't. CAD perhaps but if I wanted ultimate performance I'd be buying a desktop.

Anyway, these are great value if you're after value.

  • I'm guessing this would be a downgrade from Tab S4?

    • +1

      Yes, a significant one.

  • +7

Is it just me, or this prime day is not appealing at all?

    • +2

      Same, very disappointing.

    • +5

Nappies and laundry soaps all day

    • +1

I got Tabasco for $2.27. Best deal yet. :)

      • Yup, Chipotle ones never go on sale at woollies.

    • Yes, hasn't been anything worth worrying about. But that is the same for most 'sales days'.

  • skip it.

  • I was tossing up between this and Telstra $264 4G deal but pretty happy to go this way with 2% gift cards for another $5 off so $225 total. Was close to grabbing it for $318 from Big W with kids headphones and case over the weekend but they def weren’t worth the extra $93 so my bank account is very happy they had sold out online and locally day 1 of the toy sale!

  • this only has a teeny tiny 8" screen

    • 10.4

      • Amazon page has an error with …"Display: 8.0-inch touchscreen, 2000 x 1200 pixels"

  • price matched with JB

  • -1

Thought the Telstra deal is better?

  • will this work with S-Pen?

    • No

      • thank you. no reason to buy this then i guess. Shame that even normal ipads support apple pencil

  • Its still hard to recommend an android tablet over an ipad, even a second hand one from a few years ago that sits in the same price range. Apple has android completely beat on the tablet side of things.

    • +7

What does Apple have around the $250 range?

      • It's comparing apples and oranges (pun intended)

No idea why people are comparing a budget tablet with an Apple device.

        • +2

Yeah but they said "Apple has android completely beat on the tablet side of things" and I was curious what they had in this price range that they are aware of. Guess there's nothing

      • Did you miss the part where I said second hand in the same price range?

    • +1

Disagree, horses for courses. I have an iPad and Samsung tab S5e. My iPad collects dust now. Samsung kill the iPad in a few areas I specifically care about, better screen (well at least at the lower price point), better speakers, better software…, better app support in the apps I use and better for gaming. The only areas iPad wins are on specific niche apps that I don’t use. I mainly used to use my iPad for browsing, social media, gaming and streaming. I’d found Samsung wins in these areas and can do other stuff that I like to do now like emulating old games.

  • How does it compare to Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab FHD Tablet, 10.1-Inch?

On Amazon its $199 from $390.

    • +1

I saw that one too but its stuck on Android 9, and we are close to getting 12 released. It probably doesnt make a huge difference but i just cant buy something brand new with such old software!

      • With the Lenovo we cant upgrade Android?

        • +1

Very very unlikely Lenovo will provide updates :(

    • +2

The samsung has a way faster processor but less ram.
They'll probably both be noticeably laggy and slow, just for different reasons.
Screens are the same give or take, but the speakers are better on the samsung
Battery's better on the lenovo, lower power processor after all.
Lenovo might not be certified to do HD netflix if my quick google is to be believed, Samsung definitely can.
And accessory wise it's usually better to go with samsung, like apple, you can typically get cheaper and better quality accessories for samsung devices. It's a scale thing. If you want a case, have a look first.

      • Very helpful info. Just wanted it to watch Netflix and Amazon and if cant watch them then there's no point.

        Thanks!

  • Deal is still active. Just bought one

  • Does Cashback apply for this item?

Cant see it come up when in the checkout?

  • +3

Went back up to $299, just before CR 12% cashback kicked in
    also $318@ Officeworks now

  • Anyone know what the available storage space is out of the box (32GB model)?

    • The Samsung site says - Available Memory (GB) 19.5
