  • Are these better than AU Samsung?

    • +2

      Yes

      • What does even mean?
If you're referring to the brand in general, not necessarily.

        • +4

Probably meant the AU series of TV

          • +3

@fivespice: Ah huh, that makes more sense.
I thought he was referring to Samsung Australia LOL facepalm

          • +2

            @fivespice: Yeah AU series

  • +3

    3 months warranty for refurb?

    • +3

      ACL still applies.

      • From what people say on here once you are out of the eBay returns period it will probably be difficult for get them to comply with the law or their 12 month warranty. If you pay via PayPal I think that will cover you for 6 months at least and PayPal are good in my experience, or your bank would probably cover you for 3 months. Otherwise you might have luck with your state's fair trading organisation.

    • +1

What warranty is provided on purchases?

All items available to purchase on the Official Sony eBay Store are covered by a full 12 month Sony manufacturer warranty from Sony. Sony provides invoices on all purchases via an email with a PDF.

Isn't Hisense Q8 better than this Sony, you can get a new one for less.
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/hisense-h9g-vs-sony-…

    • +3

i was about to buy the 65q8 but there have been reviews that state the q8 has terrible motion, not great if you like sports. Picture quality wise, i did prefer the Hisense q8 over the Sony instore when i compared them side by side

      • +1

I was in the same boat and waiting for a sony 65X9000H to come up, gave up in the end and bought the 65Q8. Cant say I have noticed any issues with poor motion. I've been watching a lot of the Tour de France and the Euro football and its been excellent. No motion issues at all.

        • Same here… picture is brilliant on the 65q8. Not noticed any issues with motion processing.

      • +1

I have 85q8..not bad. I switched off smooth motion. Havent noticed a motion blur at least on my panel.

    • -1

The AU model is inferior to the model (US) that rtings tested :(
      no hdmi 2.1 for starters
edit: oh q8… soz, was thinking of the u8g

    • Don't know about your down votes your receiving but I saw both side by side and went for the Sony as is better for FTA sport regarding motion.

    • I used to work for Hisense.
You really need to stop comparing our models to the US because they aren't the same.

Buyer beware: I brought one and the television arrived heavily damaged and process for return / replacement has been a nightmare.

    • +1

Was the TV packed in original box? Did Sony arrange return free of shipping charge?

      • +6

TV was packaged in a old x9500h box and Sony has ghosted me since raising the issue.

Ask for photo of the television and box and has not responded since.

        • +1

can ebay step in if sony ignore? i payed with afterpay, first payment due in 2 weeks, wonder if they can step in if there are any problems

    • any update on the return process? still going through it or was it successful?

      • +3

Still going through. 7th day today.

        • +1

damn, i guess i have rolled the dice. I was worried about this, but according to sonys ebay feedback, there are also plenty of poeple that received perfectly working tv's, along with some that received damaged tv's

          • @sct911: I wonder if damaged what do they replace with or just refund?
            About to pull trigger.. maybe

          • +3

@sct911: A bit of luck of the draw kind of thing. I think its just fair warning for others that if they decide to purchase it isnt always going to end up being a successful purchase and there is frustration on the other end.

        • Call your credit card company and initiate a chargeback.

        • Ask ebay to step in?

    • Hit or a miss these refurbs.
Ultimately rolling the dice like panel lottery.

      • +4

These are more likely to have been returns from customers that have lost the panel lottery, so if anyone is an enthusiast enough to care I'd say skip it.

My personal thought is the discount isn't enough to warrant the increased risk. While Sony is supposed to be a premium brand, their customer support is pretty mediocre even for brand new purchases - let alone refurbs.

    • Where did you bring it?

  • +2
    • +3

I think it is a bit risky to drop $3k for a refurbished item?

      • +1

        Agree

      • I dont think so. If its faulty, itll be replaced. I have a lot of refurbished items and if its a saving, its definitely worth it. Ive saved 30-50% purchase price on several TVs including an OLED which ran fine for 5 years before I sold it, and my AVR, my speaker system.

I dont think I could find a better way to easily save big money on high end components that comes with a warranty still.

  • +9

A lot of people reporting broken/cracked screen on arrival.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/633986

    • +2

As below, you're taking a risk.
Something tells me Sony don't even look at them and simply on-sell return stock from stores directly to the customer without inspection.
What you really want is box damaged stock (T1).

  • +4

Yup refurbs from Sony can be a risky purchase, always look for 'box damaged' instead as they are normally BNIB with do damage at all.

    • +3

      Exactly this.
Sony will differentiate Box Damage and Refurb.

  • +1

This code also works for the new ones on the Sony site, for 10% or $300. Good deals there.
I'd probably get a new 9500H if I hadn't bought another one recently.

Can be hit and miss with refurbished TVs. If it's a power supply replacement for example can be all good because as it's modular.
But as LED screens vary from unit to unit some people return them if they're unhappy with dirty screen effect or banding. If you then buy as seconds may be hard to return as this effect is subjective and they can say working as intended.

I prefer the idea of the TVs being new and sealed from the overseas factory in good packaging before being opened and handled by random Aussie customers and techies.

  • +1

WOW! So many refurbished Sony TV's. Means the chances of defects in new TV's are pretty high.

    • These may include returns as well. Many people returned the X9000H TVs long after purchase based on the fact that some promised features still haven't been implemented.

  • 75" OOS

  • +4

Damn. Just paid about $60 more for the 65 on the previous deal🤬

Just received it today, have unboxed but not set up yet. Box was used, remote and accessories are not in a bag. Screen looks mint though, will be setting this up this evening to see how it works.

    • +3

awesome, keep us updated, hoping for the best with my 65" order i just put through

      • +1

Update: seems like my initial inspection of the screen was not entirely accurate. Once I put it up on its stand you can clearly see you there is a bend in the top of the screen. The reflections look like something out of a circus fun house. Just for grins and chuckles I turned it on and had a crack at setting it up. The TV itself performs flawlessly, and when it is turned on the bend in the screen is not as noticeable.

I wonder what Sony would say if I wanted to return this one?

        • If you return it, and ask them to replace chances are they’ll send you a new one.

      • I received mine and it is absolutely brand new. However, they texted me on ebay app that they ran out of stock and will cancel my order, weirdly though couple days later I received a tracking number and the tv was delivered yesterday.

        • That's great to hear mate, you're one of the lucky ones. Sadly it took weeks to get resolution for my issues. At first they told me after wanting pictures of everything sent multiple times to different people that it was physical damage and that it wasn't warranty and that I would have to pay??? I got pretty PO'd and asked them how hard it was to understand that it was broken when it arrived, that I don't want a warranty job I just want something that's not in pieces when it arrives!
Anyway after talking to who knows who in management they finally agreed to either a refund or an exchange. I said if they could guarantee me a good one that wasn't broken I would like another of the same as it's a good unit. They said they couldn't guarantee anything other than another seconds TV… WTF?
Not keen to gamble so I told them I wanted my money back. Now they're telling me that's fine but that due to lockdown in Sydney they can't get to the office where the labels are printed so it'll be a while…
Meanwhile I jumped on the 65" X90J deal at the Sony online store, price matched Costco for $1998 and then got 8% plus another $10 off via Cashrewards. So for a few hundred more I got the new model. I hear it's better in some ways and not as good in others as the older model but at least it's new.

    • which deal is this?

  • +4

Was very tempted to get one but after reading the horror stories seems very risky. Ended up with a new 9500H.

  • +3

i read some comments that in TGG, we can negotiate to get good deal around 75 inch for2400 price range if someone think second from ebay is risky .

  • Is the full array dimming vs the 7000 series worth it? I think the 100Hz vs the 7000 series 60Hz also makes me steer towards the 9000.

Bloody TVs, I always start off thinking I dont care about the difference then im deep in and caring about the differences.

    • I would say so. It helps immensely with contrast. From what I've read it's basically the best experience you can get with a LED display without going to OLED. Given OLED is double the price of full array it was a good compromise.

      • +1

Thank you. Yeah I was thinking about the sweet sweet dark colours involved. I can afford it so I'll just save up more pennies.

        • +1

If you consider the lifespan of a TV it's better to buy something you're happy with rather than something that will "do the job". You'll just resent the purchase later.

I started considering a 2k refurb 75" 900H and ended up with a new 3.2k 75" 950H (it helps when the Minister of household finances approves the purchase and agrees to pay half….)

  • I bought a 65 inch refurb a few months ago. Love it! Although it does not play nice with my cheap soundbar. I'm pretty sure this a common issue though?

    • how long did delivery take?

  • +5

Sony eBay are horrendous not just in the product they provide, but their customer service and response. See comments in6tjis post as well as past posts before buying

    • +4

Highly recommend NOT to buy Sony refurbished product as they are appear not to be tested or quality checked. Bought a Sony ZV-1 camera and it was faulty on arrival. It took @4-5weeks trying to to resolve the issue with Sony ebay and Sony tech team. Finally I gave up and lodged a dispute with paypal and got a refund. It is not worth buying Sony refurbished as you dont know what you will be getting. If possible buy a new TV and save yourself the trouble.

  • +1

    Code is not working anymore

  • +1

I got the 75" few weeks ago, no issue found, happy with my purchase

  • code not working?

    • Do you have eBay Plus?

      • Yeah

        • Yea i just tried as well.

          Code seems to have expired.

  • looks like ebay changed code, now only 5% off with new code

  • Bought the 65" in the previous deal, I'm probably in the minority but thus far there's been no issues. Everything looked 'as new' and they chucked in a few extra batteries too. The TV was set to retail mode when initially turned on but is working a treat across Netflix and PS5.

  • +5

I got mine few days ago and one of the unlucky ones. Someone drew a big circle with a black sharpie/marker pen on the inner side of the panel and cannot be rubbed off. I guess they must have forgotten to wipe off the mark when replacing the panel.

I have been trying to talk to Sony support with pictures and videos and they thought I did the circle to show where the problem is and I had to take more pictures and video to tell them the circle IS the issue.

    • Been circling around the support team and have finally got them to put me into the list of getting replacement. Don't even how long it will take to get a replacement.

  • +1

I got a 75in 2 weeks ago and as it is an oversized item DHL required 2 people to deliver the TV and they HAVE TO call you to confirm the delivery time.

It took them a week in total to pickup from Sony warehouse in NSW Horsley Park and finally delivered in Sydney Metro area.

Regardless of what others reported sometimes a brand new one is delivered, the one I got was clearly being used and packaging was being opened and repackaged.

The TV has on/off cycle of 25 times and been turned on for 125 hours before i adopted it.

Apart from the ridiculously slow delivery of so-called DHL Road Express I am kind of happy for saving a fair bit of money getting seconds.

    • how do you check usage of tv?

      • +3

In standby, press within 2 secs

        • Info
        • 5
        • Vol-
        • Power

3 x 5 digit numbers in the lower left of screen.

        Meaning
        * Operating hours
        * Boot count
        * Panel hours

Add this to description so people can check their orders. Might be a lucky few who get just box damage units

        • +1

Recent 55 inch purchase. Mine has 145 hours / 37 boots (I've probably +10 hours since I got it).

Generally happy with the unit, I keep trying to identify why someone sent it back which is annoying, nothing obvious yet, mostly bugs with the tv. I had to turn on eArc and then off audio sync to get rid of a slight audio delay with my Yamaha soundbar.

Replaced my Panasonic ex750, less impressive picture wise, and weirdly there is more bloom on this FALD, probably because peak brightness is greater.

      • Just to check usage hours can also go to:
        Settings>Device Preferences >About>Status
It will show the uptime. Mine was brand new

  • +3

Buyer beware. Week 3 after receiving one of these with a broken screen. Sent it back, it's in postage limbo and they won't give a refund until they receive it. Good luck.

  • +1

I ordered a box damaged 65X90J during this sale, it came down to $1859. But after seeing all the mixed reviews (no VRR) I'm thinking of cancelling the order. Or might sell it on the marketplace.

  • They just provided me a tracking number via EFM Logistics. I had sent a message to sony ebay to cancel order after hearing so many bad experiences, they never responded

    • I got DHL tracking from them, hopefully it would not disappoint me but this is such a gamble deal ever but can't resist the price for 65"

      • Please let us know how you like the purchase. Cheers.

      • your tracking had any progress? mine hasn't moved and i just got a message from sony after 2 days that they will try and cancel order by trying to contact the 'sony ebay team'

        • yes, on transit DHL express road from Sydney to Melbourne, hopefully no Delta included 😅

        • I'm having mine shipped to Canberra with DHL, and it hasn't moved out of the Sydney depot since Thursday. Haven't received any call to make a delivery booking. I doubt I'll get it until late next week if it takes them a week to do an internal Sydney delivery as suggested above. I purchased mine directly on the Sony store, but they seem to be picked up from the same place.

        • FYI, when i ordered mine, it took 1 week from time Sony issuing the tracking to it arriving at my place.
          Sydney to Sydney.

Cause of the size, DHL will also hold it at the depot until you receive a call from the DHL team to book in a delivery date and time due to the size of anything greater than 20 or 25kg.

  • +1

I ordered a 65", was given a EFM tracking no that never worked on their tracking site. DHL delivered to Canberra within a week of ordering.

I can confirm there was 0 damage to the unit or box, all plastic wrapping still on tv and sealed accessories.

Powering on the unit displayed a 9 minute panel usage time - I believe its brand new.

    Great experience for me.

    • good to know, hopefully mine would be similar case

    • sony also gave me efm tracking, yet dhl called me yesterday, sony are so incompetent, the most annoying thing is their 24+ hours of delayed replying . Never buying from sony ebay again, hope the tv gets here damage free

      • My TV delivery was cancelled today due to driver was running out of working hours despite they called me to confirm 2 days ago, this is getting ridiculous because I have to call them again to rebook another time

  • +1

I received 55 inch one. Box was not packed well and it clearly showed that it is not brand new. However, there are not many marks I saw on screen, just the back side of tv seems bit loose. Maybe someone installed it earlier and returned. It's not brand new but since it's under 1100$ (400 less RRP) can't complain

    • Is the TV working 100%? If it is then I think it is not a bad deal.

      • It's working mate. No issues whatsoever for me.
