Nvidia Shield Pro $279.20 ($0 C&C or + Delivery) @ The Good Guys

1250
TODAY

I think this is one of the best prices for local stock of the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 direct through The Good Guys and without using any other external payment services. It has been cheaper with the previous Klarna offer and the earlier Little Birdie/LatitudePay new customer deal,

Great option if you're pairing with one of the recent TV deals to enjoy Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound through Plex and other similar apps.

Original coupon deal

EDIT: This deal was also originally mentioned here by kirt before I posted it, but I didn't see that comment initially.

    • I went through RMA with my 2020 Shield Pro, purchased originally from Harvey Norman. Contacted nvidia on online chat first, then they escalated and called me on the phone. Sent out a brand new unit via FedEx from Singapore, arrived within a week or so. Good experience.

The only funny thing was the new unit was packed inside a massive carton of a box containing a series of empty boxes, presumably for padding?? I had no idea it was the Shield when the delivery guy arrived. Hilarious but a shocking waste of resources and carbon miles!

    • Yeah i bought one used and after a couple months it just died unexepectly. Nothing i could do at all so lost $170

  • when it says 2019, is there a newer one?

Okay quickly boyz, how is Gamestream/Steam Link over Ethernet and is it worth it at this price?

    • +2

      Definitely. It's sick. I don't have a 4k console, and I don't feel I need one with Gamestream.

Damn that really sounds like sponsored content..

[Edit] Should probably add the obvious caveat that you need a PC capable of running 4k60 to make the most of this setup.

      • which costs much more than a console lol..

        • +2

Well yes, but you get both. So if you are going to have a gaming PC anyway, this just further adds to the value.

          • +1

@fLaMePrO: Also useful for playing a game you bought on PC that you don't want to purchase again for your console.

            • @dotMonkey: Thanks guys for the replies. I am mostly playing older games heavily modded with a GTX 1060, want to stream over to my OLED TV. Gamestream do 1440p / 60fps okay?

              • +1

@Spawn Peak: Gamestream (PC to shield) will smash 4k 120fps on the right network. 1440p 60fps should be easy on any router.

                • @[Deactivated]: Thanks, one final question because I'm getting confused from what I've been reading elsewhere… so with Gamestream, I can both:

                  • Stream my local games (games I'm playing on my PC and streaming locally to the TV)

                  AND

                  • Stream games directly from NVIDIA's servers, with their best settings and hardware doing the gruntwork (GeForce Now)

                  ?

I only ask because I have a few modded games which would obviously require me to just stream it locally from PC to Shield TV Pro on the big telly.

                  • +1

@Spawn Peak: The stuff from Nvidia servers is when you have a subscription to their service, this is not available here yet. It's coming in a beta form soon (I believe this is in Perth only though)

                    • +1

@[Deactivated]: Ah okay thanks. So basically it's just streaming my games locally from my PC to the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro, correct?

My current setup is with Steam Link app on Samsung KS8000, limited to 1080p. If Gamestream can get me a higher quality stream at a higher resolution, I'm all for it.

                      • +1

@Spawn Peak: It is so much better than Steam link. I used to use that on the same TV, this is fully functional.

Absolutely amazing, I play 4k60 (RTX3080) in the media room from my PC that's in the garage (racing simulator) and usually play games like Souls or Nioh 2 with absolutely zero noticeable input lag.

      • Whats your network setup?

        • PC wired to Netgear Nighthawk (in AP mode) which is wired to my Shield. Pretty simple and very effective. I'm using the 2017 Pro, no real need for me to upgrade yet, I'll wait on an even newer model or a dirt cheap price on this model and move my 2017 Pro to my bedroom, wife will love that 😂

          • @[Deactivated]: I think thats my problem - I can't hard wire the shield to my router.

            • @AMrMister: I ran my cables through the ceiling, is that possible?

    • I dunno how the other guys are doing it, I have gigabit ethernet and the lag is unbearable for me.

But I'm used to playing 120fps so maybe it's just me.

      • Something is wrong with your setup then, I play 5120x1440 120fps on my PC but only 4k 60fps on my TV as that's the screen's refresh limit. I recently finished Sekiro on the TV, that isn't a game you can play with lag.

      • Tried Moonlight? I had a bit more success with that. It also gives you more control over what codec to use and how much bandwidth to allow etc

And yeah just to check, you do actually have a TV capable of 4k120? Is that even possible since the Shield doesn't have HDMI 2.1 support?

      • Also make sure TV is in game mode, doesn't always automatically switch for me and input lag is noticeable without it on.

I have a PI running Plex server then Plex player on my TV's WebOS. I'm also running samba as file server. All content stored in an external hdd.

    • What advantage would I have if I buy this?
    • Should this be connected with hdmi to have the best picture quality?
    • I'm waiting for a deal on Sonos ARC. How will this help once I buy an ARC
    • Are there app to run this as a file server?

    Thanks in advance

  • Got one..thanks a million. Been looking out for this for ages, so can remove from my alerts now finally ☺️

Just preparing for its arrival and want to buy extra storage.

Would you buy a 256 Gb SD card or go straight for a 512 Gb? (Mostly for storing kids fav movies)

Saw an Amazon 512 for $75, so not sure if I should go cheap or spend money on a more reliable brand?

Or should I just buy a much larger USB SSD Drive?

Amazing that this now ancient product is still basically the same price as initial launch.

    • Pretty sure this product was unobtainable in Australia for the first two years. We just had the older version dumped here.

isn't this essentually a free standing nintendo switch minus the nintendo games and services?

    • So minus everything that you would buy a Switch for………

      • nintendo games are refering to games made by nintendoe which is about 10 or so games, third party games are all avaliable on the switch as well as the shield becaue they are all PC game ports whcih are on andorid and the switch exact some hardware.

        • If you think android and the switch have the same PC game ports I don't know what to tell you. You're incredibly wrong.

          • @MrFunSocks: type in any "nvidia shield android game" they won't be compatiable with other android games just the shield Doom 3 and half life 2 for example on android only works on teh nvidia shield you can not download it on any other android device. There are alot of PC ports you can only see on teh nvidia shield.

            • +1

@kungfuman: And there are far, far more Switch games that aren't available on the Shield.

  • Just had a call from my local goodguys after i placed my order saying its not in stock?? but they said they will ship it once it comes in. Im confused says its in stock, i assumed they just shipped from a warehouse somewhere not from the actual local store?

    • Did you select click and collect?
Some retailers allow you to select your local even though they're OOS and it will be sent there from the warehouse for collection. I was fooled once by DJ's like this.

  • Got chrome cast on a 42" lcd 1080p toshiba tv (about 10 years old) is it worthwhile to buy this?

    • No. Buy a new TV, you are overdue

    • I'm in the same position and bought one for plex & kodi

  • Worth upgrading from Vodafone TV?

  • Cannot buy it :(

  • Can anyone send me a screen shot of the shield with the price showing I want to do a price protection claim.

  • I ordered as delivery, $5 seemed fair. Gets my local store contact me via phone to advise has been ordered, I assume from supplier. May take some time. I hope it’s not more than a week.
I have a 2017 shield, and it’s more than the remote I’m after.

Getting browsing at full 60hz, then auto frame rate switching in streaming apps. Having Dolby Vision for all sources. AI upscaling.

  • got mine delivered yesterday. been using nvidia gamestream all day. surprised how well it works. im using an ethernet connection with a 20m ethernet cable connected to my pc and another 15m ethernet cable connected to the shield.

games i tested were hades and the surge 2 on my lg bx oled. didnt notice any input lag at all using my ps5 controller. got rid of the stock launcher and replaced it with atv pro launcher so no more ads. really amazing little machine.

heres a guide from changing the launcher https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/comments/o6o5dz/new…

  • Great device so far for game streaming. My advice? Download Moonlight. The quality of the streaming through that application goes far beyond Steam Link, or NVIDIA's own GameStream service.
