For the soy lovers and the lactose intolerant (like me) that love their milk in the coffee a little frothy.
I find that Bonsoy hits the sweet spot between creaminess, texture and taste. I've converted some people over when they were allowed over for a social in NSW!
Not the cheapest it's been but have been hanging for a good homemade flat white as I've run out of Bonsoy.

I've heard some good things about its competitor HHSB so going to give this a go as well (can get this cheaper in bulk from specialist grocery stores if you live nearby for pickup as most charge shipping if under a certain amount)

Bonsoy Price matched at Woolworths
HHSB @ Amazon AU price has gone back up to $25 plus delivery

Updated title as well thanks idonotknowwhy

Hah, funny how the ignorant stay ignorant.

      • +7

If COVID has taught us anything. There's number of ignorant people is much higher than it should be.

    • +8

What? You know people are allergic (as in, anaphylactic shock) to cow's milk, right?
Putting aside any vegan comments, why would you care if there are more alternatives for people with allergies?

    • +1

How good is the childhood of the calves you stole their mothers milk from?

      • -5

        Dunno, pretty good i guess… :\

        • I guess the sarcasm didn't register

    • +4

Is that the same childhood where homophobia and racism were rampant?

        • +3

So you understand those things, but struggle to accept alternative beverages? Fascinating.

            • +2

@dosada: As evident by your fascination of soy milks.

            • +2

              @dosada: Yeah, it was sarcasm.

What other simple things in our modern world do you struggle to comprehend?

Meat-free meat must really get you going!

    • +1

      Stars*

    • Yeah who wants the option of variety anyway, right?

    • +1

"I just want milk that tastes like real milk" -dosada :P

  • +1

Isn't this Aldi's everyday price? And what is S&S?

    • +1

Subscribe and Save and no I dont think so. They have it on special for $3.99 sometimes

    • -2

Nah Aldi is usually like $4.50-$4.80 if I remember correctly. Definitely has a 4 in front and not a 3.

S&S is subscribe and save. So you can opt to get auto deliveries and you get a discount.

      • +6

Aldi is $3.99 as their normal RRP price. I usually buy Bonsoy from Aldi when Woolies and Coles are not on sale.

      • It’s 3.99

  • +4

check out ipantry - buy Bonsoy in 6x1L boxes to save $$$. Also google for their coupon and referral codes for an easy 10-15% off. This way I can usually get Bonsoy for about $3.30/L

    • Melbourne only :(

      • +1

never thought to check! also some regional VIC cities

edit: I have also seen $20-22 pricing for 6x1L boxes at various asian grocers and small supermarkets. Worth checking in your area if anyone has it

  • +3

Same price for the Almond milk, too!
Stocking up as it's long life.

  • +2

    Happy, Happy Soy Boy

    lol…

  • +3

Bon Soy almond milk is also the same price, thanks OP!

    • +1

yeah the almond is good. I've gone off the soy in recent times, kept getting a weird film in my mouth when having my coffees.

  • +3

Fyi, $21.99 at costco for 6 packs

    • Yeah. You can subscribe and save and order 6 for $21.06 with Amazon and free shipping with prime. Dont know why anyone would order the 6 pack with Amazon for $22.68 which you are comparing with costco.

Just realised the 6pk is a different product which now makes sense.

      • +2

My comment is for those who have costco membership and can't remember the price for comparison purpose only.

  • +3

Asian soy milk is the best

    • +5

I know there's lots of different types out there but I wouldn't be making coffee with the soya bean milk I know…

      • +2

"Soya bean milk" wouldn't have the additives that prevent it from curdling when the coffee's acidity hits. Also, tastes pretty raw and that's not to everyone's taste, especially in coffee.

        • Well I think that's the issue.

When you look at the ingredients for these western soy milk or almond milk products you realise there's actually very little beans/almonds in there and it's all additives and crap. I mean have you looked at almond milk and seen ingredients like vegetable oil in there?

Asian soy milk is the genuine stuff, it's basically soy beans and water then sugar to taste. That's it. It's not meant to replace milk or be a milk substitute, I think the western version of calling it "soy milk" throws off Asians who have tried it because they're wondering wtf is this putrid rubbish.

          • @Joxer: I don't know anymore what you're referring to as "Asian" soy milk vs western soy milk.

I was referring to the "Asian" soy drinks that are available in supermarkets in refrigerators, along Bonsoy, Soy boy (both Asian too) and other brands in cartons. The first tastes raw to me, but has not as many extra ingredients, true.

  • +1

    HHSB OOS

  • +1

Isn’t soy boy a sort of derogatory term?

    • +1

Only amongst the edgelord anti-sjw keyboard warriors.

    • Yeah but only if you care what random degenerates on the internet thing.
OP go ahead of them by including it in the title.

      • +3

That term is kind of common in construction yards, right next to "don't be a girl", "(profanity)", "baby boy", etc etc.

  • +1

Milklab is my favourite soymilk. But it's 10c more.per L

    • Full price or on sale?

      • Full price on Amazon.

    • +3

Cannot stand Milklab. Happy soy boy is 10x better. Bought a case of milklab and cannot drink it, euch.

      • +1

agree with you here. Milk lab soy is hard to drink. even in a coffee.

        • +1

Yep, which is really bizarre since it's designed for exactly that. I do notice most baristas using their almond milk but not their soy, which was probably a big warning sign!

          • @fLaMePrO: Got a Milklab soy from a local italian place, managed to drink half, rest went down the drain.

And i HATE wasting food and coffee.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, crazy right? Is it one of those coriander type things? You either love it or you hate it?

Very strange, I don't know how you could possibly drink the stuff. If anyone is near Richmond VIC and wants 6 cartons, hit me up haha.

  • -1

Soy ain't taste right. I go for the lactose free milk. Works and taste like real milk.

    • +1

Unfortunately lactose free milk isn't dairy free though haha.

      • Yes. At one stage I was told I had intolerance to dairy but infact it was lactose.

        • Yep, dairy allergy is a separate thing from lactose intolerance. If you’re really unlucky, it’s possible to even have both.

    • +5

Just a bizarre argument to make.
You think the milk industry should be able to stop these from being called milk alternatives?
And why the quotes around "milk alternatives"? That's literally what they are.

    • +5

      Oh, good ol' semantic pettiness.

  • -5

    Not Bizarre at all..
Unless it comes from a Tit its not Milk,,
    At best it's a "juice"..
As previous how many of you would be adding it to your coffee it was labeled "Almond juice" ??.. At best that's what it is..

    • +2

While I agree that you are correct, this is a juice and not a milk. Technically.

Fom the consumption of it, it most closely resembles "milk". Not sure what you'd call vegan meat then. A salad?

Also, why do we call milk: "milk". Because technically that's wrong. Because milk is what human babies drink from their mothers. What everyone else has is "cow's milk". Technically.

      • -2

It comes from a Tit it's Milk..
        Mothers Milk is still Milk..
        Cows Milk..
        Goats Milk…
        Camel Milk..
You seeing a pattern here ??..

        And correct..
        What vegans eat isn't Meat..
They can call it whatever trumped up name they would like..

      • As stated..
Milk Industry caught asleep at the Wheel..

    • Does this bother you?

    • +6

Bring on the obscenely more efficient milk alternatives. I'm a convert. Changing what milk you drink makes a remarkable difference in an individual's carbon emissions.

  • Thanks. Was down to the last one

  • Anyone know if you get the special price if you're subscription order comes through while it's on special?

    • +1

Was sharing this deal with a friend yesterday, and he had this setup on the S&S, and he said it wasn't going to be the reduced price. He cancelled his subscription, and started it again to claim this better price.
Just one person's experience that I can't really verify 100%, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to can it and start over to be sure.

  • Soyboys rejoice!

  • soy boy is back to $25 + $6 postage. I was keen to try it

    • same :( better luck next time

  • A few cafes have changed from Bonsoy to Soy Boy, can't tell the different taste-wise. Unless it is due cost, there must be a reason, my guess if that Soy Boy is easier to froth. May try it out.

    • +1

I recently tried Soy Boy for the first time and personally think it tastes better than Bonsoy, which I've been drinking for years.

    • I think if you’re tossing up between Bonsoy and HHSB, just buy the one that’s cheaper at the time.

My personal favourite is HHSB, after being a Bonsoy drinker for a long time. I still buy Bonsoy if it’s on sale though.

    • Bonsoy curdling too much, I know it's to do with the acidity of coffee, I switched to almond to avoid the problem.

      Will try HHSB.

  • This is the best milk alternative: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/310675/vit…

    Cheaper.
    Tastes better.
Much better for the environment if you're into that.

  • Hasn't Bonsoy Soy Milk been $3.51 S&S for a long time?

    • Amazon price matches WW/Coles for the sale week generally at $3.8 or $3.9 and once at $3.35.
Their standard S&S price is $4.32 (based on RRP $4.9)
