I think that might become truth, but at a time when you have more people wanting it than able to get it, the major issue is something else. Don't have to look to hard to see what the issue is.

Who knows, maybe people who really refuse the vaccine is less than 20% of the 'eligible' population.

But back to topic. My view is now that the topic and subsequent argument on this thread is affiliated to said tech newsletter, I see the later in a different way. The occasional scuffs at the government in the newsletter becomes less jokey and more real in a political sense

        • +1

If you associate me and The Sizzle with being pro-vaccination, I'm happy for that. I am pro-vaccination, they're a wonderful technology we are blessed to have available to us for free in a country like Australia.

      • There's only one group acting like nazis, trying to force people to do something their choice is up to them.

        • +5

No one is forcing you to do anything. You're perfectly free not to participate in this deal. In the same way companies are perfectly entitled to protect thier workforce and business (from being shut down) by requiring employees etc are vaccinated.

you're entirely free to choose what you want to do

    • +4

after reading through this thread, i dont think op or anyone would be upset about losing the support of antivaxxers

    • +16

I get your point about some people not wanting to vaccinate and honestly, that's not who this deal is for - I'm not here to change minds. I'm here to encourage those who are on the fence, or want to but have forgotten/too lazy/too busy, as well as reward people who have.

If you feel left out because you decided not to be vaccinated, that's not my problem.

      • -7

I respect that and thank you for trying to get more people on board, I really do, but this thread is a bit of a mess, not directly because of you, but this topic

Oh well, as one questionable man once said "it is what it is"

    • +2

I used to be a paying sizzle subscriber. I unsubscribed because of the strong bias (e.g political, religious, moral, etc) that Anthony has, and I did not feel he shows respect to disagreeing viewpoints. I say that with full respect to Anthony, as he is certainly a nice guy. While I love tech news, and have been vaxxed, I also love things that are fair and balanced.

This is certainly a successful marketing stunt, kudos to Anthony for playing the game.

  • +4

lol thanks for starting a fire on OzBargain this fine tuesday

    • +1

Omg only Tuesday… Thought it was Wednesday

  • +1

Anything you can do for people who are already subscribed?

    • +2

Email me your address and I'll send you a couple of Sizzle stickers :)
If you're a subscriber you should know my email addy (I send you an email every day!).

    • Op stated at one of posts above. Cannot loose $3k for 3 months. Which is fair enough

  • +5

Op is doing his bit to encourage more Aussies to get vaccinated, government has not announced any incentives for vaccination, I don't think op is getting government subsidy for this initiative. True, your private information will be visible to him, but that is your decision, does not make this a bad deal.

    • +2

The only private info I get is 1. your name 2. you've been vaccinated. The rest of the screenshot can be censored.

  • +1

Btw, I almost thought you can get 3 months of sausage sizzle.

    • +1

What a utopia that would be.

24-hours limit for voting negative on comments is currently capped at 5

Well, should have selected most neg-worthy comments. Too late now.

    • +1

yes, i've never used so many negs before

  • +4

My goodness some of the comments here are good laughs. Each of them with alerts set up for Aluminium Foil for their shiny new hats no doubt

    • +2

I had no idea it would get this controversial! My main concern was people having a sook about how they can get news for free elsewhere.

      • Your content is good, feedback has always been "worth it" (mine as well), but this topic you should know is top 10 hot list… Hot as in, 'im going to burn my hands'

        Edit: nevermind, next post haha

  • +1

You normally charge for a fricking newsletter? wtf who pays for that shit.

    • +13

      Not vaccinated people!

    • +3

Same people who pay for a newspaper when there is the internet, or those that have subscribed and found it of value and want to support the author.

      • +2

The people who pay for a newspaper despite the existence of the internet are not typically the same people that would be interested in TECH news.

        • The people who pay for a newspaper despite the existence of adult classifieds within are not typically the same people that would be interested in adult classifieds.

    • +5

760 people pay me for it and I've been doing it for over 6 years. It's similar to supporting creators on Patreon or donating to a podcast or whatever.

    • +2

Quick, list all of the things you spend money on so we can criticise your life choices!

      • Disney+

        • +1

I encourage that, especially since Futurama was added to their collection.

  • I was booked in to get the AZ vaccine last week, but the doctor wouldn't give it to me and gave me a referral to get Pfizer. Booked in for September.

    • Did you cry discrimination?

      • +1

no, the victim complex is for you antivaxxers in this thread

    • +1

Thanks for making the effort! The offer of a free 3 month subscription will still be around in September waiting for you :)

  • Would be good if we don't have to wait months to get the jab :-(
If we can take ONE day to vote or do the census, why can't be aim to take one week to provide the jab to everyone?
Young and old, city and country.
Don't know why we have to book and wait months!

    • +1

I sympathise there! Even AZ supplies are running low now that they've opened it up to everyone. We need more vaccine doses!!

    • Cheers mate!

  • +4

Doing some googling and reading a bit more without being lazy can save you $5 a month. Isn't that a bargain?

    • +1

Ssshhhhh, you're revealing my trade secrets!!!

  • +8

Came for the free paper, stayed for the crazy anti-vax rants.

  • +3

"There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about"
Oscar Wilde………..Congratulations Anti-Vaxxers, you've made this OB post the most talked about today.
    So the winner is thesizzle.com.au!!

    • +2

It wasn't my intention to cause this controversy, but hey, 53 people have claimed a free subscription and will be enjoying my work for the next 3 months at least!

  • +9

This appears to be an entirely optional incentive, so I don't get why those who don't want to jab are getting all worked up about it. Don't jab then! Don't get the free trial newsletter! It's not mandatory.

In saying that I also don't get what sort of rock these people are living under. The numbers literally show that vaccinated individuals are far less likely to die or be in hospital (the current Sydney outbreak has had no deaths for people who are fully vaccinated, and very little hospitalisations (if at all? I haven't watched all the pressers). If there is no virus going around then yeah, take your chances and don't add something to your body that you may not need, but in the case of active and very contagious outbreaks, ANY vaccine is evidently better than none (the ones approved in Australia anyway).

    • +1

Couldn't have said it better myself.

      • Yes, me too! :-)

  • +1

If it were free Newsletter, no one would damn care about.
If you charge dollars and then make it free, here’s the deal. OP repeatedly mentions No Bullshit newsletter. I can’t understand who decided that’s really no bullshit 😆

I would have considered to offer these subscriptions free to those on need. Someone who’s lost job, struggling to scale things up or someone offering assistance to others to get on during these difficult times. Similar to what businesses did to all those in need and healthcare workers.
Else it’s just a thing where ‘No Bullshit’ isn’t even…. Well even.

    • +7

I give away more free subscriptions than you realise. I've even waived subscription fees on a case by case basis where a long term subscriber lost a job and had to cancel their subscription. International students that can't afford food so cancel their subscription to save $5. I know what it's like to not have enough money in your bank account to pay rent. I know what it's like when a bread winner has a severe income cut. I try my best to help where I can.

      • +2

Awesome. That’s nice. You have my vote mate.

    • The newsletter is really really good. I was subscribed for a year til money got tight

      • +3

Send me an email from your previously subscribed address mate, will fix you up with a temporary subscription.

  • I'd prefer a free big mac

    • +2

Same. (profanity) love a Big Mac.

  • Great initiative OP. thanks. I sent through a screenshot of my digital vaccination record. I’ve only received the first dose, but next one following in a few weeks. Hope this suffices!

    • +1

First dose is excellent! Thanks for sending the screenshot.

      • `^ me I though I was getting a free sausage sizzle !

        • lol, you're not the first person to think The Sizzle was sausage related

          • @decryption: Some I guess on the East Coast in harsher states missed it :)

            • @popsiee: Tell me about it. RIP the snag.

  • That's a nice business.
How many hours do you put into it?

    • +1

On a normal day about 4 hours. Depends how complex the news of the day is to explain! Most of it is spent reading. Not much admin stuff, but do need to spend more time on the marketing side of things.

      • Is this a side job for you?

        • Let me quote Thesizzle.com.au…

"Is The Sizzle your full-time job?
I spend half of my weekdays occupied with Sizzle related stuff and the other half as a freelance tech writer, mostly advertorial/sponsored content for various outlets but sometimes product reviews. If you need someone to write tech related words, please get in touch!"

  • +3

Came here for the comments knew someone will call out illegal or antivaxxers voicing for bargains can't be had hate threads

  • It's a great deal, I am a subscriber, though happy to pay full price to support it.

  • +2

Can someone who is against getting the vaccine explain to me why they are against things like this that encourage OTHER people to get the vaccine? Surely the faster everyone else gets vaccinated the faster we’re out of lockdowns and they don’t have to do anything except stop working against their best interests by spreading fear and demeaning people by calling them sheep..

    • +2

Put simply, they are largely morons

  • -8

    This is discrimination.

    • +3

      Yes, agreed!!!
All the idiots should get together and protest!

    • Discrimination against the stupid will raise the intelligence level of the median population. Win-win

      • Yes, because that was a smart comment…

    • Now you know what it was like for some of us growing up.

  • +5

This comment thread is the epitome of the quote: "It started as a virus and ended as an IQ test".

  • +4

Do people actually pay for this when there's a million free platforms which would probably have the tech news before you…?

    • 760 people pay me for it and I've been doing it for 6 years. It's niche content for a targetted audience, not mainstream stuff for everyone. Some people really like it, some think it's a waste of time :)

  • +1

Given this has become a covid forum can i ask do people believe getting a vaccine means you cant spread covid as much when you get it? From what i have read you have the same viral load vaccanated or not so allowing the vaccanated free raine will spread covid much more. Is this thought to be a conspiracy theory or is it fact?

    • +2

There's still some research to be done on that, particularly for the Delta strain.
However, the primary purpose of the vaccine is to prevent serious illness, hospitalisation and death - and in that they are exceptionally effective. Even with Delta you're talking around a 90% reduction in serious illness, and close to 100% reduction in death.

It is reasonably likely that vaccinated people can continue to spread the virus (even if at reduced levels). Which is why in the US especially it's become a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

Eventually, honestly, we will probably all get Covid once vax rates are high enough to reduce restrictions safely. The only question you need to ask is - when that happens, do I want to roll the dice with a very safe and highly effective vaccine? Or a virus that is at least a 1/10 chance of making you seriously ill or giving you long-term chronic health problems.

      • -2

That's a cool reciting of propaganda bullet points from March 2021. Unfortunately, about half of them already proven to be wrong and rest will likely to follow in coming months.

        • You meant to say it's a cool summary of the fully researched, peer reviewed opinions of thousands of actual experts who have spent their lives honing their knowledge on a topic?

Oh that's right… High school dropouts who "did their research" on Facebook are far more reliable sources of medical knowledge than medical researchers and practitioners.

It'll fun when we end the lockdowns and you guys are restricted from going to restaurants, movies and events.
Less fun when we have to pay for your healthcare as you say you wished you got the vaccine as the doctor shoves the intubation tube down your throat

      • thanks good to hear and i am not going mad :) Only the NSW gov is going mad as they are allowing construction workers from hot spots out into the rest of Sydney (as of tomorrow) if they are vacanated even thought they can still spread covid just as easlly as unvacanated so we in Sydney are all doomed !

    • +1

Everyone knows you can still spread it, that is why you still have to wear a mask, distance etc after being vaccinated.

  • +1

I think this is great! I've signed up for my 3 months and will continue with a paid subscription just because I think this kind of thing is so important - vaccinations are safe, they work and they positively impact everyone (whether you choose to believe that or not). Any business owners doing similar will definitely be added to my preferred suppliers list.

  • The Sizzle is great!

    • I reckon it's good too

  • +8

And so the world gets even more divided over a virus…..

    • +8

Was never about the virus it's always about movement passports

      • It is kind of ironic how in America the democrats want vaccination passports to be able to go to public venues, but don't want ID to vote as it's "discriminatory"😅

        • +1

The ID that's "acceptable" is usually produced by agencies that the Republicans seem to keep shutting down in strategically bad areas, or cutting funding to so it's harder to get the ID. Somehow, it's disproportionately the motor vehicle licencing agencies in poor non-white communities who keep getting shut or cut under Republican governments.

Ironically, the same communities have hesitancy toward vaccines because they were previously used as guinea pigs by government sanctioned research up until the 1990s (but certainly the 1970s).

  • +2

I'm fully vaccinated and a paying member already :D

    • +1

      daft009? more like genius009

      • Aww shucks.. thanks buddy

  • I get why these sort of things can irk people based principle and appearance of conflict with other personal characteristics protected under various anti discrimination laws. But I really like the sentiment and the objective though, for me the benefits outweigh the cons so kudos to you!

  • +3

What does your newsletter have to do with he jab?

    • +9

Well you can get it for free if you have had it. That's the link.

  • +4

Free 5G connectivity and now this! Thanks OP, I've subscribed.

    • Im in a 5g hollow, thank you Optus.

  • +6

This is the best deal ever. Disgustingly selfish imbecile bogan anti-vaxxer idiots getting all up in arms because they feel like they're missing out on something they didn't even know existed and probably wouldn't even take up even if they could!
    Thanks, OP!
