Not OLED at this price point.

    Thanks, ordered one

I own one, bought it last year November.
If anyone has any questions, fire away.

Do You Suffer Low Battery Anxiety?

      • Don't know about 8.3 but Nokia 8 siroco had crazy battery life. I could easily get two days.

      • Battery lasts the whole day for me and I use all the social media apps and a few games

      • +1

I'm unique in this case. I have gigabit wifi at my work, so I actually turn the data off during the work day. However, in saying that, I normally go 3-4 days between charging. I'm a light user though. Just the usual social media apps

        • Is the screen quality good for youtube and netflix content? Ta

    • +4

phone seems really long/large. Do you have trouble with it?

      • +2

Definitely heaps long - it's a 2 handed phone, no question about it.
Or you've gotta slide the phone up and down in your hand to be able to reach the top and bottom. Fortunately with gesture swiping in Android 11, it's not a huge issue for the status bar. But any other apps like Instagram, where the stories are along the top, you'll find yourself readjusting the position to be able to reach the top

    • +3

      Is it good or Turd?

      • +17

It's a phone, does what it needs to, and it's $348.
Does it perform the same as an Galaxy S20 or iPhone 12? No. Does it cost as much? Also no

    • Does it support / have you used wifi calling on Telstra or boost?

      • +1

I'm with Voda, WiFi calling works with them.
Can't answer for Telstra or Boost

        • Did you need to change any apn settings when you got the phone?

          • @taoz: I don't remember specifically now. I'm the type who goes through and plays with every single setting on a new device. So I can't remember if it was the default, or if I changed it.

Its under Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile Network > WiFi Calling
And you can toggle between WiFi and mobile network options

    • Jbhifi reviews said eating battery with 5g on?
      Night camera quality is meh?

      • +3

5G eating battery depends where you live in my experience.
My house gets a strong 5G signal, so the phone is not constantly "searching" for a better signal when you're on 4G.
Much the same as a 4G phone when reception drops to 3G, it eats more battery because it constantly searches for a better signal

Night camera quality is definitely subpar. I loaded on GCam within the first month, and that really solves the issue

        • So, root and sideload gcam?

          • @CyberMurning: Doesn't need to be rooted.
Just download the APK and install it.
You can also find a good XML file with appropriate settings for the 8.3 if you don't wanna play around with it yourself - just google gcam nokia 8.3 5g and you'll be able to find one

            • @maaaaatthew: wow… i thought need root.
is there gcam apk for samsung galaxy note 10+ ? i'll google it now
              thanks

              • +1

@CyberMurning: The apk is just an app installer file. GCam is the standard camera on the Pixel phones. You can easily find the apk itself. Just handy to find an accompanying XML file for all the best settings for your particular phone model

              • @CyberMurning: Watch with the 10+ check as the APK will likely be for the Snapdragon model (assuming you have an Exynos model 10+),

    • Does this come with jelly Case? Earbuds? got NFC?

      • +3

        Jelly case
        3.5mm earphones
Has NFC (Google Pay is a life saver)

        • Does it come with a pre-applied screen protector?

          • +2
            • @maaaaatthew: Then what do ''On Screen Stickers'' mean do you know

              • +1

                @sub102: No idea, sorry.
All that was in the box was:

    • If i just need a phone to send sms, take recieve call and book an uber should I get this or the G10?

      • If you're just doing the basics, I would personally just go for the cheaper option. Both will do what you want

        • $24 Telstra lite 2 4G

    • jbhifi review says system .. glitchy … lag… forced close. ….crash… is it true ?

i heard the same thing on lower end … 5s / 7s … not sure their top end 8s also suck ?

      • +1

I am a heavy app usage person, social media + odd games. I probably experienced the glitch or lag maybe 3 times since I got it on launch but I could be lucky this time, I've been buying the nokia phones since they came back as HMD and I have had the usual issues with past phones.

        • charging port still ok ?

i thought they fixed it after x.1 / x.2 …. but jbhifi review said this 8.3 faulty charging port after 3 months

          • +1

@dcep: Charging port is still good for me, they fixed that from the previous models in theory, I suffered the charging port issues on the Nokia 9 and 8.1 and I had them for about just under 2 years.

          • @dcep: I had a Nokia 8 for 3.5 years prior to this. No charging port issues on either phone. I had seen reviews from people with those issues, but I was lucky enough not to be affected.

      • I have had the phone freeze, then restart, maybe twice in the 10 months I've had it.
Other than that, it works pretty normally

      • i have 7.2 no glitches, no crashes …..

    • +1

Do you think Nokia shares are a good buy?

      • +2

        HMD or Nokia? Lol

    • +2

      Is phone fine?

    • +2

      Offers AMA, answers none…. haha

    • Is the camera as good as it sounds?

Compared to a pixel for example.

      • The camera seems to be a resounding….fine. For the price it's probably miles ahead of the other options. Dxomark has a good review.

    • Any issues with charging, or the charging port?

  • My 3310 still works should I upgrade? What are the benefits?

    • +1

      faulty charging port

    • +1

The 3310 could break the pavement if you drop it?

But the battery life is still probably stellar.

    • +3

If you've survived the last ~14 years without a smartphone; then no. 😂

  • Thanks OP

    Bought 1

  • Price beat at OW for further 5% off ?

    • You'd be able to do that assuming stock is okay.

    • Good luck finding it at OW. Every time JB has a good special, my OW is mysteriously out of stock.

  • +1

It has dual sim which is good. However I can't find info on NFC.

    • +3

      Definitely has NFC
I believe some overseas models may not have had NFC, but the Australian model does. I use it all the time.

    • I use all my cards on this via NFC google pay

    • i am seeing couple different reports about dual SIM + separate SD .. vs hybrid SIM (choose dual SIM and no SD access, or single SIM and use SD slot)
      can you confirm this?

  • Android One? Wireless charging? Dual SIM?

    • +2

      Yes, no and yes.

    • Yep, and Mercedes s600 as a free gift with this phone

      • Don't be silly, how would they even fit that into the box!

        • its a voucher

  • Tempting price but high refresh rate is a must have feature for me.

  • is it good price if I don't use 5G?

    • I think the only downside is this Nokia has LCD Display. For the same price range, you can consider OPPO X2 Lite $399.

      • ow had x2 lite on clearance back in june at $197

        • True, but stock seems to be LOW now. Mobileciti is selling it on "Catch" for $399.

      • +1

6.4" (Oppo) is much more appealing to me than 6.8" (Nokia)
I currently have a 6.1" phone screen and can barely use it with one hand… seems everything is so big now.

  • +4

Very underwhelming phone at RRP and only just okay with a 50% off attached to it.

  • +1

I'd recommend price beating Officeworks on this one, bringing it down to $330.60

  • +4

As this model was released September 2020, only has 25 months security left, but should get the Android 12 around the new year,

but most likely no more major OS upgrade after that.

    • What do you mean by 25 months security?

      • +4

Android One get's around 3 yrs/36 months security updates, but that starts from when phone was released,

not from when you buy and start using it. As this model was released in September 2020, there are 25 months

remaining to get your Android security patch updates.

  • I was so close to buy this phone a month ago but I bought S20 FE instead. Thanks God I waited and this is a James Bond's phone by the way.

    • which movie ?

      • +1

New one, No Time to Die

  • +3

Thanks OP just ordered! Can finally upgrade my trusty Nokia 8

    • +1

That Nokia 8 was a solid phone. I only just missed out on buying a second hand Nokia 8 as guy decided to keep it.

Got a HTC 10 instead and that was rock solid also, just replaced that with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 but the HTC still great for music.

      • +1

I finally replace my NTC M10 with a Samsung 10e which was on sale. Even though I have a Pixel 3 I find I still use my old HTC M10 for my second sim. Still find the sound and photo quality of the HTC unbeatable even though Android updates finished about v8

        • I know. That was a beast of a phone, really nice to use with great sound and build like a tank.

I have actually bought a few newer phones ( new bargain priced midrangers as I never buy a flagship on contract or new price,

even at end of life ), but have prefered to keep using my HTC 10 untill just recently.

Had a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 that I loved but unfortunately smashed, so now the Note 10 took it;s place and as this

has Amoled screen and B28 has become my main phone. Happy with this outcome as I now use the HTC purely for

music and Google Authenticator App for Cryto logins lol.

  • Hows the camera on this compared to something like the Samsung S20 FE?

    • +4

The S20 FE has a better camera for sure in general, especially for the causal photo takers.

      • 100% the FE has a better camera. Really need to sideload GCam to bring this camera up to par.

I feel the S20FE is a more polished product overall. It just depends on pricing.
At full price, go the S20. This is half the price now though, depends if you can deal with a less polished product for the sake of saving some coin

        • Would shoe polish do the trick?

  • Last time I purchased a Nokia phone iPhone 1 didn't even exist yet.

    • +1

Your getting a fair bit older then, like the rest of us who remembers those like me lol.

  • -1

If you don't care of local warranty which is pretty much point less in most cases $350 is too much for a SD765

    • It is an Android One phone. Granted at the original price this just doesn't stand a chance against Pixel 5 which has similar specs but better, but heavily discounted it's a decent deal.

      • worth to go for pixel 4 against this?

        • +2

Pixel 4XL yes, but definitely not Pixel 4 if battery life is a concern. Pixel 4 has very short battery life.

    • +1

If you care about AndroidOne, then this is a good phone.

  • +1

Thanks, purchased one. Had the original 8 (NB1) for a while, pros:
    - SD card support
    - Non glass back cover
    - One of the "cleanest" Android phones out there (ie no bloatware)
    - NFC
    - Headphone jack

This one has USB 2.0 which is a downside, also probably just one more year of OS update.

  • hmm how to get office works price match for a c&c during lockdown ?

    • +4

This is essential. We need phone to check exposure sites and check in

    • price match over phone and they deliver it to you
