  • Now this is a good deal.

Not going to complain. I bought my note from Handtec for $650 a month ago.

  • Wow that is a great price I been shopping for this phone for months. But I heard that Vodofone will be offering them next month on the $45 plan

    • not bad if you actually get vodaphone in your area, I heard their coverage is the least comprehensive out of Telstra, Optus, Vodaphone. Which is why I think they have best price to compensate. But hey if you get coverage where you live go for it

  • My SGS2 took exactly 28 days to deliver, I wonder if they will be faster on this?

The SGS2 was an awesome deal, and it ended up being worth the wait (to save the $$$)

    • +3

28 days is nothing. Those people who ordered the gnote from DWI before xmas are still waiting, thats 70 days and counting.

Sub $600 is still a good deal. I paid about $625 shipped 2 weeks ago (in my hand 3 days after ordering) when the Handtec price dipped for a day before it went back up.

If you haven't seen this phone in real life though you will be in for a shock, it is massive, but in a good way. After using it for a few hours my Nexus One felt like a toy phone when I saved everything off it and powered it down into semi-retirement.

        We make no loss!

  • If you want it fast I ordered mine from Handtec UK on a Friday morning at 10am, delivered to my door following Monday 10am. It wasn't this cheap though (2 months ago).

  • I was looking for something to replace my iPhone 3gs last year and considered this, until my wife pointed out that it may be just a little too big for my (preferred) belt clip. Ended up with an Atrix 4g instead, which was a lot cheaper but is a very good phone.

How can they justify $50 shipping?

  • a friend of mine got this 3-4 weeks after ordering it on Shoppingsquare

I got mine from Expansys 4 days after ordering.

I'd pay $70 or so more and get it early!

  • I think telstra is releasing the LTE 4G version next week.

    • No not the GNote, its the LTE S2 that is 4G. The telstra GNotes say nextG on the back.

      • Do you have a source for this or any other details on the Telstra version? I've been waiting for it but I'd like to know if its the physical or capacitive button configuration, what processor is in it, and obviously about LTE support.

        Thanks

          Here's specifications for SGN: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note-4135.php

To sum up hardware wise this is a very powerful phone, amongst the most powerful available at present (of course this will change fast ;) ). This phone laughs at anything you throw at it gamewise and flies along nicely. Of particular note is the Mali GPU which does 4x AA with no performance penalty and allows seamless playback of 1080p AVC taken untouched from Bluray provided your microSDHC is fast enough (obviously most people aren't going to dump an untouched Bluray onto their phones but I'm illustrating that it can play pretty much anything you throw at it without encoding to a lower res or bitrate). It plays 720p content without resizing thanks to 1280x800 screen.

It has 3 buttons beside on/off and volume rocker: home is physical whilst menu and back on either side are capacitative.

After owning it for about 3 months I will make the following comments regarding it:

For such a high end phone Samsung did a bad job on setting values for the screen levels - black levels are not set correctly compared to other AMOLED phones of theirs. For most usage this is not really an issue however you will notice it in images and video with dark areas in the form of awful looking pixellation. Most gushing reviews completely failed to mention this bad mistake by Samsung. There is a fix being developed at xda-developers for this which may or may not end up being finished and Samsung may fix it officially but it's poor form IMO and not have happened.

It also has a somewhat "cheap" look and feel to it if you look anywhere but the front (although the middle home button is also getting a little wobbly). This can of course be largely hidden by a case. It definitely doesn't look as nice as say Galaxy Nexus or some HTC's. Presumably this was to cut costs.

Battery life is simply superb: Engadget claimed they played 9 hours of video continously (ipad anyone?). Usually I watch an hour or so of video at the gym with 100% screen brightness and leave data on all the time (dont bother turning it off ever) and with moderate amounts of voice calls, text and browse using Optus (shitty network = large drain) and I rarely go below 50% in a day. This is without using any battery saving apps or strategies (killing apps and so on) either.

Overall I'm very happy with this phone though. It's the first stylus device where using the stylus actually seems useful - I didn't buy it for S Memo (think of this like One Note but you can scribble easily using the stylus) but I use this app more and more for a lot of things like shopping lists and its easier to jot down notes rather than type.

Also as far as I'm aware it comes in black, white and a blue - the blue is very dark though. I got black but I would get white provided there wasnt to much of a premium for it.

No idea about Telstra LTE version other than SGN does come in an LTE variant.

    • Samsung filmed the Galaxy Note commercial in The Rocks area a while ago. The guy in the commercial was holding one with LTE written on the back. So it wouldn't surprise me if Telstra is releasing a LTE version.

From what I've read though LTE is a battery killer which is a shame. If I power use my Gnote I run out of battery at the end of a day (if not earlier) - so I imagine LTE would kill it by 3pm or worse.

As an FYI I bought my Galaxy Note at the start of December 2011 for $642 delivered off eBay.

  • This deal is too good for this jew, thanx for the post I am buying one now…..hey why is it that under money back co it was 2% back on shoppingsquare but under the new statehere its only 1.5%? anyone know whats going on?

    • I think, its for new member in starthere. if you were a member in moneyback, then you automatically get founder level in starthere (they have cash backs based on levels) and get max cash back.

    Do they supply GST invoice

    • +29

No. You should know, you're the ATO.

      • +1

        LMFAO

        • -3

          Laugh My Fxxx Axx Off.

    • If you looked down to the bottom~

      Is the Tax invoice provided?

Yes, Tax invoice is provided for warranty purpose

      • -1

Tax invoice but not GST inclusive?

        • +1

why so keen on paying gst? are u a taxman?

        • If you are buying it as a GST-registered business you can claim that 10% back. Or if you are travelling overseas and want to claim via tourist refund scheme.

        • +1

          We have a WINNER.

        • As Scotty said, this is a real issue for those buying the phone for a GST registered entity and people trvelling who want to claim via the TRS.

If you buy a phone for say $594 and that was really $540 + $54 GST, that is not the same as buying it for $594 with no GST element included.

On the Shopping Square website there seems to be a discrepancy between:

          and

There is something odd there, and it is important for some as Scotty said.

  • ..

  • Kogan has it for $599, whose a better dealer, shipping times?

    • +3

add $50 for Kogan to ship it to you…..how they justify it I dont know, Its like Sodomy!

      • well personally ive decided to go with expansys for same week delivery!

      • +1

No, sodomy's a pain in the a**, Kogan's just overcharging on shipping.

Okay, maybe it is like sodomy.

    • +2

I'd honestly trust [?] Kogan more than ShoppingSquare. You can grab the Note for $599 + shipping, which in my case is $19, not $50 as previously posted.

    • +1

i got mine delivered in 3 days

  • Is this blue in colour? seems like note only comes in white and blue - although seems only a handful of them sell white one. Haven't seen a note myself and therefore reluctant to buy a blue one.

    • -4

its dark blue hence they call it blue.
good price - but heard gnote2 coming out very soon tho?

    • +1

I have the blue one. Its face is black. The back panel is black with a slight bluish tint.

      • +1

Do you feel silly when your on a call with a mini tablet to your ear?

        • -1

not in the slightest.. it's not that big.. although i am solid and 6ft.. btw the blue is basically black

        • How big is it compared to an iPhone?

        • Certainly makes mine look small

        • +1

          Is that what he said?

        • …anyway.

Anything that much bigger than my wallet seems too much of a hassle.

        • it looks big when you compare it to other phones, but once you start to use it, you wont really notice and because its so thin it'll fit into your pocket without any problems. Having had mine for almost a month now, the one thing i can guarantee is that you definitely wont be able to go back to the "normal" sized phones anymore, especially since it has a HD AMOLED screen which blows everything else out of the water, but thats just my opinion.

  • Doesnt list white so I am assuming its the blue.

    • they sell the white one for 50$ more on ebay, even tho its retailed the same price in other countries~

  • -2

Where do you store this in the car so you can still view the screen? In the glovebox?

  • +4

    One problem, it's Shopping Square.

Samsung Galaxy Note — reminded me yesterday's Dilbert cartoon…

    http://www.dilbert.com/2012-02-23/

    • Saw that one too, thought "That's wrong, there is no unfilled niche". In fact, Samsung has every niche covered by itself with phones and tablets for just about every size except 6".

  • Gonna give them a chance

  • sheesh

ordered mine from them a couple of weeks ago this is like $60 cheaper.

it's rrived at the fed ex mascot so fingers crossed i get it monday

my orig was stolen from me in thailand.

some friends there were all tempted to get one. i miss not using my laptop at home that much. the note lets u do so much so easily compred to a phone. yeah u look weird talking on it - i handsfree when i can - but that screen realestate is just so great to use.

  • +1

I didn't know about this phone till I saw this deal. I was looking for a tablet and a phone to upgrade to and now I can do both with one device!

  • yeah, i think this will be my next phone.. soooon…!!!

If any current owners or new buyers want a spare battery, I have one that I'm flogging on ebay starting $0.99 (from DX, shipped wrong item):

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190645…

  • +1

    Ordered one, finger crossed

    • did you order using paypal? was there still $49 postage? Thanks.

      • i just paid by paypal, not postage

        • thanks

  • is this HK import and does it come with australian charger/connector?

  • when I went through paypal, still charges $50 p&H. how does it work to remove the $50? thanks

  • Just got it today…. crossing fingers…..

  • Just ordered one. Thanks OP. Hope this is no drama!

  • Hmmm not working for me :(

I go all the way through, use the paypal yellow button, put my details in and it comes up with the $50 delivery charge!

Am I missing something or has the deal ended?

    • They keep adding and removing the free shipping deal. Basically just check it every day if you want it. Free shipping deal is back on today. It seems they remove the deal every other day before bringing it back on.

  • Still comes up with the $50 delivery charge for me as well :( . Does anyone know if this offer is still on, would like to buy this on this price.

  • it seems it keeps on renew the deal, i just checked and it show it will expire at 12:00pm
Wonder what's the time of arrival?.?
Will shoping sequare send you an email when it depatched?
I will give it a credit if i get it before next friday (theoretically should be before next Wednesday) as everyone say shopping square is suck!

  • So normal delivery through shoppingsquare is about 20 days?
If that's the case, I'd rather try my luck with stores like eglobal who use dhl/fedex courier service and it's only 10-20 bucks more than this.

  • Shopping Square said: 'you will receive a notification e-mail along with tracking details when your order will be dispatched.". My status still paid, don't think it can make it tomorrow>.<

  • i ordered my Galaxy note from shopping square last Saturday night. Finally, i just received an e-mail saying that my GN is dispatched and got a tracking number(via Fedex Intl Economy). The ETA is next Wednesday. So the handling and delivery process takes roughly 8 works days which i think is very good as i always believed "you got what you paid for!"

    • Me too, I ordered last Monday and got an email confirmation stating it was shipped from HK yesterday via Fedex. ETA is this Friday. Not too bad in term of delivery time. Fingers crossed at the mean time. Bear in mind, this free delivery deal included Fdex delivery and insurance covered.

"What happen if my order get lost in transit?
. For your peace of mind, all the items are shipped with Insurance covered, replacement will be sent to you once the parcel is confirmed missing in transit."

  • Got it today! Exactly 8 working days!
very happy with it, although there are cheaper deals come up recently.
It is actually from Samsung India, not Hong Kong, which doesn't really make any different as you warranty form ss only.
It shipped from hong kong and sat in china for two days and then went to thailand before it arrived australia this morning.

  • yes! But the FREE stylish Flip Cover (worth Rs. 1,799(=?aud$)) is missing >.<

  • When I placed my order, I didn't notice there was a free stylist flip cover stated. How do you know there is one?

    • No, just on the box there is a sticker said " Ask for your FREE stylish Flip Cover with your Galaxy Note (Worth Rs. 1,799)"
