Serious question, would this be any better than using a pan?

    • Wondering the same!

      • +2

        Harder to clean.

        • that makes it worse, not better

    • +2

I think it is for folks who are challenged in setting heat for pan. Else pan is better hands down

      • I think this is for people who are challenged full stop. My wife makes crepes every few days. I'm so sick of them that I'll only eat one every week or two. Kids love them. Croatian household. My mum had the perfect system. She had two pans. Pour into one, once one side is cooked, turn/throw into the second one. Pour mixture into the first one and repeat.

    • The low side helps you get under the crepe, though my ideal crepe pan would have no lip on the side.

    • Lol. Totally. There is no way you need this thing unless you don't have a hob.

I thought this was vacuum robot…

    • LOL

    • Wireless charger here

  • Is this crap(E)? Or can I just use my frypan?

i had one from aldi that was heaps better than this one (lumina), level 1-2 made perfect and i mean perfect pancakes. i let my mother take it and replaced it with this thinking itd be better and it wasnt.. at all, uneven heating and too hot at even level 1.

Who's up for the challenge of flipping those creeps in the air with this big boy?

  • +2

Have one of these that is 10+ years old. Have used for pancakes a couple of times per month and still going strong. Creeps are a bit of a trick, not as easy as a pan as you need to use a tools to spread out the batter.

  • The included batter tool assists in spreading batter thinly and evenly over the cooking plate to achieve an authentic result.

Yeah I bought one of these from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and tried it out on the weekend. It quickly ended up chucked into the sink and I instead reverted back to picking up the pan and tilting it around to spread the batter. It was tearing up the batter and dragging it around, and I was trying to hover it. Maybe I need a lesson by a Frenchman.

This is really good price, I was waiting for it on Amazon but on Amazon it go lowest approx $75. I can't see it anywhere else at this price, so good bargain.

      • +5

Some would say that's a bit creppy

Would be batter if it had more than one use

        • You're going to get one of these for Father's day "Dad".

You could store this with your other once a year items.

You never know, jv and his wife could be an old couple. She is post-menopausal and not having to worry about getting pregnant.

God I hate it when I have to agree with you jv…

I hate it when I agree with me too…

          • @jv: Is that why you are always so angry ?

        • +1

God I hate it when I have to agree with you jv

          Feel dirty huh?

    • +2

Anyone care for a crepe while they wait?

    • +4

Why use this over a regular non stick pan?

      • +3

It comes closer to how crepes are made- but it being shallow and temp control (which you may/may not acheive on your cooktop) are probably the main things. If you were making pancakes/crepes once a week I would recommend it if you have storage space.

"To make authentic pancakes, you need the right equipment. The bilig (or pilig) is the circular, cast iron baking pan on which pancakes are made, also called a crêpe maker, tuile or galettière. It is used with a small wooden T-shaped rake, the rozell, to spread the batter; and a spatula, the spanell, to flip the pancake. It sounds easy, but to make a smooth, evenly-cooked pancake, it takes practise."

        • Thanks mate. My son is obsessed with crepes.

          • +3

@notfrodo: You could get the same results in a pan- with a modified technique. I think it's like most devices, if you think you'll get use out of it then it would be useful. If you just have them occasionally then just stick to a pan.

          • +1

@notfrodo: Hi hope you've taught your son about stranger danger, wouldn't want to get involved with crepes.

    • +6

I think I'd rather spend the money on a crepe pan which also works great for pancakes and eggs too, not to mention has no electronics that could potentially fail.

    • +2

I had it for 7 years and still in good condition. Had crepe once a week. One of my most useful equipment I ever had, nice warm crepe every time on your dinning table. I bought it for $39.

    • +2

We used to have one of these for some reason. Also worked well with cooking frozen roti!

I actually have no idea where it went now

      • +1

I will be using it for roti too, not for crepe making

        • I used to make roti on it but the nonstick surface got ruined from continuous use pretty quickly. Decided not to get it again. Good quality nonstick pans are so much better

I'm pretty sure Four Frogs is still open for takeaway and/or delivery.
Likewise for those in Melbourne - Breizoz in Fitzroy…

Save the mess in the kitchen! aaaaahhhhhh….

    • I find a convex plate much easier for making crepes, with no spreading required, e.g.
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/maysarah-600w-electric-non-stic…

    • If this is what you're looking for this is probably a good deal however you can make crepes perfectly using a thin pan only and an altered recipe without taking up all the space.

If you're newer to the crepe scene dont forget to aler the recipes for both savoury and sweet crepes! Bon appetit!

    • Do people pronounce crepes likes creeps because I have always said it like crapes?

A lot of these puns aren't really panning out for me…

      • I just know Manu Feildel any time he needs to be more French for TV has a thing for craps and arse cream…I'll pass thanks.

      • "creps" like ze french

    • I've been keeping at eye out on this for a while, it used to be much cheaper on amazon (according to camelcamelcamel) but price has just been steadily increasing from 2 years ago. I wonder if thats just the new marketing or COVID related, or even if its a new product?
