Yeah- I'm pretty sure this is the lowest- probably gonna wait out until the end of the year for prices to drop to $500-600 (hopefully)

    • As much as I would love that. Unlikely. Bitcoin is up again, shipping costs are sky rocketing, our exchange rate is tanking (possibly going to negative interests rates which further drops the exchange rate). If anything everything will start to cost more again.

      • +1

Looks like I'll be sticking with my old GTX 670 2Gb for a while longer…

        • I'm with 760gtx now… AC Black Flag, Yakuza 0 and Nino Kuni a perfectly fine with this card… spintires and mudrunner in a queue too, with all 4 DLC's for Fallout 4.. so..

      • Bitcoin is actually on a downtrend, so the possiblity of a drop is slim but there

    • +1

Crypto prices are going back up… There should be more supply hopefully with less mining in China and proof of stake for ethereum.

  • Is this a good card for Plex Transcoding?

    • +4

Probably overkill. Depends how many streams you need

    • +1

If your just after movie transcoding look into intel quick sync.

    • +1

I've got a terramaster NAS and that's streaming fine. Not sure how much transcoding it's actually doing but a 3060 is pretty overkill

    • Definitely overkill, you can even do decent transcoding with Intel igpus… And amd cards/apus if you use Windows (amd transcoding with Linux I think is still broken but havent checked).

Good price… but the HODL crowd will try to convince u otherwise.

    Keep on waiting bois….

    https://au.pcmag.com/graphics-cards/88893/nvidia-gpu-supplie…

I would imagine same thing for AMD

    • +1

Don't you get sick of trolling every GFX post on OzB man?!

      • -2

Well… when will u even post a deal bro?

        2012 gosh…

        • +1

Hah, can you post a bargain for ice that I can put on this massive burn from the almighty edgelord?!

          Seriously, you're just a troll.

  • I'd get in soon before price jack..

  • Is there any 3080 ti for under $2000?

    • As for pricing, Nvidia confirmed with Kotaku Australia that the RTX 3080 Ti's MSRP would be $1,920 in Australia

Founder edition pricing… so i don't think AIB will be under $2000 anytime soon.

    • +1

      Im chasing 3080 under $1800

Thank we both might be wishful for another month or two

      • -1

i managed to get 4x 3080 lhr waterforce gigabyte for each $1800+15 delivery just yesterday.

So yeah it is doable for sure. There are shops in NSW selling via facebook marketplace PNY ones under $1800 as well.

        • +3

How and why does one need 4 LHR 3080s?

          • @cre8t1v3yoozername: 4 GPUs is a common setup for deep learning systems, which hopefully should not be impacted by LHR. 3080 is probably not the best card for deep learning since it has only 10GB of VRAM, but this would depend on the task of course.

            • +3

@DmytroP: The types who do ML and deep learning aren't that much affected by prices especially if it's a hundred dollars. It's the el cheapo ozbozos and miners(useless "xxxxbags") who will push their grandma off the cliff for a few pesos

              • @Labourking: I'm doing ML/DL on the hobby level (kaggle challenges etc), so for me the GPU purchase would be almost as price-sensitive as for gamers.

                • @DmytroP: But would you need 4 rtx 3080's and even more rtx 3060s? I mean if it's a hobby, then you only buy once or twice a year right? I know professions who use only a midrange card at home. Please don't be that guy who brags that they have the best specs and can't even do one line of code

                  • @Labourking: It often takes days/weeks to train a model, so extra computing power does help to have faster experiments feedback. 3-4x 3090 would be a good DL setup, professional cards are much more expensive and not always significantly faster.

But when you win the challenge, it's nice to think it's due to better ideas/approaches, not because you have more GPUs (quite a few are using NVidia DGX boxes there, so 4 consumer GPUs setup does not look as impressive).

                    • -1

@DmytroP: Cool, your definition of hobbyist is different to mine. Anymore non bs things you wanna add?

          • @cre8t1v3yoozername: Obviously to buy low and sell high in the upcoming weeks.

          • -1

@cre8t1v3yoozername: i like to mine… for salt. its a salt mine out there

    • Not even close.

  • +1

With crypto back on the rise and partial unlocking of LHR cards, IMO I feel prices will go back up.

    • Sadly

  • +4

Price is not bad but 6600 xt at $699 is better than 3060, and 3060ti at $859 from recent deals also have better value.

    • The lines for the 859 are really long.

My order from scorptec was like 99 in the queue.

They msged me yesterday to tell me they can't fulfill my order and asked if I wanted a zotac or asus 3060 Ti non mini for no extra cost or $20 voucher if cancelled.

Obviously I took the non-mini but I'm like wtf… Ur website is selling mini again for $1199?

      • Showing in stock too. How can queue be 100+ long if the card is in stock?

        • that is exactly why i went wtf…

but its all good if they want to swap a mini for a non-mini for no extra cost.

When i asked them it was a pre-order with ETA 18/08 hence the queue question.

  • This LHR V2?

Considering that RX 6600XT is going for sub $650 at times. $750+ for a card with worse performance isn't a bargain in my opinion.

    • +1

Only if you prefer DLSS and want RT … otherwise i agree.

    • All the $699 RX 6600XT are gone.

  • What is best.. 3060TI or 6700RX?

    • +1

check reviews. 6700rx outperforms the 3060ti. Especially considering the state of RTX's.

    • +1

The 6700xt is better at everything except RT, and obviously no dlss which can be a dealbreaker.

With an overlock you can get 3070 performance as well. My XFX 6700xt Merc hits boost clocks of 2850mhz - getting me a 3d mark score of 13882, a little higher than the 13722 that the 3070 gets.

Obviously Nvidia cards have other advantages but it depends if you need specific brand features.

  • +1

    Another ball tugging price

  • Am I the only one who still prefers the red track ball think pads have? I still won't get one because I would rather a gaming lappy BTW…

  • +2

This card is $320 US MSRP - RRP

it should be $500AU that includes GST :) so this is a $264 Crypto tax

  • +1

    800$ for an entry-level GPU nowadays…sigh

    • +1

It's unfortunate, on a positive note, the card is comparable to 1080ti, so the speed increase between generations is quite substantial with an entry-level matched the top-end card in just two generations.

      • +2

Well the 6600xt is faster then this card uses less power and its also cheaper at $679 Delivered.
I got one for $639 delivered.

Unless someone needs some of the nvidia media features then no reason not to go AMD

Would be best to get a 3080ti if wanting good RT
