ouch for those who drove around hunting for a woolies with stock

    • +3

      my local has heaps

      • +7

        my local only left $20s…

    • Isn’t there more woolies than bigw???

  • It's so difficult to find a bigw store within my 5km these days. Many have permanently closed…

  • Remind me what these points are worth in real dollars?

    • +3

      Have updated the OP.

      2000 Points = $10 off next shop.

      • Winner. Have some virtual cake :)

  • +4

This may be better than the Woolworths deal, as you could potentially stack this with the 2% cashback from Zip's 'Tap & Zip' promotion.

    • -1

Or use 5% off Big W egift cards bought from say Suncorp’s app.

      • +5

It's not possible to use Wish/BigW GC to buy other GC, since almost 2 years ago

        • Oh yeah that’s right. My bad.

    • Can you tap and go $200 purchase?

      • I believe you can tap and pay up to your available limit on Zip. Looking back at my past transactions in the Zip app, I had tapped and received the cashback on a transaction that was more than $800 back in June.

    • If I am approved for $1000 on Zip, can I purchase $1000 worth of gift cards, pay off my Zip Balance using my normal CC, then re-purchase another set of $1000 gift cards, and repeat?

      • +1

        Yes

        • Cheers! Time to stock up

      • +1

Yes, but I believe transactions appear as 'pending' first. Pending transactions reduce your available Zip balance, but you can't pay them off until they clear, which can take a couple of days.

      • Are u willing to pay the $2.50 fee for every purchase u make on Zip Pay, when paying back⁉️

    • Best to make use of the 2% cashback from Zip before the promo expires at the end of the month

  • +4

My local store only does the C&C for now,no shopping instore allowed

    • Yeh. Just found out that the Big W's that are 'click & collect' - with the giftcards, they are only digital ones. So if u can find a Big W store that allows 'in-store shopping', you're good to go on the offer. There are only a few Big W stores in each of VIC & NSW that allow such, and u will find that they're not in the designated LGA's where Covid has hit. I suppose that I'm lucky that I can get some - if I want, as I have relatives (well, the missus has) who live in those areas, and these Apple cards are still available in a couple of those areas. But, I don't need any new Apple products. My 11 Pro Max and 2019 models of such ipads and Macs do me good. I won't be looking to update until the 14.

  • +2

Sadly, there isn’t any bigw within 5km:((

  • +2

with Woolies you still have a reasonable excuse for essential shopping, with BigW, bit hard

  • also, next would be Coles LOL

  • Is the Woolies one over?

    • Today (Tuesday) is the final day

  • +1

Because there are so few BIG W stores around, I don't imagine there would be a huge stock like Woolies.
Also, are they still open in VIC and NSW?

  • For those of us who signed up to pay for Netflix with iTunes credit, how do we recently these in a way that they can be used for iTunes? My app store account account shows $50 of credit, but my Netflix is charging to card as backup option (billing settings still show charge to some as billng method). My understanding was that all Apple credit is the same system now?

    • +2

Cancel your card and it should work ok.

  • +2

This is a good deal for anyone who is able to shop in-store at BIG W.

However, this deal is unobtainable for anyone in the ACT, as all five BIG W stores are closed whilst the ACT is under lockdown (which is slated to end after the end of this deal), and this deal is only available in-store.

  • +1

Plenty in woolies atm and if u r just adding to your balance the denominations don’t really matter. $200 cards etc r only important if buying at an apple store

  • +3

PSA: Stores may restrict you on how much you can buy.
If you want to buy a lot, go in multiple trips or get other people to buy them for you.

I went to my Woolies today and they only let me walk out with $500 of gift cards.

Had to explain several times that I was not getting scammed, needed to show ID, also had to wait 15 min for them to ring up IMC.

    • Woolies doesn't have a consistent and clear policy around this. It depends on the store and staff that you have to deal with.

One Woolworths Metro store would not sell me more than $500 on one day. Went in the next day and a different staff only sold me $400 max.

Went to another store and was able to get 4x$500 via self checkout and the lady manning the terminals was probably a store manager and approved it without questions or asking endless questions about not being scammed.

  • Does these work with Netflix?

    • not anymore

      • +3

It does work when you have already signed up for Netflix a while ago before they stop letting people do that.

My Netflix subscription is still paid for by my Apple balance as I signed up via Apple a while back.

        • yeah I know am on it, should of said not for new subs.

  • With the variable load can you load $20 and still get the points? Good for gifts

  • +2

Wonder if we will see 15% off deals anymore

  • -8

Apple scans everything on your icloud. Crazy for a company who prides themselves on privacy. Avoid

  • +1

Sent hubby off to Woolworths for a few $200 cards yesterday & a loaf if bread! He went to big W, surprised he got any points, didn’t think they apply to gift cards normally. Wonder if he can return them ? Forgot the bread too 🤣

    • +1

What a deadbeat.. no points for you.

    • +2

      not possible to return cards

    • Hand his ozb membership card in

  • +3

lockdown in VIC atm, bigW only offers online purchase, click and collect or delivery, I guess this won't work.

    • +1

Same NSW too. Would like to know too how we can buy this

      • Only walk-in 'in-store shopping' stores only, unfortunately. Otherwise, they're digital cards, and they don't work on this offer. I was told that 2day. So bad luck, folks.

  • Anyone know what the variable load limit is? Is it $200?

    • $20-$500.

You take them to the counter and tell the checkout staff how much you want to load onto it.

If you intend of getting enough for upcoming Apple product releases in September, get as many of these and load $500 onto them.

      • Sorry if this is a thick question, but wanting to ensure I don't cock this up …

So - if I bought gift cards like this, let's say 4x $500 = $2000, I could then use those to buy Apple hardware online from Apple?

  • Can you use these gift cards in Apple Education Store?

    • +2

Yes. Add gift cards to your Apple ID balance and it will appear as a payment option upon checkout.

      • +1

This is amazing… wonder how many you can add? Is there a cap?
Ie - can you buy 10x $200 (and nab 60,000 WW rewards point), then add that to your balance to pick up a Macbook Pro?

        • Maximum amount you can have on your Apple ID balance is $4999 (edited to show correct value).

From the woolies thread from last week:

Using more than one payment method
You can also combine payment methods to pay for your purchase. Choose from the following combinations of credit cards and Apple Gift Cards:

Credit card(s) - up to two
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight + one credit card
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight + Apple Account Balance
Apple Gift Card(s) - up to eight + Apple Account Balance + one credit card
Apple Account Balance + one credit card

Apple Gift Cards and Apple Account Balance cannot be used with Apple Pay or split credit card payments. Please note that you can use the value from all types and generations of Apple Gift Cards.

          https://www.apple.com/au/shop/help/payments#giftcard

        • +1

The maximum balance you can have associated with your Apple Account is $4999 (not $5000).

There is no limit to the number of gift cards you can add to your Apple Account Balance.

  • I couldn’t find the New Apple Gift Card with variable load. I could only find the old Apple & iTunes Gift Card with variable load but I assume those ones are excluded from the promo.

    Anyone knows more?

    • You are probably right, but there is no harm in trying.

Did you test it by scanning an App Store & iTunes gift card and Everyday Rewards card at the checkout, and then going to the payment screen? The POS system should state towards the top right-hand corner the number of points you will be awarded for the transaction.

(And no, you don’t have to buy the gift card at this stage, especially if the number of points awarded is 0. You can always explain the situation and the checkout assistants can cancel the transaction.)

    • +2

Based on the woollies deal, the old cards are excluded. My local has only got the old cards and I tried on the POS to confirm no bonus points.

  • +1

Are Big W stores open in VIC at the moment for us to go in store to purchase?

EDIT: Nvm, just checked the covid-19 update on Big W's website… darn.. People in Melbourne can't get in store.

  • I'm based in Sydney and all Kmart/Target stores don't allow ppl to get in.
Probably same with BIGW… can anyone confirm?
or Can this deal be obtained online+click&collect for Sydneysiders?

    • No click and collect for these cards from this company for all of Australia for gift cards .
Unless BigW wants to make a change .

    • I’m not in Sydney, so I have no personal experience of whether you can enter a store to purchase gift cards.

Can this deal be obtained online+click&collect for Sydneysiders?

This deal is in-store only (as stated in the catalogue). BIG W does not sell any gift cards on their website, so C&C is not possible. (Fun fact, if you search for “gift cards” on the BIG W website, it will redirect you to the Woolworths Group gift card website.)

  • +3

So bottom line - anyone in full lockdown (Sydney/Melbourne at the very least) can't take this offer up since all of their stores are closed. What a crappy time to run a promo.

      • +2

I can't seem to find where I mentioned that Australia revolves around NSW/VIC, but since you bring it up, over 50% of the the Australian economy is propped up by NSW and VIC, so… your point?

        • -8

My point is because of Gladbags, NSW can't get the points.

  • -4

Thanks OP, time to stock up and call that lovely Indian person back so I can pay off my ATO debts.

  • So this is like getting a 15% discount on Apple products like iPhones, Apple Watches, etc.?

    • +4

That all depends on how you do your maths lol

Make sure you make a cuppa before reading this thread. It's a long one.

    • +1

3 ways to look at it
1 15% off if you shop at woolies for groceries anyway and pay cash/cc
2 if u normally buy discounted we digital gift cards at 3% off then the bonus cash you get from points is essentially worth only 97c in the dollar roughly. So a bit less than 15%
3 if u add the fact u have to spend the bonus points at woolies then add the bonus amount to gift card but factor in u r getting 15% off the card only so roughly 13% off overall.
I guess u could combine the theory behind 2 and three together too..

  • Do you guys convert to qantas points or $ off next shop?

    • +1

Qantas. And I redeemed for more iTunes gift cards to add to my apple balance. They’re currently on sale in the qantas store.

I also previously redeemed an iPad Pro 2021 and breville smart air purifier/heater/cooler prior to the gift card bonus points (both products were also 20% off at the time as well).

        They're 20,090 pts for $100 - doesn't look like it's on sale?

Surely it's better to redeem a reward flight instead for better value?

Although I get the sense that most people here are actually opting for $ off next shop, which only makes sense if you normally shop at Woolies already.

        • I got the $50 ones x 6 @ 9,060 PTS each…

And redeem an award flight to where though? VIC is locked down and I'm pretty sure most of the states are too. I wouldn't anticipate that I'd be flying anywhere anytime soon. Especially in my case with a newborn.

  • -1

It's heaps easier to hide these card in big w.

    • That's if you're lucky enough to be able to get into a store ;-)

      • I'd say more than half the population of Australia are in the unlucky category there.

  • +1

132 Plus votes from SA, WA, TAS, QLD … sorry VIC and NSW. Not only are we locked down … we also miss the deals now.

  • -1

Great. I can finally earn points for paying my IRS tax bill.

    • +3

This comment is wrong a few levels:

      1. The tax joke is so old it’s well past being at all amusing.
      2. We don’t have an IRS in Australia - it’s the ATO
  • Joke: Op should state that this excludes NSW :)

    • Mate, don't forget VIC as well.

  • +2

Just grabbed $700. Plenty in Brisbane CBD. Points loaded immediately with $500 + $200. Cheers OP!

  • +1

Just got $1500 in 3 x $500 cards. Paid with Zip and got an extra $30 back. Without wanting to start a debate, in my mind I paid $1250 for a $1500 apple product so actually saved 16.6%

  • +1

Big w at gardenctiy plenty of stock

Ppl seems to have bought enough during the Wollies deal already

    • It’s probably also because this promotion is capped to ten gift cards per member, so there is no incentive to spend $36,000 and drain a store’s stock…

  • Anyone tried afterpay to buy them?
It says that topup cards cant be bought - but Giftcards can be.

  • +1

Managed to get my little brother in Brisbane to grab me some whilst we are still locked down in Melbourne. All sorted for September.

  • My local big w had plenty on the shelf. No shortages of gift cards this time.

    • Probably because they allocated most (if not all) the initial Apple GC stock to the states that aren’t in lockdown and aren’t able to participate in the promo. Unlike Woolies, they were able to open in locked down states being a grocery store.

  • Big w is open for things like towels and registers are open

    Worth a try?

  • This could be a game changer
Would be interesting to see when the new iPhone comes out and see if The outright price for the phones are sold at 15% cheaper than the Apple price at third-party stores like eBay, three brothers mobile, etc

  • +6

    This worked for me.

    Some notes -

    • I was looking to buy a new MacBook Air for my wife for our anniversary in September anyway
    • I live in NSW so was reluctant to go to a Big W store if I couldn't get the giftcards
    • I contacted Big W on Facebook/Facebook Messenger to ask if I could get the giftcards in store in NSW. They took a day to reply, only to ask me what the promotion was I referred to, so I pointed them to their own Big W catalogue (the link in this deal). Another 24 hours later they replied to say no, I couldn't buy this in-store in NSW as they are only allowing essential shopping.
    • Meanwhile, as they were taking a while to reply, I phoned a local Big W store who said yes, I could buy giftcards and they are "just inside the door" and only certain departments were closed as part of the essential shopping.
    • I went to my local Big W; at the counter where they were asking for people's order numbers I said I was hoping to buy some gift cards. They said yes, and ushered me into the store (via QR code, etc.)
    • When I went to check out with 4x$500 gift cards two ladies served me. Well, one did but wasn't sure how to activate them. She got another lady to help.
    • The lady did talk to me about scams, which was good of her. I assured her I was buying a laptop from Apple, and that I was using gift cards because of the promotion.
    • Neither lady knew of the promotion; again, I showed them in their own catalogue. They suggested I may need to use the Woolworths Rewards app to 'boost' to get the points, but I couldn't see this deal in that app, and nor did the catalogue suggest we had to do anything other than buy them.
    • Sure enough, the receipt said "congratulations" and that I had 60,000 points worth $300 off my next shop
    • The two ladies were amazed and said they would talk to their husbands about buying some Apple gift cards
    • I now had 4x $500 gift cards, plus 60,000 points - yay
    • My credit card company paused my credit card, but after they sent me a text message and I called them and confirmed I made the purchase that was cleared and all was ok.
    • I bought the laptop using the gift cards from Apple. All went fine there. However, I spent $1,969 so had $31 remaining. I thought the cards would be charged immediately so I went to iTunes to add the last gift card, thinking it would add $31 to my iTunes credit. Nope, it added $500.
    • I phoned Apple and the guy said he could see what I'd done and he'd sort it. He said he would unredeem the gift card I applied to the iTunes Store, and to give it 24 hours. He said wait until the laptop shipped before redeeming the remaining balance of the gift card.
    • Two days later Apple contacted me again asking me to verify the order and that I had the gift cards. I said yes. They said they had to unredeem a card so it would apply to the laptop order. I said oh, I had already spoken to someone who said he was doing that - did it not work? She said he tried to unredeem all four gift cards and "one got stuck" in their process. Anyhow, she said she fixed it and it was now all good. She again said wait until the laptop shipped before trying to redeem the final $31 in Apple credit.

So, it was an adventure, and Big W didn't help with conflicting advice and seemingly nobody knowing their own promotion - but it worked; I got an Apple MacBook Air I was buying anyway with $300 Woolworths points for the small bit of effort.

    Great deal!

    • Which store.
