the oculus 3 will be better

      • +1

more immersive for special movies, as if you are inside, amazing experience, similar to imax, and close to reality.

      • Is this a meme or is it actually worth waiting for 3?

  • Don't they have a 60 day trial period for the set, heard something about that for quest 1 but unsure if it's the same for quest 2 where if you use it and don't like it, you can return for a full refund

  • Do you still need a Facebook account for this to work?

    • +3

      Yes which sucks a lot.

  • Been keen to buy this for ages…. I'm very new to this
(last console was a ps2 20 years ago)am I right that I buy games only from the Oculus website, and do they ever go on sale or have discount codes? I'm buying this mainly to play The Room VR puzzle game.

    • +4

There is a single game on sale every day, but the quality varies - sometimes as low as 8% discount. You can see a list of past sales here - a bot posts them https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuestStore/

The good sales are often posted here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculus.com

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculiumvr.com have good deals too but a limited range of games

      • Brilliant - thanks!

        • +2

you can buy games off of steam aswell and use Steam VR to play them on the Oculus Quest 2. That is what I am planning to do. That way I can play Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Half Life Alyx, Microsoft Flight Sim 2020

          • @Lachlan1258: So is it cheaper to buy games from steam then oculus store? is table tennis in steam as well? I read on amazon 1 star review, have to buy special software to run pc games?

            • +1

@htc: This is only for PCVR games, but don't forget you'll need something decent to run them, and good WiFi if you want to play wirelessly.

              • @bamzero: I read amazon review that it is better to get the comfortable head strap and an extra battery to counter balance. Is that what you got as well or did you also get other extra assessories?

                • +1

@htc: Haven't tried it myself but counterbalance is supposed to be good. The only accessories I've got are the ones I mentioned here.

    • +1

For the mainstream titles yep. You can also set up Developer mode so you can load free and paid games from indie developers via Sidequest.

If you use a Canadian VPN can buy from Oculus store in CDN which is usually cheaper.

The Room VR is great, also check out I Expect You To Die and Time Stall as well, and might enjoy Red Matter too.

    • same boat as you, last game was on pc, only got interested in this because it shows a completely new experience compare to ps5, Nintendo etc.

  • +2

Thinking $399-$419 for black friday or boxing day fingers crossed, considering this is new RRP after all

    • +1

me too, I want to save at least $100

      • +1

It will be an awesome deal for $379. The 479 price tag repels me a bit. If there are some cashback plus gift card, that will potentially reduce it to may be $350 on Black Friday. Besides I will mainly use it to do exercise like playing sabre and table tennis and tennis if available, may be some shooting game to practise my aiming.

    • +1

Thanks, about to bite the bullet, you gave me a reason to wait, some said the new version will be years away but huge discount could be months away potentially. It will make a great Christmas present.

      • I doubt there will be a big discount on it anytime soon, but if its an xmas present no harm in waiting (unless stock runs out)

  • Does it support MacOS? Want to get one of these but I don't have a windows device

    • +1

Just did some research and found that it can't be used on a Mac

      • +2

yeah well obviously, because Macs are not for gaming, you neeeeeeed a PeeeeeCeeeee!!

    • +1

Doesn't need a PC or MAC, can be used stand-alone that is why it's so popular.

      • yeah but the awesome games are on PC.

  • -1

Does this work with ms flight simulator and Xbox series x?

    • +3

Android standalone or PC tethering only

    • +1

      Flight simulator yes (it's fantastic)
      Xbox no

  • +8

Can I use this for… uh, nevermind

  • If you get this, you MUST get 'The Thrill of the Fight'. It is cheap and great value and will get your arms and shoulders shredded in no time - in a surprisingly fun way!

  • +5

Had the quest 2 briefly but returned cause of the bugs. Disconnections mainly with wireless mode which I think have been fixed since with an update.

Half Life Alyx was amazing. There will not be a game better than this on VR until Valve make another one. The gold standard.

VR Porn…. Pretty Good. Pretty Pretty…. Pretty Good.

    • There's now a HL:Alyx City 17 scene on SideQuest that runs natively on Quest. Pretty amazing having it standalone, but as it's a Home environment you can't easily move around.

  • Besides Alyx, Superhot, Beatsaber, Cooking Simulator and Space Pirate what's worth playing? I have a Lenovo Explorer from a previous deal that I got for next to nothing and I would like to upgrade for no reason except wireless but I struggled to find any decent content last time I was using it.

Edit: Oh shit and the Creed boxing game, that one kicks my ass pretty hard.

    • Pistol Whip for sure! John Wick simulator to thumping beats

    • I find after the initial wow factor wears off the games are a bit lacklustre. I spend most of my time watching Netflix or Amazon Prime in Cinema mode. Love the big screen feel and the immersion.

Edit: Realised I didn't answer your question. I'm enjoying Lone Echo - got it as a freebie but damn it's decent

    • Vader Immortal series (very short though, but enjoyable). worth it if you do the dojo.
There is that walking dead series (saints and sinners)
I still play the occasional PC title.

    • +1

The Walking Dead:Saints and Sinners is one of the must play VR games like HL:Alyx. Others like Boneworks, Budget Cuts, Lone Echo, The Wizards, are some of the other more common known ones but as far as I know, many good games still need to be sideloaded as they aren't native to the Q2. This is why I went with a Rift S and my brother went with a Quest 2 and we swap them now and then as they are more different than one being corded.

He will borrow my Rift S when he wants to play a game unavailable on the Q2 or to play one of the big games as even when using LINK with the PC, it's a diminished experience. However, I'm glad I've had the option to use both of them as I know I easily made the best choice for myself despite being ridiculed for opting for the older corded Rift S at end of support for the same price as there is a pretty big trade off, but my brother has also found that as he always wants to borrow it and I'll end up with his Quest 2 watching movies in bed.

      • Agree they are more different than one being corded, the Quest 2 can be uncomfortable, and battery life is questionable.

As per the better experience, perhaps by default if you opt to use the cable then the Rift S may in some scenarios offer a better PC experience, (but you just go into the Oculus Debug Tool and remove the bandwidth cap), then the Quest 2 delivers higher resolution and higher refresh rates. (albeit only a minor visual improvements).

However probably most Quest 2 users will Opt for AirLink (avoid purchasing either official or good quality cable) and even with WiFi5 AirLink delivers outstanding performance.

That being said, if you take Saints and Sinners, the PC version has better resolution, I prefer the Quest version due to the responsiveness. (Heck with Cross play, they give you both, their games return policy is good. I have returned a few titles that I played and just was not for me.

    • H3VR, Hotdogs Horseshoes and Handgrenades

It gets updates pretty much every week (saturday) and there is a modding community behind the scenes.

  • Thanks, I returned my 64gb just within the Amazon returns window when I found out about the 128gb coming and had just started to miss playing it.
Really good unit, downside is the crappy headstrap and small\terrible fov.
Airlink is great but the convenience of not requiring a PC is brilliant.

  • Endless fun to play with. A Must-have for game lovers.

  • +3
  • Population One ftw

  • Anybody the situation with the Quest 2 regarding Facebook account requirement, as seen on the original Quest?
I don't have one and don't want one. It's one of the major things holding me back from upgrading from my first gen rift.

  • Does it require a facebook account to be used?

    • +1

Yes, unfortunately you need a fb account, it's basically how they are able to sell it relatively cheaply. Just open one with a valid email address/phone number, name and dob. Make all the settings you can private, all notifications off and then don't touch it again.

      • +2

Thanks for the info. Still going to pass up on this out of principle.

  • I still use the original HTC vive, is it worth buying this as an upgrade?

  • Love the quest 2. Bit disappointed I got 64 gb instead of 128 but don't really mind as mostly use it like a rift s with a cable so don't really use the storage.
Microsoft flight simulator in VR is next level when connected to the PC.
Also the oculus store is a lot more expensive if you don't need to install the games from there.
Can confirm the original foam was awful. They sent a replacement and it's much more comfortable however it is a lot warmer. Still a lot better.
By far one of my favourite things of recent times. When more games and content come out this will be the future.

  • Does anyone know if there is an easy way to convert your own videos to VR that are viewable with this device?
Have just started experimenting with a drone and would be awesome to be able to view them in VR and this would be a relatively cheap way to try it out if it's possible.

    • +1

Depends what you mean by "convert to vr"… Any video can be viewed in vr… But then there's 180, 360, 2d, 3d video and ultimately 3d modelling ie like being in a 3d game. Photogrammetry and 360 photos are fantastic ways to use a drone and view in vr. The dji mini 2 can do 360 photos, but you need pc based software for photogrammetry.

      • +1

Thank you - now to do a bit (a lot) more research. One more rabbit hole to disappear down.

        • Yeah, took a few months of research, but it's quite amazing what can be done. I modelled the interior of my house using photogrammetry and overlaid it onto the real interior so I could walk around the virtual interior 😂

          • @OzzyOzbourne: Looks like I bought the parts for my new PC just at the right time - new one is definitely more suitable than the existing one. The first delivery was this morning - just hanging out for the last few pieces to arrive.

  • +1

Wasn't really interested until I saw someone say VR Porn.

  • A high quality portable VR headset that can connect to the PC as well via cable and wirelessly… at the low cost of Facebook's continued machinations on global society for the next few decades to come.

    A true OzBargain.

  • Do you still need an FB account if you only want to use to connect to Steam and play PCVR games? Let's say you don't want to buy any Oculus Store games.
Is it that it need the FB account to just start the headset?

    • Yes you need a FB account to activate the Quest 2.

  • just bought a second hand for 400$….was needed in a hurry……plus usually this kinda thing takes long time……especially in Australia, i guess i was wrong this time.

any good website to buy accessories for it in Australia?

  • -1

Love the price but I'm holding out for a VR I can use with Steam as that's where I've been collecting my VR games.

    • +2

You can use with Steam :)

      • I've just being doing some reading and it sounds like we need to buy software from the Oculus store to use Steam?

        • +1

No, not at all. Only the games you want to play, via Steam. e.g. Pistol Whip uses Steam VR, but the Steam VR part of it is free.

        • +1

You can play PCVR via USB cable or wireless.

Up until recently if you wanted to play Steam titles wirelessly the best way to do it was with Virtual Desktop, which you needed to purchase from the Oculus store so maybe that's what you've been reading? However now you can do it with the built in Air Link so not necessary to purchase VD any more.

          • @bamzero: Virtual Desktop was the software I read about, articles mentioned it was required to play Steam titles but had quite a few bugs.

So if I purchase the Quest 2 then the Air Link will let me play Steam titles like Alien: Isolation, Elite Dangerous, X-Rebirth, etc? Is this a native support, does it include VR titles in GOG or Epic?

These days I mainly use GOG, only switch to Steam for certain titles (e.g. Humankind)

  • Placed the order. I hope it does not disappoint me!! tried the VR experience in PAX few years ago and it was impressive!

  • I’m considering this but it will probably be shared between a few people. How does that work with the user accounts - do you have to log in and out with different facebook accounts each time? Is the mask interchangeable for hygiene or selling it in the future?

Are there enough games to keep the interest up? I don’t want another dust collector lol.

What accessories would be considered essential? And I believe someone mentioned ordering it off the main oculus website, any idea how long shipping takes? Thanks!

    • I used my account for registering the device to and never change from that (can't really see how you would without "de-registering" it from your account - I guess would be as if you'd sold it, so don't think it would be worth it). Would you need to change accounts? It's not like I use Facebook inside the headset to post stuff - although you can share game videos, etc. which I assume would be posted on your FB account (I haven't done this - I just play games and simulators).

There are lots and lots of games - whether it becomes a dust collector really depends on what sort of thing you enjoy doing with it, I guess.

I have two silicone covers (simple to wash - as easy as washing your hands) which you can swap out in a few seconds - handy as it's pushing against your face all the time and you can get pretty sweaty. "Esimen VR Silicone Mask Pad & Face Cover for Oculus Quest 2 Face Cushion Sweatproof" https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08Q35VGGD

I also replaced the headband with the "Esimen Adjustable Head Elite Strap for Oculus Quest 2 Headband with Cushion Pad Strap" https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08LVX1YZ3. This has a screw-wheel at the back which makes it easy to adjust for each person who uses it, rather than have to adjust velcro straps.

I use the Xiaomi AX6000 router with it, which was really cheap through OzBargain (of course) - my desktop is plugged into the 2.5Gbps port as the PC has 2.5Gbps Ethernet and the Oculus is used in the same room as the router so it works really, really well.

I bought my Oculus 64GB through Amazon, so can't comment on buying directly from Oculus - can't see any benefit to doing that unless it's cheaper.

      HTH

    • +1

There is support for multi-user, up to 3 additional users.
Basically you set up the master account, then can add sub accounts (each requiring their own Facebook login).
You can share any apps you've purchased with them and they will have their own progress/save games etc. From memory they can have their own purchases and app installs however can't share purchases to the master account, so obviously best to always buy with main account.

The facial interface is removable, and now comes with a silicone cover which is easy to clean.

Accessories I'd recommend are knuckle straps, and a halo head strap (mentioned a couple in another comment)

If you buy Oculus through a referral both get $47 credit, normally I'd assume Amazon will be quicker but at the moment may not be the case depending where you are.

      • I didnt know that added Multi user support . Thats what prevented me getting one last year

      • Thanks that's great. I ordered through Oculus. Shipping is quite delayed for both Amazon and Oculus, but at the time Oculus showed quicker shipping which was incorrect.

  • After playing Pistol Whip for an hour or so, on the hardest settings, whenever I then close my eyes the game plays over in my head which is pretty weird and I've noticed that my space perception is a bit off (so when I open my eyes I'm not in the exact position I expected to be - not upside down or anything lol - just a bit left/right of what I would have expected). Obviously doesn't last for too long. Does anyone else get that?

  • Damn, deliveries are really delayed. Ordered mine when this was posted, and suprised even with Prime was due delivery for today. Just received a shipping note tonight, due now Thursday next week, via regular Auspost parcel. Those delivery delays around the networks are starting to really hit the past couple of weeks (not sure if related to Toll truck strikes today).

    • Count yourself lucky chompers. Mines been getting delivered on the 6th, has been on that date since i first ordered. :(

      • I ordered 26th with 3rd as a delivery date, got pushed out to the 6th, then had a notification that it was getting delivered yesterday … was playing with it last night …

  • Price has dropped to $473.76

  • Price back up to $479 :(

  • ordered via referral link through Occulus themselves - estimated delivery Sept 9th

  • Heads up to anybody who might try this (with all the recent purchases)

You can't send a referral link until you receive and activate your own Oculus - opposite of what the support chat advises.

I can get to the referral page and hit "send" but an error appears. Oculus chat said it is a network issue, browser issue etc and that you don't need the headset to send a referral. Until it was escalated and they said you need your headset first I thought it was possible, oh well!

  • Can anyone send me a referral link and how to use it?

  • Just planning for next week when my order is due. How does connecting Oculus up to Flight Simulator or other PC games work? I have a laptop I'd like to try it with, do I need any extra cables?

    • Works with airlink or a good quality USB 3 cable (c on at least one end).

Airlink uses your wifi so needs 5g to work best, and as little other wifi traffic as possible - laptop connected to router via ethernet is best, or maybe even laptop running a wifi hotspot for the Quest 2.

The overheads for compressing and then streaming the video to your Quest 2 mean that apart from the transfer bottleneck (wifi or cable) your gfx card and cpu will be working harder than with 'proper' PCVR like Rift.

All that said, I used my bog standard router supplied by my ISP and got 866mbps connection, and my 3070 did OK for MSFS at the same settings I was using for my Rift CV1.

I'd say try airlink and then decide if you need to buy a cable based on performance. Cable will be better in both video quality and reduced latency, with the advantage of keeping your Quest charged while you play. Makes sense for seated experiences.

  • +2

Note: if you order through Oculus store, it comes from Hong Kong with fedex. Mine, delivery to Sydney, ordered on the 24th Aug, was meant to arrive on the 31st, but is stuck at fedex Enfield station, where apparently there has been a Covid outbreak, so the depot is currently closed for disinfection….

    • Still waiting for mine. Order on the 24th of August.

  • I ordered from Amazon on 26/08. By checking the tracking number, I think it is stuck somewhere as well…..

  • Received my Oculus 5 days earlier than expected.

Definitely rate going through the oculus store + referral. Logged in to $47 in credits for games + fast delivery.

EDIT: Eleven Table Tennis was what I used the store credit on, wow! Better than I was expecting.

    • Eleven table tennis was on special on a 3rd party store a month or so back on ozbargain but I didnt have an Occulus back then and its now expired.

      • Worth the $30… Was an awesome first up experience.

Beat Saber next then maybe some SteamVR games.
