Digital Audio Workstation Software Group Buy: Buy 1 Product (US$49-US$499), Get 16+ Lesser-Valued Products Free @ IK Multimedia

120

IK Multimedia's 25th Anniversary Group Buy has reached the buy 1 get 9 free level. Depending on the number of purchases in the next 2 days, it could be extended for another month, which could see the number of free items go as far as 25 to 1 depending on the number of people that join.

You need to purchase before the group buy closes, but you'll have 30 days after the closing date to pick your freebies. There's a bunch of Frequently Asked Questions on the group buy page that are probably worth a quick read through.

I'm in at the $79 level currently, but I may make another purchase to double down on the number of freebies I'm eligible for, at another pricing tier.

The sweet spot seems to be to buy a $199 USD item because once you own one at that level you become eligible for crossgrades at that same price point, and you'll have access to 8 (or more) freebies at that same level.

Buying 200 Gear Credits on the website to spend in the Custom Shop (one of their apps that you can install for free) seems to be the cheapest way to get in at the $199 tier. There are various discounts that can be applied to get them cheaper than $199.

There's a lot of analysis at this thread with some great suggestions on how to get in at the cheapest price.

Also on that thread someone put together a Google Docs spreadsheet showing the various items available at different price points.

If you're OK spending $230 here's what I'd recommend for someone new to IK:

Sign up using a US forwarding address so that you get US$ instead of Euro pricing, buy Amplitude 5 for $199 USD with coupon code GROOVE3IKM (15% off) bringing it down to $169.15 USD, about $230 AUD and you could pick freebies of their bigger product collections - Mixbox, Sampletank 4, T-Racks, Lurssen, Hammond, SampleTron 2, Miroslav 2 CE, MODO Drum, MODO Bass for example. Pretty good bang for the buck I reckon.

It's probably worth noting that freebies are NFR (not for resale) and if you sell the original product eg Amplitude that got you the freebies, you'll lose access to the freebies. I consider that quite reasonable. IK Multimedia has been in this game longer than a lot of their competitors (25 years) and they need to stay in business to keep offering these products, so I don't have an issue with them setting reasonable limitations on massive giveaway offers like this.

      • I'm using Reaper. Is this still recommended? as in it'll probablly work with Reaper right?

        • What is Mixbox, Sampletank 4, T-Racks, Lurssen, Hammond, SampleTron 2, Miroslav 2 CE, MODO Drum, MODO Bass? different sounds? i know amplitude is a guitar simulutar. So are these just virtual instruments?

        • +1

Yep I have Reaper myself.. these plugins are all DAW-agnostic.

Mixbox is a virtual mix rack with an assortment of modules, EQ, compressors, delay, reverb etc.
Sampletank 4 is a comprehensive sample library
T-Racks is a set of individual mixing plugins (more fully featured versions of the stuff in Mixbox)
          Lurssen is a mastering console
          Hammond is an organ
SampleTron 2 is an emulation of tape-based sample instruments like the Mellotron and Chamberlin
Miroslav 2 CE is a cut down version of their orchestra instrument, Miroslav Philharmonic
MODO Drum is a modelled drum instrument
MODO Bass is a modelled bass guitar instrument

          • @myfragileego: i'm on windows 7 on reaper. will this work?

            • +2

@ilove: According to the specs pages of a few of the products above (T-Racks, SampleTank 4, Mixbox, Modo Bass), it seems they currently support Windows 7 64 bit.

That said, and I apologise if this is stating the obvious, but for security reasons alone you really might want to consider upgrading to a newer OS…

How have I not heard of this anywhere? It's been going for weeks and ends in 2 days. It needed more exposure and could easily have reached the 25 for 1 price point.

I already have Miroslav, Sampletron 2 and Sampletank 4. I would have gone nuts on this. Imagine buying MP2 and getting Sampletank 4 as one of several freebies…

IK has said if it reaches 10k participants by the end date they'll extend it another month, so it could still get to 25 for 1 yet

      • And that has now been reached, so this could turn into a pretty epic deal!

Sadly, I bought Total Studio 3 Max a few months ago, so this is pointless to me, pretty much, and it HURTS :-D

    • +1

Ahh I'm jealous. I really want TS 3 Max !!!!

There's been a few things released since Total Studio 3 Max. You probably got Comprexxor for free already, as they were offering it with TS 3 Max until the end of June. SampleTron 2 is also new, but it's a bit more exxy and probably not worth picking up in a group buy if you already have TS 3 Max!

The Cinekinetik and Electromagnetik Sampletank collections are new and not included in TS3 Max, and I have fallen in love with both electric pianos and mallet instruments recently, so I really want them both haha.

So I'm thinking of buying one of them and getting the other 7 free (the collections are not in the group buy, just the 8 individual instruments at 49 $/€ each) and that way I won't be thinking about the absence of them after I get TS 3 Max if it goes on sale on Black Friday.

      • Yeah, got comprexxor, and not using any synth stuff currently.

Having said that, it's weird the way they do bundles, with the Studio Max thing only including everything up to a certain date from months ago.

  • This has just hit the target to get it extended for another month.. buy one and get at least 10 free products of equal, or lesser value! :)

15 free with 15 days to go… on track for at least 20!

  • +1

Yeah it's on the cusp of going to 16 free at the moment. I'm already in with two purchases at the $80 and $100 USD marks, just trying to decide whether to go in at the $200 and a further $100 point or just the $200 using gear credits with discounts.

Initially I only jumped in to grab AmpliTube 5 and add-ons.

Purchased iLoud Micro Monitors last year so I had already qualified for the $200 crossgrade pricing with some Jam Points as a discount.

As the free products increased and the month extension kicked in, my strategy changed from AmpliTube collections to grabbing as many of the $200 to 100 packs.

So far have got MODO Bass, MODO Drums, MixBox, SampleTank 4, Syntronik, SampleTron 2… next is Hammond, Lurssem, Philharmonik 2CE, T-Racks 5 SE and 5 (gets 17 plugins for 2 credits), Sunset Sound, Comprexxor and maybe a few more depending on final bonus count.

Then buy in again at $100 (with Jam Points discount) to finish off as much of AmpliTube and T-RackS sets in the sub 100 range.

The only problem, being a guitarist (do have keyboards/midi in the house), I am now looking at how to make use of all those sounds - currently trialing Jam Origin Midi Guitar 2 which works surprisingly quite well as a software solution compared to midi type pickups.

  • 20 done, 1 more month extension to get to 25!

Tip to get in cheap at the 99.99 price tier - US VPN required
    AmpliTube SVX 2 currently 50% off at Guitar Center - US$49.99 ~A$70

I did the above, took almost 24 hours to get the serial number, authorised and unlocked freebies fine.
