italy seems to have selected the right species to grow regardless of origin, and they seem to have skill for picking at the right time and maybe the right climate …….
lots of foods have moved from country to country in the last , tomatoes, potatoes , chillies 500 years ago , and selected species refined by selection in the last 100 years ……
maybe it’s what wine buffs call terroir …
ever heard of San Marzano tomatoes? They are the 'real' Roma tomatoes. They come form Campania, near Naples. They are the real deal.
yes that's right, but hard to find here.
If you look for them you'll find them. Obviously canned, not fresh (I wish!).
Even Mutti has a line of canned S Marzano they import here (although VERY expensive).
Also Annalisa sells S Marzano, cheaper although definitely not as good as Mutti

Why does everyone think Italian tomatoes are better?
1. They never originated there (origin S. America)
2. Indians and Turkish produce more than Italy
3. Roma tomatoes are USA designed, not italian
