      • thanks worth upgrading from my iphone x to this?

        ecosystem is no concern

        • +1

You have waited this long, wait another few months for iPhone 13.

Typing this from my S21 that I bought in march 2021, upgraded from Huawei P9.

Mobile data can quickly make the phone warm. Camera is excellent, director's view is a unique feature that works very well(use back and front lens together to capture video).

Been using the S21 LED cover which you can customise icons and have it different for each app notification or each person.

OneUI is smooth and great customisation with Samsung Goodlock app.

          Samsung DEX is excellent too.

        • +1

iPhones are quite capable and last very very long and iPhone XS I reckon still has a few years of life, it may even outlive the S21 you purchase today ;)

          • @expatOz: thanks. Mine is Iphone X though. And I totally agree with you

  • +3

Got the same errors as everyone here with a new Telstra ID/account. The only way it worked was to add a plan. So really $674 total: $624 phone outright + $55 monthly plan (which I will cancel after a month).

I really hope this is a legit error due to some poor implementation of the online ordering system, but the pessimist in me can't help but feel that this is a known issue and Telstra are benefiting unethically from a number of people signing up to a plan just to get around the error. It's a nice grey area to play in and I wouldn't be surprised if the ACCC get a few complaints from this.

That being said, I'm happy to have paid $674 for a new phone seeing as I'm upgrading from my S7 lol. Wouldn't have paid full price for it though.

    • +1

Yeah this is really strange same for me…….

  • Did anyone actually purchase an Ultra? The price was disappointing imo.

    • +1

Agree. If you check the history on here the price was lower in June in the mid year sales I think. Samsung could afford to discount it by 50% just to move stock and also to stop people switching to iPhone as price is a major factor for most people I feel.

  • +4

    Something went wrong

We're unable to process your order at this time.

  • +1

Just ordered the 256gb 5G s21. It was a great use of my Telstra reward points as they have been accumulating a while and usually I don’t use that sort of thing for anything useful but this will be good.

    • How did you do this? When I checked this morning it was full price on Plus store.

      • +1

The discount is showing on the Plus Rewards Store now.

    • Wonder if one will get Telstra points for the outright purchase of the 256gb 5G s21 or any mobiles from Telstra day deals?

    • Yaa, best time to use that as there has not been much bargain there. The best value is only $80 boost starter pack, nothing else.

  • What is emulation performance like on these (Dolphin, etc)

    Is Dex useful?

What case and charger do users recommend?

    Thanks guys!

    • +1

I personally find dex very useful. I had it on my note 20 ultra a year ago and liked it. I got rid of the note 20 ultra due to its poor battery life.

      • +1

What do you use DeX for - sorry not had a Samsung since the S2! :D

        • +2

Viewing and sending my emails. Using YouTube. Viewing PDF. Web browsing. Everything I do on a pc. But the big plus is that I carry all my files and photos on the phone and I can connect to a monitor keyboard and mouse using a USB c hub at work and manage my affairs in my lunch break. Sure you can save files in the cloud but I have a lot of photos and I like the convenience. I don’t run anything like ms office on my pc at home so don’t need the power of a fast cpu. It’s more the convenience and also with the Samsung I can move files directly from the phone to my laptop using wireless. It is very seamless.

        • +1

Not that I have used Dex often but it's very capable having pretty much a PC in your pocket, very useful with a modern Samsung TV or any TV that supports wireless display

          • +1

@Italkdigital: Also great if you have a 27 inch monitor that you use for work from home. It can be used with the phone The phone does not support 4K output though.

            • @BargainBenno: Rocking a 32inch 4k PC monitor here my 4k 27inch PC monitor became my bedroom TV hooked up to my Fetch Mighty box that does 4k, yes Dex works great on my monitors but yes not at 4k, hopefully one day Samsung will have a mobile that outputs 4k even wirelessly

Edit: hopefully I'll get to use my high-end PC setup for something useful as I might have a new job next week working from home, surely will put Dex also too it's uses 👍😁

      • From my Note 4, Note 9 and currently my Note 10 (I still have plus my Note 8 I've sold) battery life have been very good on all my 3x mobiles and they all still hold charge greatly, all my phones are on a charger 24/7 and bought a 2 metre usb-c cable long ago when I use my Note 10 in bed so that's at 100% charge nearly most times (previously cable was used for my Note 9), also have a car charger so all phones don't cycle much up and down, even when I know I'm out for long hours at one place like school I'll carry a battery pack to keep my Note 10 charged at 100% all day

I'm assuming that's why the battery life on all my 3x phones are still great cause the batteries haven't been cycled much up and down from say 20% to 100%, I guess everyone's scenario is different when using/carrying around there phones

  • Tried to order one but they want me to come instore to show my ID in person :/

    • +4

it doesnt help, trust me. i just went in store, showed all the id. but they were out of stock and told me i had to call a number. called the number, but the guy had no idea how to help and told me to go instore to show ID…. F U Telstra!!!

      • It's crazy they want to see a ID. What for? Literally throwing away sales

        • +2

This is what they asked for

          1. Your driver's licence or passport (with your photograph & signature).
          2. Two other forms of ID, such as: Medicare card, bank card or birth certificate.
          3. Proof of address (your lease agreement or purchase of land contract).
  • Ended up getting a price match through Optus

    • Did they do it outright?

      Online chat or on phone?

      • +1

Outright, on chat. I am an existing customer already though. Not sure if that helps.

        • Will try chat as I am an Optus customer.

          • @GerrardLFC: Spent 1 hour with Optus chat being sent from sales to retentions and back to sales. In the end they would not offer it outright only if I took another plan

    • Was that on a plan or outright aswell??

      • Outright, on chat. I am an existing customer already though. Not sure if that helps.

        • Could you send me a recipt if that's not a problem? I can try to price match as well.

  • I bought s21 this morning. Now i got message saying its been dispatched via star track.

    • Was that a SMS message or message by email or both?

      • SMS

    • thank God it's star track and not TOLL

    • what time did you purchase this morning? I purchased at ~8am AEST and worried its not yet processed

  • grab black s21 256g two minutes ago thanks

    • You mean Phantom grey 👍😁 all phones are usually black on the front cause of black screen 👍🤣 Black close enough to grey 👍

  • Anyone been able to price match at Officeworks?

  • Can this be bought in person in a Telstra store?

    • Yes. You can also call the store and order over the phone.

  • +7

Process of purchasing a device from Amazon:
Step 1: Add to cart and checkout

Process of purchasing a device from Telstra:
    Step 1: Errors
Step 2: speak to chat three times with no resolution
Step 3: eventually just create a new account with another email
Step 4: have the website shit itself for an hour after the deal was meant to go live
Step 5: ship to wrong address despite having updated the delivery address during checkout
Step 6: another few hours on chat
Step 7: call star track and fix it yourself

At least I got the deal. Telstra could work on the usability of their online store if they want to survive.

    • +3

Customer service has never been Telstra's strong point.

      • +2

Won't call it service at all. It is more like self servce checkout even with customer support around

  • You need a Telstra ID
    I bought a S21 256 at 1 am without a plan
The phone has been posted, to be delivered tomorrow.

    • +1

Couldn't get ID verified after creating an account. Was able to add the phone to cart without selecting a plan.

  • Grey 256gb showing as 'Back-order' now on the ordering page .. https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/159813/91011/2021-09-0…

    • Been showing as back-order since early this morning.

      • Ah thanks sorry, didn't notice. I went to order but then realised I don't even have a Telstra ID! Doh!

  • YES I FINALLY DID IT!!!

Use your boost number to make a Telstra ID on desktop, if it fails, just wait until it gives you the option to refresh, then it should work after. Kinda dodgy but once you’re in the home page, the verification process should work saving you $55

    I use to respect Telstra

  • Telstra posted to wrong address. Can i update the address by calling Star track or its too late?

  • 5G Network
    3500 MHz (n78), 850MHz (n5)

Why is that different to Samsung AU specs

  • +2

I gave up with the $55 saving, tried for 3 hours (yes I'm serious), and it kept erroring every time.

I said f*** it and bought the phone for $679. I've easily saved $1000 in the last 3 years because of employee errors, so I'm ok.

Also rang JB, Optus, Officeworks to price match and they declined.

Good for the people who have purchased it without the plan.

  • Wow mine already posted, arrival 4th September, rocking S21 256gb here and tempting to order a second one 👍😁

    • So you bought the s21.. I am looking at this too but its specs don't match with Samsung au. Do you know if its a Telstra specific model?

      • +1

Telstra bought Samsung mobiles will be carrier specific in the sense software and security updates are through Telstra not directly through Samsung,.. saying that between my direct Samsung bought Note 9 and my direct Telstra bought Note 10 usually my updates are quicker through a carrier I.e Telstra (my Telstra Note 10) then my direct bought Samsung Phome my Note 9

Also high end carrier Samsung phones are never locked to the carrier only updates goes through carrier instead of directly through Samsung

        • Thx

        • So if I put a Optus Sim into this will I still get updates?

    • When did you place the order?

  • I couldn't pass through checkout, unable to change payment method to new credit card option.

  • 256GB: 127,500 points + $312 vs $672. What would you do?

    • That is a good deal. Rewards store did not have this option last night when I ordered.

  • I managed to put an order through for an S21 after trying for ages. I didn't receive any confirmation whatsoever via email. Does it take a while to get the confirmation?

    • Received mine right after I made my order, it could have been sent to junk mail.

      • hmm, nope not in junk mail… not good, i got no reference…hopefully it hasn't vanished my order as money has been taken out of my account :(

        • It probably has vanished as it happened to quite a few members here. Can't do much about that

        • Did you get an order number? Feed it through their order tracker https://www.ordertracker.telstra.com.au

          • +1

@Rapt0r: Got no email. Downloaded the my telstra app and logged in with my account and found the order in there. Pending back order.

  • just walked in with my friend whos with telstra prepaid and bought 2 of these outright, no offense to anyone whos in lockdown.

  • Do you guys think we'll get an Aussie stock S21 for this price by Christmas?

    • +1

      highly doubt it

    • +1

nope thats why i order today

      • damn that sucks coz i'm not a telstra customer anymore :(

        • Possibly could be something for black friday end of November, but otherwise even with the $55 plan for one month it's a good deal

        • just create an ID and add the phone to cart without selecting a plan. select outright and you should be able to buy.

Note: ID verification might take a lot of tries.

          • +1

@yummycoot: Creating an ID requires a Telstra Account Number / Telstra Phone Number or Telstra Landline - I tried my Coles mobile but no dice

        • When you go on site to purchase S21 outright your not signed in to your Telstra account and after adding S21 to cart etc there will be an option to sign up for a Telstra account

So basically you don't need to be a Telstra customer to purchase this S21 phone outright on no plans

          • +1

@Italkdigital: even after that, it still requires a Telstra account number/phone number

            • @yummycoot: My parents have a telstra landline and internet plan that i pay for. They don't have a telstra id.

I just tried and it's asking for me to create a telstra id.

Reckon this will work if I add my details on their plan?

            • @yummycoot: Ok I have a Telstra account so I guess one needs to buy a $2 Telstra sim starter pack to set a up a Telstra account first

Don't know what other easier options there are to become a Telstra customer

Edit: my Telstra account has 2x prepaid plans attached to it so not sure if my Telstra account will expire when ever I'll remove both my Telstra prepaid plans from it

              • @Italkdigital: try creating the ID and get the driver's license or passport verified then add the phone to the cart.

even though it says you need to select a plan, you select outright then press next to add the item to the cart.

                https://streamable.com/z67lst

                • +1

@yummycoot: I've already bought one outright with no plans, I might go for a second one tonight, yeah helping out someone above 👍😁

                  • @Italkdigital: did you already have a verified telstra ID? I am trying to buy one for father's day but its not happening.

                    @bisaya

          • +1

@Italkdigital: If you create an account, you will need to add the plan on

  • @lukehopewell: - Who do I need to engage to correct my order within Telstra because the address system when purchasing the phone had the wrong address and I corrected it now no one wants to help me change it and its a joke no one is willing to help me and wasted my whole day.

    • +3

They won't be able to do it for you due to system limitation. Had same issue and they said wait for the sms and change it with Star Track. It is a clusterf***, great deal but this is just the worst implementation in a while.

They also offered to cancel the order but with many on back order they can't guarantee we can get it again.

      • It’s annoying i spoke to StarTrack and they told me different stories , one person it will go back to warehouse and one person told me it will go to your local post office , not sure what’s right lol

        • Just had the same convo myself, this is terrible.

Telstra really messed up this time.

        • Yes Startrack told me that they cant add unit number to my package and that it will be returned to Telstra. very frustrating

  • +1

Priced matched with JB. Off to pick up 2 now.

    • What store?
