Look up some Amazon reviews, before you buy. Overall they state that this product is degrading very quickly. “The product is degrading at an incredible speed! I used it only for dishes and at the end of the 3rd day the scraper part of the sponge is wired and small bits come off with each use…”

    • +4

have you tried yet? its the best.

      • +4

Yes, I can confirm it is degrading very quickly!

    • +3

Have been using this product for months and have never had an issue like that.

      • just buy the scrub daddy, which doesn't have the sponge. That being said our scrub mummy lasted 6 months with the sponge part lasting around 4.

    • I wonder if it releases microplastics and is harmful to the environment? Seems wasteful if you need to keep buying it.

Edit: on closer inspection, it's just a sponge, which do degrade.

    • I agree. I was very disappointed with them too. I wouldn't waste my money buying them again

  • +9

I use scrub daddy regularly with cleaning pretty much everything. This thing works great.

    • +3

had to reread a couple of times!

      • Lol. Why?
EDIT: I just realised grammar is out of whack.
"I use scrub daddy to clean pretty much anything". This is for all grammar nazis out there.

    • +13

Really? Image the trees and energy wasted in the amount of paper towel you must go through…

    • What would you use instead, for bulky items?

      • +1

        Bulky items?

        • Big pot or pan you can't fit in a dishwasher, as an example

            • @PainToad: Obvious troll is obvious. Paper towel is useless at scrubbing.

    • +8

Imagine how many germs must live in every cm of your skin, your clothes, your bedsheets, your everything.

      • My clothes and bedsheets aren’t used in food preparation.

        • +1

My point being: there are germs everywhere even inside of us right now. Get a petri dish and test your kitchen then. Better yet, check your toothbrush.

          • +2

@RobBoss: I'll go one step further. Australia is too clean. We need to expose ourselves to more germs. We get sick just by rinsing our mouth after brushing our teeth in Bali. Australia has very high level of allergies because our antibody got bored and start treating some harmless as bad guy. Train your antibody people!

    • +1

You know there is a thing called detergents and rinsing right… or if you are paranoid keep it soaked in a peroxide solution and take it out and rinse in water prior to use.

Also how you going to scrub with paper towels. Steel wool is far too abrasive for your dinner plates and nonstick pan, this is perfect.

You know there is a thing called detergents and rinsing right… or if you are paranoid keep it soaked in a peroxide solution and take it out and rinse in water prior to use.

Or I could just use a paper towel and not have to worry about any bits of food being left behind in the sponge and not risk getting sick.

Steel wool is far too abrasive for your dinner plates

        Dishwasher.

        nonstick pan, this is perfect.

Paper towel plus detergent cleans them perfectly fine.

        • +4

          not risk getting sick

I have literally never gotten sick from using a sponge, you're doing it wrong if you are.

          Dishwasher

for 2 or 3 plates? yeh naw, I just hand wash those.

Paper towel cleans them perfectly fine

You clearly haven't tried cooking thick glaized foods. Anything will clean fine if it is not burnt on. Why use a paper towel at all, why not just rinse with water and wipe with your hands…

      • +1

keep it soaked in a peroxide solution

wow that's hardcore! I dump boiling water over my sponge once a week lol

        • Put in microwave for 20 seconds. Hot as.

          • +1

@wetwork: Naw you are flawed, you have to think like a super paranoid person. You see heat doesn't always break down endotoxins, whereas peroxides oxidises the endotoxins produced by bacteria. So yeh peroxide wins.

            • @azukay: OMG!
Looks like I am not as freaky as I thought.

              • @wetwork: Need to up the ante girl. You aren't freaky enough if you aren't disinfecting everything every 2 minutes. Just don't try to eat anything laced with peroxide without washing it off or neutralising it. If you are somehow a billionaire wash your food with peroxide and eat it from a platinum bowl.

Platinum is a catalyst for peroxide turning it to water and oxygen.

                • @azukay: Hello - did you just assume my gender and mansplain to me?

        • Well, thats for the paranoid, I personally wouldn't do it.

    • Typical toad

    • You're an idiot.

  • +2

havent used the mommy variant but the daddy variant is ace. Picked up a stack at prime day , love it that much.

  • +2

This is just a scourer & sponge? Why would I pay $5 for this when you can pickup multipack for couple of dollars at the supermarket?

    • +6

Cause these are way better and last much longer

      • -3

        last much longer

The germs get even longer to breed in the sponge.

        • It's true. You can disinfect, but I don't think it is worth doing. Its fine for things that doesn't involve food.

          • +1

@zealmax: These really don't hold onto dirt and grease like other sponges do and they dry completely much quicker which would minimise bacteria build up. I can use the scrub daddy to clean my bacon grease filled cast iron without soap then just a few squeezes under hot water will get it clean again, do the same with a cheapo sponge and you wont ever get the grease out. I've been using my current scrub daddy for over a month and cant detect any smell from it.

I thought these were just a dumb tik-tok trend until I got to try one, now I'm a convert.

        • What the hell are Germs anyway? Sound like you've been watching late night TV too much. Put some boiling water on it next time the kettle is on if the invisible bacteria in your kitchen sponge is keeping you up at night

        • Isn't your dishwasher warming up to clean out germs? These are dishwasher friendly, chuck them in.

      • My dish sponges last months. Once in a while just boil it on stove top with soap powder and it's all new again

        • How much are you saving by boiling vs buying new?

          • +1

@AnonyL: Erm it's really not that hard to boil it lol, if the sponge isn't torn but just gunky it takes 10 minutes. I like the scotch Brite ones it last longer than the $1 ones. I don't like new new sponges coz it's too stiff.

            • @MeesusEff: To each their own, glad you have a system that works for you

  • -1

    Uh, no thanks.

  • +1

This is the normal price they are at Coles/Woolworths. Why is this a bargain?

    • -3

      its $4.50 on S&S

      • -1

50c off a sponge isn't worthy of a bargain post. You can also get a 3 pack off other websites for $20.

        • +24

          Please handover your ozbargain license.

        • +8

          Eh $20/3 is more than $4.50 each….

        • lol , what about your time and fuel to drive to woolies/coles

  • +2

If they can’t even localise ‘mommy’ for the Australian market ima pass

    • +2

New packaging would be more expensive, this is not the Oz bargain way

    • +1

Imagine giving a fck about something like that…

  • +1

    the tiktok fav

  • -4

This product is sexist. Where is the non binary variant

    • +6

      Woolworths.

  • +1

camel cubed says its been free fiddy

  • +1

Australia had enough scrub daddy's before this sponge 😂

  • +1

    Subscribe and Save gone.

Scrub daddy easily the best kitchen sponge I've used, didn't really expect much, well worth it imo

I wonder if the mommy version is any better?

  • +10

This is always $5 at Coles, not sure why this would be a bargain

    • +1

Not even sold at coles or Woolworths in my area

    • +8

Not sure why I’m being downvoted.

Anyway Howard’s Storage World have these on sale for $3.48 at the moment (Scrub Daddy variant only) for those interested.

      • Not in stock online, and Sydney stores I believe are all closed at the moment

        • +1

Stock still showing for me - looks like there are multiple listings. The “lemon fresh scrub daddy” can still be added to the cart.

From my experience it’s the same product just a different name.

          • +1

@padfoot07: Fair enough for the lemon version, but then you've got $9.95 for shipping… What's the free shipping threshold?

  • +2

I don't really rate it for dishes, when I have really hard baked on stuff I use hot water, but it makes the sponge soft which seems counterproductive

  • I like that it makes doing the dishes cuter
    It's also $5 at Coles

  • +2

    SpongeHub

  • +6

    She said I wasn't sponge-worthy. Wouldn't waste a sponge on me.

    • I'll take the whole case

  • +1

My cat ate my scub daddy

  • +1

    They misspelt Mummy

  • +2

Scrub Mommy and Daddy are also available at Coles Blacktown NSW for $5 each

  • +3

Not a bargain for everyone. $5 is the usual price at Coles. It was on special at Coles for $3.50 a couple of weeks ago and regularly goes on special. Bonus is that you don't have to support Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

    • I hear ya. My wife loves them but I genuinely think the cheap $0.99 (for a pack of Aldi sponges) are way better quality.
