Funny enough, I’ve sent friends an unexpected letters during the whole lockdowns both last year and this year. Whether it’s for banter between friends or just a catch up, it feels different but fun through a postcard/letter.

Would 100% recommend people try this and send a letter to a friend or family. Give it ago.

I’ve sent friends an unexpected letters during the whole lockdowns both last year and this year.

Did that coincide with the spike is unknown community covid transmissions at the time?

      • +2

I don't think the letter sending trend went viral

  • Wont the Aust Post delay in delivering them add to people's anxiety ?

    • Did you skip addition in maths class?

    • +2

please hold while your inquiry is being processed……………..

      • +1

has it moved in the queue yet, or shall I call back?

        • +1

Thank you for holding. I would like to thank you for your valued feedback. If you know of anyone going through anxiety or a tough time and would like to help them, please reach out to the relevant organisations that could help such as Beyond Blue. It's ok to not be ok.

I get that this is well-intentioned, but to be honest I would rather that Aust Post delivered the parcel sent to me by my family (from elsewhere in Aust) a few weeks ago. They went to a lot of trouble, and likely a lot of expense in postage for the 'service', but still waiting.
I thought that delivering the mail was the core business.

    • +1

Sorry to hear that mate. Have you raised the issue up with AusPost? Hopefully you'll get the item soon. Please let me know if I can help you track the item. Cheers.

      • I'm the (intended) recipient; I don't have any details.
I don't know if they have tracking information (does that incur additional costs?).

Maybe I am being unreasonable, but surely delivering the mail is the core business and should be the focus.

I have a few other examples where items have been insured, tracked, etc., and have simply disappeared. The insurance cover was nothing like the job income lost, or the reputational damage cost.

In my case, I just don't use Aust Post any more. No cards, letters, parcels (domestic or overseas), nothing.

        • That's totally fair mate. If it's a parcel, it will definitely have a tracking number.

Nah don't think you're unreasonable mate. Can totally understand your frustration. Things have happened to my parcels before and I totally can relate.

          That's a fair enough reaction.

I will pm you to see if I can help you locate the parcel from your family.

        • I agree. I've got a number of outstanding deliveries from Australia Post going back a couple of weeks that were supposed to be delivered by the end of last week. It would greatly improve my mental health if I knew when they would be delivered!

I'm aware of the challenges COVID has imposed, but the timing here would be better if you had delayed this to when AusPost has got on top of its delivery issues.

@UNO: I reckon the local sortation facility that services your area is swamped. I know the one that services my area is. I myself used to only send out maybe 3-4 bags of parcels but now am sending double the amount daily. Coming from a small lpo. Whereas, the big POs can easily have 30 bags filled with parcels daily. What I experience now is busier than Christmas before Covid. I feel for the people at the sorting facilities more. That being said, this should not affect parcel deliveries I reckon. Not sure how they process parcels vs letters but I have a feeling they are different.

          @GG57 @UNO
          1. Parcels and letters go through different systems. Letters get delivered by posties on bikes. Parcels get delivered by the couriers in the vans. Letters dont affect your parcel delivery.

          1. Beyond Blue helps people with mental health issues and suicide prevention. This sounds like a great initiative to possibly help address the spike in suicides with lockdowns, restrictions etc by reaching out to people in a meaningful way. A postcard might seem insignificant to you but could mean a lot to someone else.

If you have a hard time waiting for your new toys in the mail, sent by your family; imagine dealing with metal struggles with no-one reaching out and nothing on it's way for you at all.

If you have a better idea on how to address mental health we're all ears. Or maybe we'll just let them know to cancel all this because GG57 wants his oompa loompa and he wants it now

@Villainous: I acknowledged that this is obviously well-intentioned. Maybe they will get delivered, maybe they won't.

There has been a lot of commentary over the past 18 months about a spike in suicides, but I understand that the data does not support these statements. Don't get me wrong; one is too many. And I lost a friend a couple of decades ago, knowing later that I hadn't take his call that night. That eats me up.

I try to do my best; I am in contact (phone, socials, over the fence conversations) with as many people that I know as often as possible. I talk to strangers, and listen when they tell me stuff. I buy a coffee for, and have a chat with, a homeless person that I see regularly.

None of that changes the fact that Aust Post is not coping with their core business deliverables.

            • -2

@GG57: This is not a deal about parcels. As mentioned, letters do not affect parcels. Your point is irrelevant.

If you want to be angry about your late parcel then raise your concerns with the goverment. They are imposing lockdowns and restrictions, not Auspost.

Turning a post about mental health into a whinge fest about your late parcel. How self-absorbed does one get?

          • +2

@Villainous: The one or two vans in my area do some parcels but our postie has to reload the bike three times a day because of all the parcels she gets.

Australia post has really gone downhill the last couple of years.

This is a great idea but they can’t even deliver parcels correctly anymore.

  • +1

How do you actually get this/these postcards???

Where is form to order one?

    I can't see anything.

    • +1

Yeah, I had to read it a few times to glean that they might show up in your own mailbox and then you can send them out again for free.

    • you can get this from your local Post Office. Each PO should have received their supply of the postcards.

  • +1

I thought I would never say it but the Aust Post insurance is a bargain for expensive parcels with the amount of lost parcels that are happening lately .
Maybe they should have never got rid of Watch Woman with the way they are deteriorating .

  • +2

Maybe they should stop doing these postcard stuff and actually do their job and deliver parcels and letters on time….
